1 Josef Sifuentes, Ph.D. TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY MATH DEPARTMENT - MS 3368 COLLEGE STATION, TX PHONE: (832) josefs@math.tamu.edu URL: josefs EDUCATION AND ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE 2012-Present: Texas A&M University, College Station, TX Visiting Assistant Professor : Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University Research Scientist : Rice University, Houston, TX Ph.D. in Computational And Applied Mathematics (CAAM). Thesis Title: Preconditioned Iterative Methods for Inhomogeneous Acoustic Scattering Applications. Advisor: Professor Mark Embree : Rice University, Houston, TX Master of Arts in CAAM. Thesis Title: Preconditioning the Integral Formulation of the Helmholtz Equation via Deflation. Advisor: Professor Mark Embree : Rice University, Houston, TX Bachelor of Arts in Math, CAAM, and Visual Arts RESEARCH Research Interest I am interested in the general area of numerical linear algebra with a specific interest in iterative methods for nonsymmetric linear systems. Currently I am investigating using perturbation theory results to develop convergence bounds for Krylov subspace based methods (e.g. GMRES) applied to approximately preconditioned linear systems. I am also working on using recycled Krylov information within the Arnoldi iteration. My work on Krylov subspace methods stems from developing efficient computational modeling of acoustic and electro-magnetic wave scattering. Medical and seismic imaging, radar, sonar, remote sensing and laser interaction applications motivate the need for efficient simulation of such scattering phenomena. This technology is vital to applications within the Defense, Energy, and Medical Industries. In addition to my investigation of Krylov subspace methods, I am also working on developing efficient quadrature rules for approximating integral formulation evaluations utilized in Fast Multipole Methods.
