1 APPENDIX LOCAL WATER USE 1. As part of the original 2008 ES 1 a survey of water use near to Site was undertaken. 2. This survey was repeated as part of 2013 SEI and included: completing a door to door survey of properties near to Site (in July 2012) to gather details of water use and the location of any water abstractions (see Table 13.A2.1). If it was not possible to speak to the occupiers of a property, a form and SAE was left so that details of water used could be returned to SLR. Not all properties returned a form and the details presented in Table 13.A2.1 reflect all returns and interviews completed; obtaining details of Severn Trent Water potable water distribution infrastructure near to Site; obtaining details of recorded private water supplies near to Site from Powys County Council (see Table 13.A2.2); private water supplies identified in the 2008 ES1 (see Table 13.A2.3); water supplies identified in the Llanbrynmair ES 2 (see Table 13.A2.4); obtaining details of licensed water abstractions near to Site from the Environment Agency Wales (see Table 13.A2.5) 3. Figure 13.A2.1 shows the location of abstractions and properties recorded by the water interests surveys completed. 4. Review of the data collected confirms: Severn Trent Water maintain surface water intakes in the headwaters of the Afon Cwm (sub catchment C) on the western Site boundary which is located approximately 500m from the proposed access track to R12, R13 and the southern portion of the site. there is one supply within the boundary of the Site: Y Wern (ref. 46, 2008 ES) located in the northeast of the Site on the lower hillside slopes above the Afon Banwy which is reported to be sourced from a spring (the supply is located more than 1000m from the nearest wind farm infrastructure). all other abstractions are located outside of the proposed Site boundary 1 Environmental Statement, December 2008, Carnedd Wen Wind Farm and Habitat Restoration Project. 2 Environmental Statement, 2009, Llanbrynmair Wind Farm PAGE 1 of 10

2 the majority of private water supplies noted by the SLR 2012 survey recorded water supplies from groundwater or springs, only 2 abstractions (ref. 5 and 25) are recorded from surface water, review of Figure 13.A2.1 confirms that these are located in surface water catchments in which no wind farm development is proposed and thus are not at risk from the proposed development. the 2008 ES1 also records that the majority of water abstractions are from groundwater or springs; only 1 abstraction (ref.: 50) is recorded to be from surface water, review of Figure 13.A2.1 confirms that this abstraction is also not located in surface water catchment that would contain potential wind farm development. Powys County Council does not record the source of private water supplies. the supplies identified in the Llanbrynmair ES2 are shown to be remote from any proposed Carnedd Wen wind farm infrastructure PAGE 2 of 10
