WAG Help Desk WAG Help Desk 2 Edition May 2010 Content: This document called Women s Artistic Gymnastics Help Desk has the intention to clarify and give examples of the different rules of the FIG WAG Code of Points. The goal of WTC is to reduce different interpretations of the rules, therefore provide a more objective work of the judges. Article Article 5 6 Article 6 12 Article 7 20 Article 8 31 Article 9 37 Article Article Appendixes A, B, C, D, E, F, G Note: New clarifications and updates of this document, will be added in green boxes. Following editions will highlight in green boxes only the new information with respect to the previous edition. Do not forget: Read WAG Code of Points and FIG Technical Regulations for complete reference of the rules. This Help Desk is not exhaustive and could be adjusted depending of future criterias.

ARTICLE 1. Regulations for gymnasts 1.1 Rights of the Gymnast With permission of the Superior Jury, she may repeat her entire exercise, if the exercise has been interrupted for reasons beyond her control or responsibility s of reasons beyond her control: -Apparatus breaks -Apparatus fell down -Lights turn out -Sound device breaks s of reasons considered as her responsibility: -Hand grips breaks -Bandages loosen -Start exercise without being called Warm-up In mixed-groups the warm-up time belongs personally to the gymnast. The order of warm up should be the same as the order of competition. UB, BB: Each gymnast decides to use all her time or less, but she will have only one chance to warm up. of warm up of mixed group on UB: OK Not permitted to warm-up in a second chance, even though she did not use all her time on first pass. Not permitted Following the warm-up period or during the competition pause, the apparatus may be prepared, but not used Competition pause. It is the time when the judges are calculating previous gymnast score. Preparation of apparatus before warm-up can start when gymnasts march in to the next apparatus. Page2 WAG Help Desk

1.3 Competition Rules for the Gymnast Work Plan. It is a document created by an Organizing Committee along with FIG. This document contents important information about: Organization Technical information (program, trainings, warm up and competition schedules, delegations, drawing of lots, forms to be submitted, meetings, ceremonies, scoring, venue information). This Work Plan includes Appendix with following forms to: -Submit new elements or vaults (see Appendix A) -Request to raise bar rails (see Appendix B) -Permission to remove start number (see Appendix C) -Submit competition order (see Appendix D) -Inquiry D-Score (see Appendix E) -Review of Time/Line deductions (see Appendix F), etc. Transportation Accommodation Medical information Media ARTICLE 2. Regulations for coaches 2.1 Rights and Responsibilities of Coaches -request a review of the Time and Line deductions This request may be verbal or submitted in writing to President of Superior Jury before the end of the rotation. 4 ARTICLE 3. WTC Functions 3.1 The President of the WTC (or Technical Delegate if there is not WTC President present) -In unusual or special circumstances may nominate a judge to the competition Any judge with category available at that moment at competition venue (if no more reserve judges and there is no other possibility). This judge may be at site because she was working as volunteer, watching as spectator, etc. s of cases: -When illness of a judge -Judge did not show up at competition -Etc. ARTICLE 4. Regulations for Judges, Structure, Composition and Functions of the Apparatus Juries 4.1 Regulations for the Judges -be in possession of and produce the Brevet and Judge s Log Book of the current valid Cycle It is important to submit all necessary documents to the FIG office, possess the valid sticker of the cycle and registration of the courses Judges are responsible to register their participations as Apparatus Supervisor, D-Panel, E-Panel or Assistants in official or registered competitions. It is important that each competition shows Sign of President of the Superior Jury. Page 4 WAG Help Desk

-attend podium training Purpose of podium training is to discuss or clarify criteria between D-Panel judges and Apparatus Supervisor. Also, judges and WTC can see new elements submitted and verify the request for raising UB rails. -attend Computer Score Entry instruction at time indicated in the Work plan At FIG competitions each E-Panel judge has a computer pad score entry and a phone. For BB and FX judges must enter deductions of Artistry and Execution separately. D2 judge has a computer pad score entry for D-Score. D-Panel has a computer where IRCOS program runs and a phone to communicate with Apparatus Supervisor. All Judges must act in a professional manner at all times and exemplify non partisan ethical behavior.* *NOTE: Refer to FIG Judges Rules (current Edition) Judges Evaluation will be made on all Competitions and each phase of competition will have different weighting. If judge has excellent and poor in the evaluation in different phases of competition, the judge will not receive a reward letter for the excellent evaluation in one phase of competition. After the Competition the D-Panel -Will submit a competition report as directed by the WTC President with the following information: forms listing violations, and questionable decisions with the number and name of the gymnast See appendix G WAG Help Desk Page 5

ARTICLE 5. Evaluation of the Exercises Recognition of DV of elements Principles Page 6 WAG Help Desk

Recognition of elements occurs in chronological order There are 3 principles to follow for recognition of elements: 1. When an element is devalued due to technical failure; in other words credited one DV lower and does not exist in the Table of elements. This happens mostly with elements on UB and some ringtype dance elements on BB and FX. In this case, if the element is performed again in the exercise it will then be considered as a repetition and no DV will be awarded. B C D C C D D C (Do not (Do not (Do not (Do not finish in hdst) finish in hdst) reach hdst)* reach hdst)* *Do not pass through vertical BB FX D E D C B A (Front leg (No over split, (Front leg below horizontal) legs at horizontal) below horizontal) 2. When an element is recognized as another element from the Table of elements due to technical failure. In this case, if the element is performed later in the exercise with correct technique, both elements will receive DV. They will be considered as 2 different elements in the Table. BB: FX: A C D E (do not hold free leg at (do not complete horizontal from beginning exactly 3/1 turns) to the end) 3. When no DV was credited due to technical failure. In this case, if the element is performed later in the exercise with correct technique, it will receive DV. Is not considered repetition since first time no DV was given. UB: BB: FX: X D X D X D (without grasp (do not land on (without landing with both hands) 1 or 2 feet) feet first) WAG Help Desk Page 7

Mounts (Art. 9.6, Art. 10.7) Elements performed as mounts can be performed in the exercise (or vice versa) but receive DV only once. C B A A D D D A This elements are under Group 1 (Mounts) on the Table of Elements. Nevertheless can receive DV since they are performed in the exercise and have not been used as Mounts. D A A A D D Is possible to count this element as Mount even though is not listed under Group 1 (Mounts), but if performed a second time (in the exercise) will not receive DV C C A C D D B C Both elements can receive DV since they are under different number in the Table of elements, therefore are considered different elements. 9 5.3.3 Composition Requirements (CR) 2.50 P. Only elements from the Table of elements may fulfill CR UB: (do not grasp) No DV, No CR (Flight element on same bar) BB: A No CR of Dance Series (1st element is not in the COP) One element may fulfill more than one CR; however, an element may not be repeated to fulfill another CR UB: Can fulfill CR#3 (one grip & close bar circle element) and CR#4 (non flight element with min. 360 turn) BB: Can fulfill CR#3 (One acro series, min. of 2 flight elements1 being salto) and CR#4 (acro element bwd) But BB: Elements can not be repeated to fulfill another CR (flic-flac in this B X C case), then no CR#3 But 1 st flic-flac and salto bwd step out can be used for CR# Connection Value (CV) -Elements used for CV do NOT necessarily have to be among the 8 counting DV. All elements must be from the Table of elements. A C C C A A D B D D D A Elements in blue count for DV, nevertheless, last A dance jump can be used for CV even if it was not among the 8 highest DV (máx 5 acro, min 3 dance). -Devalued Elements may be used for CV. D C Elements may not be repeated in another connection for CV. Recognition occurs in chronological order F B F X On BB, only the following B acro elements with hand support and flight can be performed a 2nd time in the exercise and/or dismount to receive CV, but only one time will receive DV. B C B (B) D 0.10 WAG Help Desk Page 9

-Elements on UB and acrobatic elements on BB and FX may be performed two times (2x) within one connection -The order of succession of elements within a connection can be freely chosen on BB, FX and UB (unless there is a special requirement for CV recognition) -With the direct connection of two or more elements, the second element may be usedthe first time as the last element of a connection and the second time as the first element to begin a new connection. The recognition of direct or indirect connections on FX should be to the benefit of the gymnast. Give either indirect A+A+E = 0.20 or indirect D+E = 0.20 Additional CV of direct A+E = 0.20 cannot be given. An element can be used only twice in 1 CV and the counting is in chronological order. Give indirect A+D+B=0.10 or direct D+B=0.10. Cannot use for both principles and we must choose in favor of gymnast. Page 10 WAG Help Desk

5.5 Short Exercise The calculation of DVs (dance/acro) and number of elements in the exercise should not be confused. Ex: 7 elements or more are performed (excluding DMT) the evaluation of exercise starts from Ex: 10 acro (including DMT) + 1 dance = count 6 elements for D score, but evaluation of E scores starts from P. Elements with no DV* should not be counted *Elements not from the Table of elements and/or elements repeated. DV: 1D, 3C, 1B, 1A (max. 5 acro, min. 3 dance) Total 6 elements for DV Elements to consider for Short Exercise: 7 (count all elements regardless the principle max. 5 acro, min 3 dance. 13 Insufficient exactness of tuck or pike position Ideal tuck position <90 hip angle and <90 knee angle 90 hip angle 0.10 Hip angle > Ideal pike position <90 hip angle 90 hip angle 0.10 Hip angle > Body alignment Good positions Piked Stretched Hollow Slightly arched Failure to maintain stretched body posture: 0.10 / WAG Help Desk Page 13

Deviation from straight direction (UB, BB, & FX): 0.10 Body alignment: Precision: 0.10 FX: Tuck jump with 2/1 turn (720 ) Front foot completed exactly: Consider 2/1 turn (B-) and for precision Salto backward stretched with 3/1 twist (1080 ) Did not complete turn exactly with 2 feet: Consider 2 ½ twists (D-) and for precision Page 14 WAG Help Desk

Throghout the entire exercise Insufficient amplitude: 0.10 / 0.30 We should observe amplitude of movement in the range of motion at different joints: shoulder, hips, knees, etc. Good amplitude on shoulders Good extension of hips and plantar flexion (high relevé) Insufficent amplitude throghout the entire exercise 0.10/0.30: Poor amplitud on shoulders and hips. Insufficient plantar flexion. Landing faults Too close to the apparatus (UB & BB): 0.10 / 0.30 Lack of balance: 0.10 / Slightly: Head at hip level or multiple slight movements: 0.30 All landings should be totally controlled (stick). Any step will be deducted and lunge position (from acro elements only) is also considered a step. In dance elements lack of balance deduction should be applied for finishing the element uncontrolled (not keeping the vertical axis of the body) WAG Help Desk Page 15

Extra steps, slight hop: 0.10 Very large step or jump: 0.30 Lunge: If gymnast shows lunge position on landing of acro elements on FX, the deduction of 0.10 or 0.30 (as for step) should be applied. There is no deduction for Lunge position after dance elements. Instead there may be deductions for Lack of balance after turns, jumps/hops/leaps of 0.10 or Body posture fault: 0.10 / Good position: -Head at hip level: Head at knee level: Deviation from ideal position: Hip at knee level and below but Not deep squat position: Page 16 WAG Help Desk

Brushing/touching apparatus, but not falling against apparatus: This deduction applies to all apparatus. s: VT Gymnast lands in deep squat and touches mat with leotard (not support): 0.50 for deep squat for brush (maximum 0.80 for landing deductions) + other deductions (distance, etc.). UB Gymnast lands, steps uncontrolled toward UB apparatus and brush an upright of the base or brush mat with hand (not support): 0.30 for brush + other deductions (maybe too close to apparatus, steps, etc.) BB Gymnast lands from front tuck salto on the beam but touch/brush the beam in front with hand (no support on beam or grasp beam): 0.30 for brush + other deductions (position on landing, step, etc.) FX Gymnast lands low from double pike salto backward and brush floor with hand (not support): 0.30 for brush + other deductions (position on landing, step, etc.) Deductions by D Panel Judges (D 1 & D 2 ) Take off outside the border markings on FX: No DV, No CV, No CR Salto backward with 2/1 twists, land outside border marking and follow with front tuck. Front tuck will not receive DV (take off outside) and this acro line will not be considered for CR#2 (acro line with 2 different saltos). Also 0.50 deduction for landing outside border marking from salto with 2/1 twists. Behavior of coach -Spotting assistance (help) on UB: 1.00, No DV, No CV, No CR -If spotting assistance on BB or FX: 1.00, No DV, No CV, No CR for unauthorized remaining of coach on the podium Deductions by D Panel Judges (D 1 & D 2 ) in consultation with Apparatus Supervisor Failure to properly use safety collar mat for round off entry vaults: Invalid VT 0.00 OK 0.00 P P. There is no deduction if safety collar mat is used for front entry vaults (Group 1, 2 and 3). May be also used on UB & BB WAG Help Desk Página 17

Placement of springboard on unpermitted surface: from Final Score For example: An extra board, on a table (harder surface), on 2nd 10 cm mat, etc. Addition, re-arrangement or removal of springs from springboard: from Final Score -Adjustable springboards are not longer valid. -At competitions on VT hard and soft springboards must be available. -Hard springboard is identified by a dot on the surface. -On UB and BB only soft springboards may be used. Moving the supplementary mat: from Final Score -Deduction is applied when moving the supplementary mat after exercise begins. Gymnast mounts on landing side, coach removes the springboard and then put the mat = Page 18 WAG Help Desk

Incorrect attire leotard, jewelry, bandage color Bandages must be beige colored Bandage or wrist band behind handgrips on UB and strap/velcro of UB handgrips can be of different color. Colored wrist supports are not allowed. Competing in the incorrect order This deduction will be applied on each apparatus where the error occurs. This deduction is only for teams, since start order of mixed groups is controlled by Secretary. Written Notification by TIME JUDGE to D-Panel Flagrant exceeding of touch warm-up time (after warning) Teams: from Team Total on the apparatus where the fault occurred Individuals: form Final Score on the apparatus where the fault occurred. Warm up on VT CI, CII, CIV & Juniors CIII The maximum warm up time is 50 sec. for each gymnast times the number of gymnasts in the group There is no limit for the number of warm-up attempts within the warm up time (teams or individual gymnasts). 3 gymnasts in a group: 3 x 50 sec = 2 min 30 sec warm up time A 0.30 deduction will be applied to individuals who flagrant exceed the warm up time. FX. If there is only one gymnast in the group the warm up time remains 3 minutes Clarification of a case: While judges are calculating a score, next gymnast mounts to the apparatus (ea: jumps from spring board to the beam). Gymnast receives 0.00 as exercise performed on red light. WAG Help Desk Page 19

ARTICLE 7. Technical Element Recognition Body Position Requirements TUCKED POSITION <(less than 90 hip and knee angle in salto & dance elements STRETCHED POSITION Must be mainteined a min. 3/4 of the salto PIKED POSITION <(less than 90 hip angle in salto & dance elements Stretched position Requirements stated in the article 7.1 is a guideline for ideal performance of the element. Nevertheless, recognition of body position in saltos and flight elements (UB) occurs when the body is in inverted position. UB dismounts & Vault: stretched body position must be maintained for a minimum of 360 BA rotation FX: In double saltos a stretched body position must be maintained in the 1st salto and min. 3/4 of the second salto. Landings from Single Saltos with twists Elements with twists must be completed exactly or the Lower DV will be recognized. Placement of front foot is decisive when awarding DV. If landing = If landing = If landing = for precision for precision If landing = If landing = for precision If landing = for precision Page 20 WAG Help Desk

Direct connections of saltos FX: When there is a salto with twist directly connected to another salto and in the first salto the turn is not completed exactly (but the gymnast is able to continue into the next element), the first element will NOT be devaluated. Not devaluated, if next salto begins rotation. If does not land on feet first, we can still give DV to even if twist was not completed. Must be completed exactly if is last salto. Specific element on BB Twists must be completed exactly or the Lower DV will be recognized. Placement of front hand on back handspring with 1/1 twist-swing down to cross sit, is decisive when awarding DV. Correct hand placement Award D- DV precision Award C- DV precision Award C- DV precision Correct hand placement Jumps, leaps, hops with turns If land on 2 feet the placement of front foot is decisive when awarding DV. award DV award DV, for precision award lower DV in the Code, for precision If landing on one foot the position of the hip and shoulders are decisive WAG Help Desk Page 21

BB & FX: Turns on one leg Degree of rotation is determined once the heel of the support leg drops (turn is considered finished) The turn is finished at 180 because the heel dropped. For turns on 1 leg requiring the free leg to be at specific position, the position must be maintained throughout the turn. Free leg is not maintained in specific position throughout the turn, therefore can not be considered If free leg is not in prescribed position credit another element from the COP 1/1 turn in this position is considered as A- element (free leg below horizontal), since free leg is not in prescribed position (horizontal). Requirements for selected dance elements Scales require 180 split, if less No DV and no deduction for insufficient split position Award A DV No DV If not held 2 : No DV Page 22 WAG Help Desk

Requirements for selected dance elements Split leap with leg change Requirement: free leg swing min. 45, 180 split of legs, swing leg must be stretched. Note: The 45 is in relation of vertical axis, not in relation of the other leg. Johnson leap If legs are above horizontal, but are not even deduct for Incorrect leg position If legs are at horizontal or below and are not even deduct for leg/s at or below horizontal and for Incorrect leg position. 27 Specific Dance Elements Principle: Due to technical failure some elements may be considered a different element or do not receive any DV at all from the Table of Elements. Nevertheless, in any case, E Panel must apply proper execution deductions considering intention of the gymnast when trying to perform the element. Attempted element Technical failure With <135 split Considered element Execution deduction E Panel deducts 0.30 for insufficient split position With >135 hip angle E Panel deducts 0.30 for one of both legs below horizontal With <135 split E Panel deducts 0.30 for insufficient split Swing leg is bent E Panel deducts 0.10 / 0.30 for bent leg When no ring shape, no arch and release of head E Panel deducts for insufficient arch position and/or insufficient closure of feet to head. May also deduct for open legs. Do not deduct for bent legs. When no arch and release of head Deduction for front leg below horizontal, insufficient arch position or foot of back leg to shoulder height. May also deduct for insufficient split. Do not deduct for bent leg. When no arch and release of head Deduction for front leg below horizontal, insufficient arch position or foot of back leg to shoulder height. May also deduct for insufficient split. Do not deduct for bent leg. When no arch and release of head Deduction for insufficient arch position or foot of back leg to shoulder height. May also deduct for insufficient split. Do not deduct for bent leg. Principle: Some elements require to swing a straight free leg at minimum 45 before change of leg. If leg swings less than 45 or leg is bent, a different element from the COP will be considered. WAG Help Desk Page 27

Principle: For recognition of different dance elements is important to differentiate between cross split and side split positions. Elements with cross split and side split are considered different. Cross split Side split Principle: Performing dance leap with developpé technique does not make an element different. Same element Principle: Elements with side split position and straddle pike position are considered the same elements but with different technique and deductions. Is important to differentiate these two techniques to apply correctly deductions on dance elements: Insufficient split (deduction for cross/side split positions - COP Art. 6) vs Position of legs (deduction for straddle pike position - COP Art. 7) Side split Straddle pike Switch leap with 1/2 or 1/1 turn must show a cross split position, otherwise the element will be considered a Johnson leap or Johnson leap with 1/4 turn and and are different elements because position of legs (diagonal or horizontal). are different elements. Diagonal or horizontal leg position for the following elements are acceptable, therefore, no deduction for incorrect leg position will be applied. Depending on the technique used for split leap with 1/1 turn turn element can be considered as: Tour Jeté for missing degrees of Page 28 WAG Help Desk

ARTICLE 8. Vault 8.1 General - The recommended run distance is 25 meters. However, the run distance may be individually set. It is permitted to run more than 25 meters but the length of runway will be only 25 m. 8.3 Requirements -Apparatus Finals The gymnast must perform two vaults, which will be averaged for the final score. -the two vaults must show a different Repulsion phase Provided that the gymnast performs 2 vaults with different Repulsion phase, it doesn t matter if the 2 vaults are from the same or different groups. s: & Same group & Different group Corridor Markings -There will be a marked corridor and a center line (5 cm) on the landing mat in the center of corridor. -Lines are part of the corridor area. -These lines will be used as orientation for deviation from straight direction Land outside the Corridor with both feet Land outside the Corridor line with one foot Land in the corridor but between center line and corridor line 0.00 Land in the middle of the center line or 1 foot on the center line and 1 on the side For directional deviation the VT Line judge should acknowledge the fault (0.10/0.30/0.50) by raising a red flag WAG Help Desk Page 31

8.4 Specific Apparatus Deductions (D Panel) -In the Qualification for the Apparatus Finals (provided gymnast registered for two vaults) and Apparatus Finals: When only one vault or the same vault is performed: Score of the 1st vault performed divided by 2 s: 1st vault 2nd vault Invalid: 0 -Touch on the springboard without execution of vault -Failure to land on feet first 0 -Do not attempt vault at all 1st vault Invalid: 0 -Touch on the springboard without execution of vault -Failure to land on feet first When the two vaults do not show a different Repulsion Phase s: 1st vault 2nd vault 1st vault 2nd vault 2nd vault 1st vault 2nd vault Final /2 = Final /2 = Final /2 = Final = Final = Method of Scoring If gymnast shows a different vault from the flashed number, D-Panel enters the value of the vault performed and shows on the board to the E judges the symbols to the vault recognized. 8.5 Specific Apparatus Deductions (E Panel) First Flight Phase -For missing degree of the LA turn: Group 3. It is permitted 1/4 to 1/2 turn in First Flight Phase If gymnast performs less than 1/4, then deduct 0.10 OK - No deduction Page 32 WAG Help Desk

First Flight Phase -For missing degree of the LA turn: Group 1 & 5 with 1/2 turns: If up to 45 is missing, deduct 0.10 If 46 to 90 is missing, deduct 0.30 OK - No deduction First Flight Phase -For missing degree of the LA turn: Group 1, 2 & 4 with 1/1 turns: If up to 45 is missing, deduct 0.10 If 46 to 90 is missing, deduct 0.30 If more than 90 is missing, deduct 0.50 OK - No deduction Repulsion Phase -Failure to pass through vertical: 0.10 / 0.30 Vertical from front view of the Table. 34 Second Flight Phase -Body position Tsukahara tucked Tsukahara piked If 135 and more knee angle Tsukahara tucked becomes Tsukahara piked with deduction for bent legs (-0.30 when knee angle 135 or when legs are almost straight) If No Hip angle, but knee bent Tsukahara Tucked becomes Tsukahara stretched with bent legs (0.10 or 0.30 or 0.50) If 90 hip angle and 90 knee angle deduct max for insufficient tuck position (no more than 0.10 deduction for both mistakes). If more than 90 hip angle and more than 90 knee angle deduct max for insufficient tuck position (no more than 0.30 deduction for both mistakes). Second Flight Phase -Height: 0.10 / 0.30 / 0.50 / 0.80 NO DEDUCTION Page 34 WAG Help Desk

Second Flight Phase -Height: 0.10 / 0.30 / 0.50 / WAG Help Desk Page 35

Second Flight Phase -Excessive flexion of hip joint (snap) to initiate salto stretched (bwd/fwd): 0.10 / 0.30 The execution of handspring forward on-piked salto forward off with greater than 180 turn is unrealistic from the standpoint of biomechanics. Therefore it makes sense to consider all vaults with progressive complexity (360, 540, etc.) as stretched salto forward off. The insufficient stretched body position in the second flight phase is considered as an execution fault and the E- Panel judges deduct in accordance with the Code of Points. Guideline for recognition of: Salto forward stretched with LA turn (see picture #1 and #2) Salto forward piked with LA turn (see picture #3) A snap (hollow or slightly piked body position) immediately following the repulsion is biomechanically acceptable, however, if the pike position is maintained past the vertical line (in the head up vertical position), the vault will be considered piked. Snap #1 #2 #3 Page 36 WAG Help Desk

ARTICLE 9. Uneven Bars 9.1 General - A second run approach for the mount is permitted, if the gymnast on her first attempt (balk) has not touched the springboard, the apparatus, or run underneath the apparatus. Run approach with touch of springboard or UB without mounting: nd unsuccessful attempt to mount: (even though gymnast did not touch springboard or apparatus) 1st attempt - No deduction 2nd unsuccessful attempt 1.00 Gymnast must begin the exercise and first element will not be considered as mount but as element within the exercise. 9.3 Composition Requirement (CR) - D-Panel 2.50 P - 1 Flight element on the same bar Element can not be used for CR of flight on the same bar. 39 - Empty swing = swing forward/backward without the execution of an element in the Table, before the swing reverses to the opposite direction. Except Shaposhnikova type elements. 3/4 Giant circle fwd or bwd Swing 1/2 turn below horizontal Back hip circle If an empty swing does not reach horizontal, apply 0.10 deduction - Intermediate swing = pump swing from a front support and/or a long swing not needed in order to perform the next element. -Deduction for intermediate swing in the same place is taken only once. -If a fall occurs all the swings necessary to start the exercise are not penalized, only for the fall. 9.5 Specific Apparatus Deductions (E-Panel) -Insufficient height of flight elements: 0.10 / 0.30 Hip position prior to grasp the bar Above HB 0.00 At HB 0.10 Below HB 0.30 No deduction Highest hip position after release the bar Above HB 0.00 At HB 0.10 Below HB 0.30 No deduction WAG Help Desk Page 39

-Amplitude of casts: 0.10 / 0.30 If in the attempt to cast to handstand, the gymnast splits the legs so that one leg hangs down, the lower leg determines the angle of the cast. -Under rotation of flight elements: 0.10 Rotation on BA should be completed to ensure next element can be performed with ideal swing at the beginning. In the case of dismounts, BA rotation should be enough to ensure a stable landing Poor rhythm in elements: 0.10 (Mt or in the exercise). Both kip techniques are acceptable (swing or hang). If the gymnast loses rhythm in hang before kip on HB - deduct Failure to extend hips in counter flight elements over high bar: 0.10 / 0.30 Extension of hips must be shown before counter movement WAG Help Desk Page 41

In stretched counter flight elements, the position must be maintained by the standing position above the bar. -Excessive flexion of hip joint in the leg tap (DMT): 0.10 / Bar change without performing an element: 0.30 No DV for repeated element, therefore deduction for bar change without performing element C B A A D D X X A B A A A B X A If performed with bent legs, No DV but no deduction for bent legs. If cast to stand on LB is performed only apply deduction for cast principle (no deductions for bent legs) Page 42 WAG Help Desk

9.6 Notes -With grasp of both hands (momentary hang or support) on the bar, the DV is awarded. If gymnast performs a flight element and grasps the bar with one hand (but does not fall), then she grasps the bar with the second hand and continues the routine: Reward DV for flight element. After a fall, judging resumes as soon as the gymnast performs the first element. No deductions are taken for the way the gymnast resumes to the bar. Fall A X A B Fall X A B Specific elements Not in the COP, if performed recognize it as., or as if gymnast moves just the hand without turning the body. Is considered same element as If does not reach handstand (within 10 ): -No DV will be credited (D-Panel) -No deductions for amplitude of casts (E-Panel) If does not reach handstand (within 10 ): -1 DV lower (swings principle) (D-Panel) -Deductions for angle of completion of swing elements (E-Panel) If the turn initiates after handstand, consider same element as (D-) If the turn initiates after handstand, consider same element as (C-) WAG Help Desk Page 43

Specific elements If the turn initiates before or after handstand, E value will be credited If the turn is not completed exactly, credit D- value and deduct 0.10 for precision If element is not finished within 10 before vertical, credit 1 DV lower only when gymnast is able to continue to the next element/glide kip. If element is not finished within 10 before vertical and after support on the LB gymnast falls, no DV will be credited. These elements with no turn must pass through vertical axis. If does not reach 10 before vertical axis and gymnast falls, no DV will be credited (cannot be considered as swings elements since no turn is performed). Note: (#4.301). Gymnast must be within 10 of vertical to receive C element. If she has not passed over the bar and has not come within 10 of vertical, but does establish support, consider as (#4.101) with no deduction for angle of completion of element. CLARIFICATION SPECIFIC ELEMENTS Flight elements from LB to HB. Consideration: The maximum DV for Flight Elements from LB to HB may not be more than E- Page 44 WAG Help Desk

ARTICLE 10. Balance Beam 10.1 General - A second run approach for the mount is permitted, if the gymnast on her first attempt (balk) has not touched the springboard, the apparatus, or run underneath the apparatus. Run approach with touch of springboard or BB without mounting: nd unsuccessful attempt to mount: (even though gymnast did not touch springboard or apparatus) 1st attempt - No deduction 2nd unsuccessful attempt 1.00 Gymnast must begin the exercise and first element will not be considered as mount but as element within the exercise, therefore deduction of 0.10 also will apply for mount not from the table of elements Content and Construction of the Exercise The maximum 8 highest difficulties including the dismount are counted for DV Maximum 5 Acro Minimum 3 Dance Is possible to count 7 Dance elements and 1 Acro. Dismount is always an acro element. Dance elements are elements from Group 2, Group 3 and some elements from Group 1 and 4 marked WAG Help Desk Page 45

10.4 Connection Value (CV) - D Panel 2 acro flight elements, excluding the dismount CV 0.10: C/D + D (or more) CV 0.20: C/D + D (or more) Rebounding effect 10.5 Artistry Deductions (E Panel) Guideline for application of deduction Sureness of performance: 0.10 / 0.30 Sureness of performance is confidence in technique and presentation, unwavering execution of the element. -Lack of balance 0.30/0.50 and falls may be used as one of guideline for Sureness deductions application Specific Apparatus Deductions (E Panel) Failure to meet technical requirement of the element through use of additional support: Support of forearm Page 46 WAG Help Desk

One sided use of elements: More than one 1/2 turn on 2 feet with straight legs throughout exercise: 0.10 for entire exercise No attempt to dismount: Slightly bent legs or squat position are not considered for this deduction. If salto for the dismount has not begun and a fall occurs, or no attempt for dismount at all, deduct 0.50 for No attempt to dismount Note: Since no DV was awarded for dismount, gymnast may attempt her dismount again and receive DV if performed successfully. In this case, no deduction for No attempt for dismount. If gymnast attempts to dismount but does not perform the element, deduct only 0.50 for No attempt to Dismount If gymnast attempt to dismount but does not perform the element, goes back, attempt again and does not perform the dismount, deduct 0.30 for Attempt without performing an element (Art. 6) for No attempt to Dismount. OK OK Specific Elements Principle: Additional 1/4 turn on dance leaps/hops/jumps does not make a different element No turn = 1/4 turn 1/2 turn = 3/4 turn 1/1 turn = 1 1/4 turn Principle: Jumps with 1/1 turn or more performed in side position will be awarded 1 DV higher than in cross position, but the DV will be awarded only once and in chronological order despite that is performed in side or cross position. Exception to this principle: (the DV remains the same in side or in cross position) C- in cross position D- in side position Note: Elements will be considered as in cross position if start from cross position and finish in side position or vice versa. No higher DV will be awarded. WAG Help Desk Page 47

Principle: Acro flight elements that require to hold in handstand for 2 will be devalued 1 DV if handstand is not maintained for 2. If does not show all body parts in alignment (Handstand) - reward no DV. C will be considered as B- C will be considered as B- Note: If performed a second time successfully during the exercise, DV will be credited only once and in chronological order. D will be considered as C- Does not require to hold in handstand for 2, but if does not arrive in handstand, no DV will be credited. Guideline to recognize: Salto backward piked: Salto backward stretched: Tempo: Gymnasts mainly perform Salto tempo on FX in order to gain speed. Therefore, on BB for the same purpose, Salto tempo may be performed as 2nd element in connection of min. three elements (including DMT connection). If performed as a single element or last element in connection, recognize as piked or stretched salto. Page 48 WAG Help Desk

CLARIFICATION SPECIFIC ELEMENTS Leap mount. Requirements for recognition of the element could be either to show arabesque on landing or to show leap with amplitude. In any case No deduction for insufficient split must be taken. In both cases A- value (#1.101) is awarded. Mounts (Group 1): Elements may be performed as a Mount or within the routine but will receive DV only once (chronological order). Following elements can be utilized: #1.107 second element #1.206 #1.108, #1.208, #1.308 #1.210, #1.310 #1.311 (from HSTD), #1.411 #1.312, #1.412 #1.213, #1.314, #1.414 WAG Help Desk Page 49

ARTICLE 11. Floor Exercise 11.1 General Music. (the voice may be used as an instrument without word/s) When voice is used on FX music, Federations in doubt may submit the music for WTC approval. If the voice is an imitation of the music or follows the melody, then the music may be used for FX Content and Construction of the Exercise Acro Line: An acro Line may consist of a min. of one flight element without hand support and take off from 2 feet (rebound) Single or double salto A mixed connection with salto take off 2 feet s A direct or indirect connection of saltos (at least one with take off 2 feet) Acro and mixed connection (one acro line) Even though stretched jump has no DV, it still may be considered as acro line Acro connection using 2 diagonals (one acro line) Do not constitute an Acro Line: Saltos with take off one foot Connection of elements without salto (take off 2 feet) Saltos with take off 2 feet from standing position Although are not considered Acro Line, these elements can fulfill CR. Página 50 WAG Help Desk

11.3 Composition Requirements (CR) (D-Panel) #1 Dance Passage An indirect dance passage can be used to fulfill CR requirement #1. : A X B #3-Salto forward/sideward and backward #4 Salto with double BA and salto with LA (min. 360 turn) One single element can fulfill different aspects of one or more requirements. -Salto bwd -Salto w/double BA -Salto w/la turn #5-Dismount With repetition of the same element: -Count only 7 elements and No CR #5. Failure to land feet first on last acro line: Count only 7 elements and No CR #5. If gymnast missed last acro line and just run backward, but has at least 2 acro lines: Credit dismout of last acro line performed. When 5 acro lines are performed: DMT OK D A C C D No DV NO DMT D A C C Incomplete turn= Same C element No DV DMT OK D A C C No acro line D WAG Help Desk Página 51

The dismount is the last counting acro line (credit highest DV) : Dismount D- s Dismount A- Dismount D Artistry Deductions (E-Panel) Artistry and Body Alignment clarification For mistakes of body alignment apply deductions for Body alignment through the entire exercise: 0-10/0.30. This deduction is in addition to Artistry deductions When you are thinking about artistry you need to consider also such things as body alignment. The shapes or positions, that a gymnast makes should be pleasing to the eye. The transitions between elements should flow easily and smoothly. The choreography must not only express the music, but enhance the performance. In the same way as a gymnast learns to perform an element with good technique, they must also spend training time on body alignment to improve the ease and fluency of movement throughout the choreography. Movement paths will then become automatic and the toes will be pointed, back straight, shoulders down etc and look very natural. Page 52 WAG Help Desk

11.6 Specific Apparatus Deductions (E-Panel) Movement close to the Floor with a part of the torso (including thigh) and/or head touching the floor (element not necessary) CLARIFICATION SPECIFIC ELEMENTS Side split leap with 1/1 turn (similar to cross split leap with 1/1 turn ) will be considered a C- element and will be different from cross split leap with 1/1. The element with side split cannot be used to fulfill CR. The element must be submitted, since there is not in the Table of Elements. Tempo Salto on FX. For recognition of the element (#5.104) use same guideline formulated for BB: If Tempo Salto is last element of the acro line, then consider it as stretched or piked salto (#5.101).
