NAME OF DEGREE Master of Arts (Criminal Justice Administration) M.A. (Criminal Justice Administration) 3. OBJECTIVES 1. To produce graduates with knowledge and capabilities in both academic, administration and in practice in criminal justice administration 2. To produce graduates where there is a need for qualified personnel to work in various agencies throughout the country 3. To promote criminal justice personnel to have comprehensive and sound knowledge and capacities at a high level of academic achievement and to become graduates with better conduct and ethics. 4. To promote more academic and professional development in criminal justice administration by application of interdisciplinary approaches 5. To produce academicians to gain an insight into more advanced, comprehensive and profound criminal justice research 5. ACADEMIC SYSTEM 1. The program offers evening courses under a dual semester system. There are two program options which the students may select according to their interesting as deemed appropriate. Plan A : Thesis Program Plan B : Non thesis Program by taking some elective course 2. Comprehensive Examination and Thesis Requirements Comprehensive Examination and thesis requirements must be in accordance with the Academic Regulations for Master s Programs B.E. 2528/2985 and of the Standard Criteria of the Graduate Studies Courses of the Ministry of University Affairs 2.1 Comprehensive Examination Requirements Plan A : Students may take the comprehensive Examination - after completion of 12 credits, - They must earn a grade point average of 3.00 in all graduate work Plan B : Students may take the comprehensive examination after having completed all courses and will be allowed to take the examination in the first semester of the expected year of graduation 2.2 Thesis Registration Students may register for a thesis after having studied not less than 2 semesters and after completion of not less than 12 credits and maintaining a grade point average (G.P.A) of not less than 3.00; and must pass the comprehensive examination at the P level. 6. CURRICULUM 6.1 Total Requirements 39 Credits 6.2 Course Structure Plan A - Requirement courses = 6 (18 credits) - Required elective courses = 3 (9 credits) - Thesis (12 credits) Plan B - Requirement courses = 6 (18 credits) - Required elective courses = 3 (9 credits) - Free Elective Course = 4 (12 credits)

ACADEMICD DURATION Students must complete in no less than 4 regular semesters and not more than 14 regular semesters of the dual semester system. COURSE DESCRIPTIONS Requirement Courses CJ601 Social Change and Development in Thai Society 3 credit Analysis of social change and development in Thai society from the past up to the present time by focusing on economic, social, political structures. Theoretical framework and behaviors of the Thais in Thai society relating to major causes and maintenance of crime problems and their impact on crime reduction must also be the core of the analysis CJ602 Criminology and Penological Theory 3 credit A study of criminological theories starting from the Classic Period to the current one, in terms of characteristics and causes of crime; process of becoming criminal, Contributions of theoretical approaches concerned with criminal justice system and problems of broader crime control. SW622 Criminal Justice Administration 3 credit A study of the structure, power and functions of criminal justice agencies; and an analysis of management; system operation; planning and policies; implementation and decision making. (Field visits and observation of other agencies will also be included).
3 CJ604 Computer in Social Science Research 3 credit A study of basic computer knowledge for data collection and the application of social science research and that of basic statistical principles. Descriptive and inductive statistics with an emphasis on quantitative research for information in criminal justice are also included. CJ605 Criminal Justice Research 3 credit A study of basic knowledge of research methodology techniques, designs and strategies, with an emphasis on data collection of crimes and victims; an analysis of trends and body of knowledge building from research findings. CJ701 Seminar in Problems of Criminal Justice 3 credit An analysis and exploration of a variety of criminal justice problems, starting from law formulation, enforcement and consequences affected by criminal justice implementation and criminal justice; measures and approaches in remedying the problems; major crisis in criminal justice activities and criminal justice in the current situation. Required elective courses CJ611 Rehabilitation and Treatment of Offenders 3 credit A study and an analysis of the development of the treatment of offenders, in terms of historical, sociological aspects; the philosophy of remedy and treatment of offenders, paradigm of treatment of offenders who violate the constitutional law and other legislation related to the treatment of offenders that have been widely used in Thai Society, as well as techniques and procedures in the process of treatment of offenders. CJ612 Security Management 3 credit A study of major principles and problems of security management, especially personal security and those of properties and buildings; fire-setting and various robberies and terrorism by participatory learning with the governmental, non-governmental organization and business enterprises. CJ613 Forensic Science 3 credit A study of knowledge in forensic science, evidence, evidence trafficking, maintenance and protection of the integrity of document, personal and various evidences, as well as existing problems / obstacles in evidence management and administration, assistance and counseling of personnel working in this area. CJ711 Comprehensive Criminal Justice 3 credit A study of comparative criminal justice in Thailand and abroad with an emphasis on structures, functions, organization, law enforcement process of various countries by studying the role of criminal justice in crime prevention and remedy, as well as emphasizing the significance of social justice enhancement in the society. CJ799 Individual Study 3 credit A study of topics of individual interests under the guidance of a lecturer in each field. Free Elective Course CJ713 Economic Crimes 3 credit Study definitions, criminal propensities and consequences of economic crimes, including analysis of various measures of the government in dealing with such crimes, as well as trends in the seriousness of global economic crimes in the future. CJ714 Criminal Justice Theories 3 credit A study of theories, philosophy evolution, principles and social foundation concerned with criminal law as well as analysis of trends in changes of these laws in the future.
4 CJ715 Juvenile Delinquency 3 credit A study of concepts, theories and research related to juvenile delinquency in terms of definitions, causes, sub-cultures of juvenile delinquents; the process of entering into delinquent careers; and determination and analysis of various institutions for delinquents in the juvenile justice system; as well as an assessment of prevention and remedy of juvenile delinquency CJ716 Victimology 3 credit A study of causes, roles and rights of crime victims in juvenile justice system; victims behaviors and relationship between victims and criminals, as well as assistance and victim compensation by governmental and non-governmental organizations; and approaches in prevention of recidivism for victims. CJ717 Community s Roles in Crime Prevention 3 credit Study and analyze community s vital roles in Thai society in crime prevention and control both directly and indirectly, with more emphasis on the participation of non-governmental sector, as well as enhancement of social bonds, public hearing and public accountability CJ718 Family Violence 3 credit Study sources and various models of family offences as well as search for legal or social measures and approaches in treatment of offenders in relation to both marital and child abuse SW663 Probation, Pardon, Parole and Aftercare 3 credit A study and analysis of the essential techniques and methods of probation, pardon, parole and after-care system in both theory and practice. CJ720 Community-based Corrections 3 credit A study of social structure, various changes that bring about crime problems, roles of the society in coping with the offenders; principles, methods and services that the society can provide for the offenders both in the prison and in the society; as well as the promotion of public relations and the raising of social consciousness and responsibility for the offenders in rehabilitation and remedy. SW661 Law and Social Control 3 credit An analysis of legal systems with particular emphasis on laws, and social control, and their impact on people and society. CJ731 Seminar in Prevention and Corrections : Analysis and Evaluation 3 credit A study and analysis of problems and benefits of various crime prevention projects operated by both governmental and non-governmental sectors; study and analysis how to distribute the projects under the responsibility of the court, the Office of Attorney-General, the Police Department, the Correction Department and the Policy and Planning Bureau of the interior Ministry; as well as selecting these projects for evaluation as to how they attain stated objectives/. goals. THESIS CJ800 Thesis 12 credits 8. EDUCATIONAL EVALUATION AND ACHIEVEMENT Educational Evaluation 1. Educational Evaluation is divided into 8 grades with the designations and grade points per one credit as follows : Level A A- B+ B B- C+ C D F 2. An evaluation of some credit courses, grades S (Satisfactory) and U (Unsatisfactory) may be assigned. 3. For Thesis, grades S (Satisfactory) and U (Unsatisfactory); A Thesis with grade S must be considered as passing with credits.
5 4. An evaluation of some credit courses without credits is divided into 2 levels namely the P level (passing) and the N level (not passing) without a grade, for example :English Examination and Comprehensive Examination 5. The counting of the credits earned shall be made only for those of the courses in which the students earned the D or F level, either required or elective courses, shall be calculated as grade as grade point average for that semester and a cumulative grade point average at all times. Educational Requirements : The students shall complete courses when 1. They complete all required courses and perform according to all criteria required by the Faculty of Social Administration and by Thammasat University; and they earn grade point average of 3.00 in all grad work; 2. They must earn P level in their comprehensive Examination; 3. They must earn P in an English Course; 4. They must earn S in their thesis Defense (in cases where they choose to write a thesis) 9. OTHER CRITERIA Other details apart from those in the program shall be in accordance with Academic Regulations for Master Program of B.E. 2528/1985 other regulations of Thammasat University.
