2 Jam-Sport Fiesta Championship 02 Snetterton 300 The one thing guaranteed to get people talking in this country is the weather! It always confounds the forecasters and makes tyre choices somewhat of a gamble. This weekend would be the same, but on Sunday the predicted downpours were absent as a few spots visited North Norfolk instead. A good entry of cars and more class D drivers entered. This is good news and the cars being built will surely see a near dozen out at some points during the year. The Zetec S which has cages fitted by Sonny Howard and his SHP Company are both strong and has the benefit of being sanctioned as junior cars of the future by the MSA. The new kid on the track Ed Cockill sure impresses and is a quick driver in the Zetec S. Simon Roud came out in the Daniels Motorsport built and prepared silver Zetec S and was charmed by the performance. The A class cars continue to fill spaces on the grid with this time a slimmer entry from the B class cars. Probably the best Fiesta race car for cornering, the Zetec 1400 only lacked a little more punch when Ford introduced it as a replacement for the Fiesta Si (A class car). As always, the Fiesta ST continues to be a good full grid and the drivers, both new and old were now looking about to see who the likely contenders for the honours in 2014 will be. 3 early favourites were on form but a problem for the Dan Holland ST saw him record a Race 2 dnf. The new points system seems to have gained favour as the table now reflects more points for the competitors. For the complete set of race results timings including practice Race reports and photographs by Ford Racing UK. A round three dozen Fiestas entered the weekend s event here at Snetterton. The paddock plan again did not reflect the amount of Fiestas and the space they required, but, as always we got on with it. I will be paying particular attention to parking at Anglesey but the amount of competitors will not be as high and the paddock is large. Garages will be given to Formula Ford. The rest of us will be placed in the ample tarmac paddock which has significant electric hook-ups and decent showers etc. Class A B D Race 1 A cracking race from the off and the sight of all the classes mixing it with older cars giving the new Zetec S cars a run was brilliant. I missed the incident which saw Dave Abbott slip to the back but did see the D car of Ed Cockill which had a determined Al Daly behind. James Appleby was locked in combat with Daly but as the laps went on Cockill opened a larger gap. In A, the Dendy-Sadler s (Peter and son Lee were fending off Ian Scruton in the opening laps, whilst in B Keith Chapman showed his old sparkle by leading Mike Hooper for a while until he slipped off and then found himself stone last. The race would go over 8 laps which still gave a minimum of 20 minutes of racing. The scintillating driving of Jack Williams is quite a revelation this year as he occupied 2 nd overall for much of the race. At the chequered flag Ed Cockill headed the field and the class D runners. 2 nd overall and 1 st in class A was Jack Williams and top B runner was Mike Hooper but now 2 nd in class and a fine recovery drive was Keith Chapman from John Bateman. 4 Class A B D Race 2 4 P a g e w w w. f o r d r a c i n g. e u This was another fine race with all drivers giving their all. The racing was amazing to watch and there were quite a few spectators braving the chilly winds. The feeling of Deja-vu took off as Ed Cockill showed the front runners a clean pair of heels. This time Jack Williams was able to maintain his second spot. Indeed by the fifth lap the gap between them was just a smidgeon under eight seconds. The B runners were headed by Mike Hooper who had the luxury of a Si pair of cushions as Lee Dendy-Sadler and Nick Tiley were cut outs almost for the following B cars of John Bateman and Keith Chapman. Dave Abbott made better progress this race and in the early laps was a good fourth then laps later 3 rd overall. James Appleby seemed a little off pace as he locked up behind Daly and Abbott before watching Abbott take the Daly 3 rd and then he too did the same to take fourth on lap 4. The conditions were obviously better suited now as a full 9 laps were to be completed. AT the chequered flag Ed Cockill won by a margin of 13 seconds from Jack Williams (A) and Dave Abbott (D). James Appleby held on to his 4 th spot and led 5 th placed Al Daly home. Simon Roud was getting to grips with his Zetec S and recorded a good 6 th. Class B was won by Mike Hooper from Keith Chapman and John Bateman.

5 Class C Race 1 The big grid of STs looked superb as they lined up on the track for the first of the two races. From the start the field got away as one, but it wasn t long before yellow flags were shown at Riches, but onwards then until the action was stopped with cars off, the Safety Car deployed but to no avail, and the situation would not be resolved, and so Red Flags prematurely ended the race. A wait until the race was restarted. The re-start would see 6 laps ahead of the near three mile track, but without Nik Barton and Ronaldus De Bresser. The first lap went off and David Ellesley led Dan Holland and David Grady from Charles Ladell, Joe Ferguson, Nathan Lawley, James Ross, Andy Mollison, Andrew Taylor and then rounding out the top ten, the long distance traveller from Scotland Scott Robertson. Over the next few laps Grady made it to 2 nd and Ladell made it to 3 rd. These three plus Holland edged away from the rest of the chasing pack led by Ferguson. On the penultimate lap and looking down the order it was pleasing to see WDE run Rory Green up to 11 th from his first lap 14 th. The 6 th and last lap came and the chequered flag waved home a good win from David Ellesley with David Grady just of a second in 2 nd. 3 rd A measured and mature drive from the young Charles Ladell. 5 P a g e w w w. f o r d r a c i n g. e u

6 Class C Race 2 The last race for the Fiestas and it would fall to Fiesta STs to leave a lasting impression of good racing! A full 9 laps ahead this time and 22 runners started but we were to lose 5 by the end. The lights off and away this packed field went. The Ellesley onslaught prevailed as he took an early lead but was again hotly pursued by Grady and the in-form Ladell. Lawley was joined in the fray by Rory Collingbourne who now looked at home in the senior field, as did Sam Priest in his memorable green ST; a bright eye catching colour. This colour alone was not a lucky omen on this occasion as on lap 3 he was down from 7 th to 13 th. Having mentioned Green in race 1, I watched him improve from 8 th on lap 1 to 6 th by lap 3. Equally this season, Lawley is looking more fired up and was pedalling well and hovering just off the podium places. From laps 6 9 the front pairing of Ellesley and Grady looked virtually as one with Ladell poised to take up any advantage of any slips ahead. There were no slips and the chequered flag waved home another good win for David Ellesley from the Dannoff liveried ST piloted by David Grady. Another very good 3 rd was Charles Ladell. A mention to 4 th 7 th in Nathan Lawley, Andrew Taylor, Rory Green and Scott Robertson as they came home separated by the merest gaps. Good clean racing so well done to those gentlemen.
