2 OUR EXECUTIVE COACHING SERVICES Transition coaching: We have identified challenges that frequently become evident as part of our successful executive search engagements. For many of these challenges, executive coaching has proven to be an effective solution. Executive coaching is increasingly employed by world-class organizations as a result of demonstrated success in increasing executive effectiveness, reducing transition time, and improving team/function cohesion. Some examples of challenges newly acquired executives face include: Need for a comprehensive 100 Day Plan to hit the ground running and effectively communicate, comprehend and satisfy senior leadership expectations of individual and organizational performance with specific milestones and appropriate metrics Need for clear expectations for the new executive s first year objectives, goals, targets, and metrics for success Insufficient knowledge and understanding of specific business strategy implications for the new executive Preparation for rapid assessment of existing team resources, deployment, structure, capabilities, performance, and potential, while learning the most effective means for communicating with and inspiring the team Desire for process to collect clear, honest, consistent feedback on interpersonal communication approaches in order to smooth any rough edges that stand in the way of effective executive performance Tim Garmager, senior partner, is an accomplished, certified executive coach with extensive experience at the highest levels of a wide array of successful organizations from global leaders to entrepreneurial start-ups. This service is offered to clients who wish to deal proactively with these challenges, to enhance the probability of success, and accelerate the speed to accomplish it. 3 OUR EXECUTIVE COACHING SERVICES Executive Coaching more broadly: Tim s executive coaching can entail several distinctly different roles, based on the primary purpose for the coaching: Coaching for skills (learning sharply focused on a person's current task, i.e. strategies, methods, behaviors, attitudes, and perspectives associated with success in business). Examples might be coaching an executive regarding behaviors that prevent his/her building followership, or coaching a successful physician recently appointed to lead a physician practice. Coaching for performance (learning focused more broadly any person s present job, typically where the executive feels the need to function more effectively or to address performance issues). Examples might be coaching a traditionally successful professional who has plateaued, or a manager who needs to better understand the difference between managing and leading. Coaching for development (learning focused on a person's future job, typically where the executive needs to prepare for a career move, or to strengthen leadership skills for higher levels in the organization, or to unlearn an overused strength). An example might be coaching a manager regarding self-awareness, or empathy, in preparation for an executive leadership role. Coaching for the executive s agenda (learning focused on the executive s agenda in the broadest sense, typically where the executive has a need for a confidant to offer insight, perspective, and constructive feedback; the coaching sessions evolve in response to the executive s agenda). Examples might be the need for a CEO to share his/her thoughts, ideas, or challenges with a trusted confidant, or a senior executive in need of a trusted advisor who can facilitate a teambuilding exercise. 3

4 TIM GARMAGER, PARTNER AND EXECUTIVE COACH Tim Garmager is a Partner with the firm and provides retained search consulting for executive positions in all industries with special emphasis on the professional services and healthcare industries. Tim is also a certified executive coach, highly regarded for his ability to help his clients perform at their best. He possesses more than 30 years as a management consultant and coach, and he was a Senior Partner at Deloitte, where he was the founding Partner of their human resources consulting practice. He owned his own executive coaching firm prior to joining Pierce. Tim's considerable executive leadership experience, and his proven ability to help his clients succeed as leaders, provides an added dimension to his abilities to identify and attract the best possible executive candidates as well as coach them during and after their transition. Tim's capabilities as a deeply experienced executive coach is a critical added resource to Pierce's portfolio of executive search services and reflects our commitment to the success of our search efforts. Tim is available to any of our successfully placed executives to coach them through their assimilation. Tim is also available to our clients more broadly to coach any of their executives in areas such as strategic growth, organizational change, behavioral change, teambuilding, problem-solving, or leadership transition. Tim has successfully coached his clients in each of these areas, and many more. Tim began his career at the Quaker Oats Company in Chicago. He has an A.B. in European History from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, where he was assistant to the Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences; a JD from Loyola University of Chicago, where he was a member of the Loyola Law Journal; and became a Certified Executive Coach at the Center for Executive Coaching. tgarmager@piercecp.com 4
