Geographical situation Current situation of Catalan rural areas: Decrease of the importance of the agrarian sector Existence of a very different landscapes and habitats with interest of environmental protection (Natura 2000) and rural heritage that needs to be conserved Recognision of the agrarian production multifunctioning in process Strong development of the tourist sector which has led to a dependence on the construction sector. Consolidation of local markets which provide a wide range of goods and services Deficiencies in the accessibility to basic services and terrestrial communications network (specially in mountain areas) to ensure good quality of life.
