2 FACILITIES AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS Classrooms Classrooms are fully equipped with white boards, data projectors, and Internet connections. They are well furnished with study tables and chairs. Computer Labs The college has dedicated computer labs for training purposes as well as for after class work by the students. Other computers are available for student assessment purposes in the open study area. Computer labs are connected to printers and are equipped with the latest software for training and assessment. Printing and Photocopying Facilities All students have access to printing and photocopying facilities for course related materials. These facilities are available on a user-pays basis. Please contact the Student Services or IT department for further information. Online and Study Resources Students receive a combination of prescribed textbooks and materials for their enrolled Units. Online access is provided to all Unit study materials. All computers are equipped with facilities for students to search for journals, articles and literature for assessment purposes. Wireless Campus Classrooms and open study areas provide wireless computer connections for all students. We strongly recommend that each student acquires a notebook computer of their own, to increase their study effectiveness. Student Support and Learning Assistance Centre Learning Assistance is available for students requiring additional academic support or remedial English language assistance. Study skills workshops are available to help students learn how to succeed in their studies. One-to-one assistance with assignments and assessment tasks is provided by appointment. Airport Pickup and Accommodation Support SCBIT can arrange airport pickup and accommodation support on a user-pays basis for its domestic as well as international students. Students must notify SCBIT at the time of accepting the offer, to arrange 0accommodation and airport pickup. Elearning A flexible mode of learning is available from both College and home. All Course and Unit Materials are available online for students and staff. Students are able to submit class work and projects via Elearning. Policies, Procedures, legislation, forms and learning assistance are all available from the College Elearning site. STUDENT RECRUITMENT, SELECTION AND ENROLMENT PROCEDURE Language and Literacy Testing Procedures Applicants who wish to study Diploma or Advanced Diploma courses, and who are unable to provide documentation attesting to their English proficiency levels, will be tested before they can enrol in the course. The following testing procedures apply: Students have to sit for an English test at SCBIT designed specifically to establish the following English competencies: Syntax and grammar, Reading comprehension, Descriptive writing/free-style essay and/or a business-oriented essay, Listening to ordinary and academic spoken English, Speaking a brief topic-oriented discussion. The test is marked on the principles of the IELTS band score to establish a student s competence to study in an academic environment. Students who already have a satisfactory IELTS score and who are found to experience difficulty with the English language are counselled by the Director of Studies to undertake further studies or remedial studies in English (ESL) for an appropriate duration. The participants for each program offered by the college will be selected in a manner that reflects access and equity principles. Student Orientation Orientation is conducted in the week prior to commencement of the course. Its purpose is to inform new students about the various aspects of life at SCBIT and provide an introduction to studying, SCBIT policies, Sydney s cost of living, safety, transportation, facilities and accommodation as well as advice for living in Australia. In addition SCBIT staff will be introduced, and there will be a tour of SCBIT campus to familiarise new students with all the facilities available. Working in Australia Overseas students who are on a student visa have permission to work in Australia. DIAC allows students to work for a limited number of hours which currently is 20 hours per week while they are enrolled and studying. However, work is not easy to find and under no circumstances can students rely on income earned in Australia to pay tuition fees. Students are not permitted to work if it interferes with their study. Dependents Dependents of persons holding a student visa are required to pay full fees in any school, college or university in which they are enrolled while in Australia. Change of Address It is mandatory for International students to notify the provider about their change of address within 7 days in order to meet their visa conditions. Use of Personal Information Information provided by students may be made available to Commonwealth and State agencies and the Fund Manager of the ESOS Assurance Fund, pursuant to obligations under the ESOS Act 2000 and the National Code. SCBIT is required, under s19 of the ESOS Act 2000, to inform DEEWR about changes to student s enrolment and any breach by students of student visa conditions relating to attendance. Course Delivery The courses are delivered through classroom training, practical workshops, simulation exercises, group work, seminars, tutorials, classroom activities, and supervised study. Course Assessment In general terms, assessment during training will involve Observation of work activities in a simulated workplace Case scenarios using simulation Projects Simulation exercises/role plays Presentations Activity sheets Written tests and exams Students will be given information in advance of the time and form of any assessment. Students will be given an opportunity for at least one reassessment for any competency not achieved on the first attempt subject to meeting minimum satisfactory attendance requirement. Recognition of Prior Learning Students who believe that they already have some of the competencies in the course may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Application can be made at any time with payment of fees of $400 per unit and must be made using the Application Form which is available through the Director of Studies. Credit Transfer Students who have completed units from their course at other approved institutions are given recognition for those units upon presentation of a verified transcript, award or statement of attainment. Please discuss with Director of Studies before the commencement of the course. Tuition fee and course duration will be adjusted for successful applicants.

5 STUDY PATHWAY Through articulation arrangements, Sydney College of Business and IT provides students with Study Pathways from English, through Diploma and Advanced Diploma to Degree and Master courses. To study Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses at SCBIT, International students need to have good English skills. Students must have IELTS score of 5.5 (with no less than 5.0 in each band), or equivalent. To meet this requirement, students may first choose to study at Advance English. Graduates from SCBIT Diploma courses may choose to continue their studies to SCBIT Advanced Diploma level, or to follow the articulation pathway to KBS Bachelor of Business. Graduates from SCBIT Advanced Diploma courses may choose to follow the articulation pathway to KBS Bachelor of Business. Alternatively, with relevant industry experience, it is possible for graduates from the Advanced Diploma to enter directly into the KBS Master of Accounting. Students may also choose to follow the KBS pathway from Graduate Certificate, then Graduate Diploma to Master of Business Administration.

8 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Australia Australia is a land of contrasts: sweeping golden beaches, coral reefs rich with marine life, tropical rainforests, mountain ranges, vast grazing lands and sparse deserts. Surrounded by the Indian and Pacific Oceans, Australia has many animals and plants which are unique to the planet. The surface geology is typically old and flat with a major mountain range stretching down the eastern coast and another mountain range in the north west of the continent. Australia is home to approximately 22 million people with diverse multicultural backgrounds. Sydney Sydney is situated in the state of New South Wales which is the most populous state in Australia. It has all four seasons with very good ambience and atmosphere to live and study. Sydney is located in the Eastern part of Australia. Sydney has famous beaches and sporting facilities. For more information about Sydney, visit Cost of Living In addition to paying the full cost of their courses, students must meet all their own travel and living expenses. A single person studying in Australia will need a minimum of AU$18,610 each year in addition to the tuition fees to cover their living and other expenses. This amount also depends on the kind of accommodation a student chooses. For a married person with a dependent spouse, he/she will need another AU$6,515 each year. If there are children, the living expenses needed will be approximately AU$3,720 for the first child and another $2,790 for every other child. Visa Requirements for International Students Applying for a Student Visa Prospective International students intending to study in Australia must obtain a student visa from an Australian diplomatic mission in their home country before embarking for Australia. There are regulations that must be met before a student visa is issued and these vary from country to country. Information about visa regulations is available on the website students/ Important Information for International Students Courses delivered/offered by Sydney College of Business and Information Technology (SCBIT) for overseas students are full time courses. These courses are not delivered part-time or by distance education. The minimum amount of full-time study shall be 20 contact hours per week for SCBIT courses, taken as an average for each term while the course is in session. For SCBIT courses, the number of weeks of study in an Academic year is 40 weeks per year (4 terms of 10 weeks each). The duration of each course has been determined on the basis of the normal amount of full time study required to complete the course. All the courses delivered by SCBIT do not have any requirement of work-based training. Before lodging your enrolment application you should consider whether you would have enough money to cover: living expenses, air fares, course tuition fees, Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) and all general expenses including books and other items required during your stay in Australia. Students are not required to be enrolled full-time in their final term where the students have been required to repeat units. Students are not permitted to repeat a unit of study more than twice. Application and Enrolment Procedure To complete the SCBIT application form, students must sign the application form. Send the application form to SCBIT along with certified copies of academic transcripts (original language version and English translation if applicable) from Senior High school and any subsequent study. Additional proof of English proficiency IELTS is required. Students from AL 1 and AL 2 countries can produce TOEFL or other relevant English proficiency test. On receipt of tuition fee payment, an Orientation information package is sent. Each student has a specific orientation date and time. Students are required to attend Orientation Day for information sessions and enrolment. Orientation is conducted one week before the course commencement date. If possible, you should arrive at least a week prior to the course commencement date in order to adequately settle into your accommodation, and to familiarize yourself with the local surroundings.
