In teaching, the center is responsible for coordinating the interdisciplinary graduate certificate program in homeland security and defense. In research, the center has been active in grants and involved in research that has resulted in conference presentations and publications in homeland security. In terms of service, representatives from the center have been active nationally, within the state and in the region in homeland security related activities. Partnerships have been developed with local, state, and federal agencies. PRIOR ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE Director of the Community and Social Issues Institute The mission of the Community and Social Issues Institute is to serve as a catalyst to organize and apply the research and service capacity of the University and to assist public and private organizations as they address significant social issues facing the many communities. The Institute sponsors and supports the Go Lead and Gold nonprofit leadership training programs. The Institute is also responsible for managing and supporting the noncredit course offerings of Missouri State University. Numerous courses, workshops and conferences are offered by the Institute. Chair, Department of Criminal Justice and Legal Studies, University of Central Florida Responsible for building and maintaining undergraduate degree programs in Criminal Justice and Legal Studies on multiple campuses. Notable accomplishments: recruited and built a strong diverse faculty who were committed to serving students, the university, the community and the profession. Helped design and implement several certificate programs, a master s in Criminal Justice and a PhD in Public Affairs.
