12 Chapter 2: General Overview 12 HOST AND SERVICES Host - defined as a physical or virtual server, workstation or device that resides on the network. Service - defined as a KPI (Key Performance Indicator) that is checked on a host. Host States Centerity Monitor does not execute host checks on regular basis; rather, it depends on the services assigned to the host being checked. If any services change state, for example from OK to WARNING, the monitor executes a single check to determine host availability. There are four different states available for Host Checks: Down - The host is not responding. Unreachable - The host is unreachable for the system due to a network outage. Up - The host is reachable. Pending - The host has not been checked yet. Service States Service Checks are either executed actively on a regular basis or submitted passively by an external command interface. The service checks are instructions for the monitor server to execute specific plugins and collect information regarding the service monitored. There are five different states available for Service Checks: Critical - The Service check responded with a value that is within the critical level. Warning - The Service check responded with a value that is within the warning level. Unknown - The service of does not respond correctly or it is misconfigured. OK - The service check is within the ok thresholds. Pending - The service has not been checked yet.

26 Chapter 5: Business Service Views 26 Chapter 5: Business Service Views OVERVIEW Business Service Views are an effective approach for managing Information Technology (IT) from the perspective of the business. They can increase business value through better management of IT and processes. Centerity Monitor can build a logical map containing layers of components such as network, web services, databases, storage, etc.; then, Centerity Monitor calculates the Service utilization overall and for every component layer. Business Service Management (BSM) leaves no stone unturned. Business services, activities, processes, transactions, etc., are understood from the business user's perspective, internally and externally, in their terms, their language and their performance expectations, while understanding the impact on their jobs, productivity, goals and objectives, SLAs, etc. Monitor Dashboard Service Views: Displays all active Service Views in the system: DETAILED SERVICE VIEW INFORMATION

30 Chapter 6: Root Cause Analysis 30 Chapter 6: Root Cause Analysis Centerity Monitor can detect breakdowns and outages of hosts. In order to do so, admins need to implement a Parent/Child relationship for every host that is monitored in the system. For instance, if you have a router, a switch, and a host, you need to set the Switch as the Host parent and the Router as the Switch parent. This way "Centerity Monitor" will know what host affects what and can calculate the breakdowns more accurately. The Network Outages view is accessed from Monitor Dashboard Outages. 1. Name: Name of the host causing the network outage. 2. State: State of the host. 3. Duration: How long has the outage been happening. 4. Hosts Affected: Number of hosts affected by the outage. 5. Services Affected / Service View Affected: Number of services / service views affected by the outage. 6. Links: Perform various actions and view reports on the specific outage: 6.1. Map View : Displays outages map Availability Report : Displays last 24-hours availability report for this host History Report : Displays last 24-hours history report for tis host.
31 Chapter 7: Status Map 31 Chapter 7: Status Map OVERVIEW A network diagram is always important to visualize problems in your network. Centerity Monitor provides 4 types of maps 1. Air View 2. Hyper Map 3. Topology map 4. Live Network map The Hyper Map, Air View and Topology map will be created automatically based on hierarchy definition ant parent-child relationship. VISUAL LAYOUTS - HYPERMAP The Hyper map provides dynamic and interactive network layout and requires Java client to be displayed on your browser. By default, all hosts that are defined in the system will be presented in the hyper map automatically.
32 Chapter 7: Status Map 32 VISUAL LAYOUTS - TOPOLOGY HYPERMAP The hyper map provides real-time indication about problems with the services in every host or host group. In case of new event, the host background color in the hyper map will present the status (yellow - warning, orange - unknown, red - critical). VISUAL LAYOUTS AIR VIEW
