1 66 Voluntary Benefits Learn How to Give Your Employees the Benefits They Want Without Any Cost to Your Business With the cost of health coverage going up every year most business owners cannot afford to provide their employees with additional benefits [like] dental or vision care / life insurance / disability income / critical illness / long term care / [or] retirement savings. But these benefits are very important to people. [in fact] More than half of American workers say they would quit their job for one with better benefits even if the salary was as much as 10% lower. [and] Those employees who DO have better benefits say they would not leave their job for one without those benefits.
2 [what's more] When people don't get these benefits through their employment most don't get them at all. And that puts them at risk for serious financial consequences. [for example] Aaron is the owner of a software development company in Seattle, Washington. He provides medical and hospitalization insurance for all of his 28 employees but no other benefits. So when one of his employees was permanently crippled in a car accident she had no disability insurance coverage. And because she could no longer make her mortgage payments the bank foreclosed on her home. And when another employee died of pancreatic cancer he left his family with only $50,000
3 of life insurance coverage. The family used up almost all the money in the first year and without more life insurance they had no choice but to move in with relatives. Aaron's employees worry that what happened to their coworkers could happen to them as well. Consequently, Aaron later lost both his sales manager and his best developer to another company offering a better benefits package. So how can you provide your people with the benefits they need and want? without a budget to pay for them? By offering a voluntary benefits package from which each employee can select only what they want and pay for out of their own wages through Payroll Deduction.
4 According to a recent survey conducted by the UNUM corporation providing employees with voluntary benefits increases job satisfaction by 58%. [and] 67% of respondents agree that payroll deduction benefits improve their work effort too. Why? / Because employees know they need those benefits and they are willing to pay for them. Especially through payroll deduction which makes it easy and convenient. They also like choosing from a full array of benefits and meeting with a benefits specialist at work to advise them and help them select the right benefits for their particular needs. [for example] Janine and Brandon are the principal partners in a Houston law firm.
5 They pay 100% of the health insurance coverage for all 22 employees and their dependents. But the cost has risen an average of 11% each year. [consequently] They cannot afford to provide any more benefits even though they would like to. So Janine and Brandon decided to offer their employees a full complement of benefits through payroll deduction (including) dental and vision coverage [both] short term and long term disability protection critical illness / long term care / [and] life insurance / [as well as] retirement savings accounts. All 22 employees have chosen to purchase at least one additional benefit and 19 have selected several. 15 are also funding Individual Retirement Accounts through payroll deduction. [what's more] A recent survey of their employees has shown that they all consider their payroll deduction benefits to be a valuable component of their compensation package even though their employer does not pay for those benefits.
6 [so] Ask yourself this... with one out of every two American workers willing to quit their job for one with better benefits does it make good sense to deprive your employees of the benefits they want? Especially if they are willing to pay for them? [and] Knowing that voluntary benefits increase job satisfaction by 58% [and] that 67% of respondents agree that payroll deduction benefits improve their work effort does it not make better sense to provide your people with convenient and affordable access to the financial security provisions they want? without any expense to your business?
