5 Legislative Task Force on Career Education Opportunities Purpose is to identify strategies for how education that supports career readiness, including but not limited to career and technical education, may be better integrated into secondary education opportunities for all students.

7 Common Core State Standards Math and English, Language Arts Resources located on OSPI website Any CTE Frameworks submitted after January 31, 2013 need to be aligned to Common Core CTE staff need to participate in district and regional CCSS initiatives and trainings

8 Next Generation Science Standards Collaborative, state-led process arranged in a coherent manner across all disciplines and grades to provide students an internationally benchmarked science education. Completed standards were released on April 9, Washington State adoption of standards not completed at this time.

14 EDS Course Submissions Locally developed leadership plans must: Describe the activities/projects that enhance or extend the learning beyond the classroom into the community. Identify and align the 21 st Century Skill standards which will be applied and developed Provide opportunities for students to participate in service learning activities related to the course. Allow students to participate in related leadership activities outside the classroom at the local, regional, state, and/or national level.

A.1 Use a wide range of idea creation techniques (such as brainstorming). 1. A.2 Create new and worthwhile ideas (both incremental and radical concepts). 1. A.3 Elaborate, refine, analyze and evaluate their own ideas in order to improve and maximize creative efforts. Example: Rube Goldberg project: students must brainstorm ideas to solve a problem. Solutions must be unorthodox and incorporate simple machines. Advisory committee members and/or community members select top solution.
