Installation: Install ICE.TCP PLUS Files on the PC Use the program SETUP to install ICE.TCP PLUS files on your PC workstation and automatically edit your system files. Insert the ICE.TCP PLUS CD. If autorun is enabled, the Setup program runs automatically. Alternately, use the Windows Start command to run the Setup program manually. The SETUP program creates a directory the default is C:\Program Files\J River\ICETCPPLUS and copies the ICE.TCP PLUS files into it. You can designate a different directory if you wish. Installation of the ICE.TCP PLUS files on the PC is complete. You will now have an ICE.TCP PLUS Program Group that contains the ICE.TCP PLUS programs. The SETUP program will prompt you to enter a sequence number for the PC. Enter one of the numbers listed on the log sheet included with your CD. SETUP will not let you enter a number that is out of range. IMPORTANT: A different sequence number must be used for each PC that uses ICE.TCP PLUS to connect to a UNIX host. If two PCs share the same number, ICE.TCP PLUS will alert you to correct the conflict. After installing ICE.TCP PLUS files, the SETUP program automatically runs the configuration program iceconfig, which will help you define the IP address(es) for the UNIX host(s) and define terminal emulation parameters. *Customers with keyboards other than United States, please see page 11.

DejaWinT with SSH This chapter describes how to configure and use DejaWinT, ICE.TCP PLUS s terminal emulation program for Windows 9x/200x/XP/Vista. DejaWinT emulates the following terminals: Linux Color Console, SCO ANSI Color Console, AT386 ANSI Color Console, Old SCO ANSI (pre-3.2.2), IBM 3151, AT&T 605, VT102, VT220, Wyse 60, Wyse 160, and PC Terminal. Configuring DejaWinT with iceconfig When DejaWinT runs, it reads its initialization (data) files, which contain information about the connected computers. You can tailor these settings to meet the requirements of your system and/or your personal preferences. Most settings are contained in the file ICETCPPLUS.INI, which is created during installation and placed in the C:\WINDOWS directory. The configuration program iceconfig is used to change the settings in ICETCPPLUS.INI. iceconfig can be used to configure UNIX host connections, terminal emulation settings, screen colors, print services, character mapping, and key programming. iceconfig also can be accessed from DejaWinT, allowing you to change settings on the fly during a UNIX session. (See Making Connections with DejaWinT later in this chapter.) Using iceconfig To run iceconfig from Windows, use the Windows 9x/200x/XP/Vista Start command or double-click the iceconfig icon (located in the ICE.TCP PLUS Program Group). To run iceconfig from DejaWinT, select Settings > Configuration or click the ICE.Config button on the DejaWinT Tool Bar. When the program runs, simply point and click to select items.

8 ICE.TCP PLUS DejaWinT NOTE: If you run iceconfig from Windows, the changes you make will not affect currently-running DejaWinT sessions; the changes will apply only to subsequent DejaWinT sessions. If you run iceconfig from a DejaWinT session, the changes you make will immediately affect that session (and subsequent sessions), but other DejaWinT sessions running at the same time won t be affected. iceconfig lets you switch between different groups of settings by clicking on a row of tabs, which allows you to switch directly from one group of settings to any other group with a single click. After defining new settings, click Apply to save the new settings without exiting. Click OK to save the changes and exit. To exit without saving the changes, click Cancel. (Any changes saved by clicking Apply will not be affected by clicking Cancel later.) The following sections describe settings contained under iceconfig. Host Settings The iceconfig Host window lets you define UNIX host connection information. In addition to adding new hosts, you can configure DejaWinT to automatically connect and log in to a host when it runs. You also can define a character string, called an initialization string, that can be sent to a UNIX host manually or automatically. Click the Advanced button to configure SSH and the Auto-Login and initialization string features. Host Identification & Host Name/IP Address The Host Identification box is used to define the UNIX host(s) you will access using ICE.TCP PLUS. Names listed under Host Identification need not be actual UNIX host names, but each must correspond to an actual UNIX host name or IP address (as specified in the Host Name/IP Address box below). The Host Identification box allows you to assign names of your own choosing for your

9 UNIX sessions, including different names for multiple connections to a single UNIX host. For example, for the UNIX host jriver, the Host Identification name jriver-database could be assigned to a connection setup that accesses a UNIX database program. The Host Identification name jriver-mail could be assigned to a setup that accesses mail services. Using different Host Identification names makes it easier to manage not only connections to more than one UNIX host, but multiple connections to a single UNIX host. Figure 1 ICE.Config Host Settings To delete a host from the list, select it and click the Remove button. To add a new host, click to display the Host Identification listbox, select the blank listing, enter information for the new host, and click the Add button. (The Remove button changes to Add while new host information is being entered.) ICE.TCP PLUS DejaWinT Auto-Select By selecting a host under Host Identification and activating the Auto-Select checkbox, the configuration parameters for that host will be displayed immediately when iceconfig runs. Auto-Select can be assigned to only one host listed under Host Identification. Auto-Connect When the Auto-Connect checkbox is activated for a UNIX host, DejaWinT will bypass the Hosts menu and connect automatically to the UNIX host.

10 ICE.TCP PLUS DejaWinT SSH You can use SSH for secure shell connections to any host supporting SSH by activating the SSH checkbox. Initialization String For each host defined under Host Identification, a one-line string of characters can be stored that can be sent (as ASCII or SCAN codes) during a UNIX session. You can send the string by selecting Commands > Send Initialization String from the DejaWinT menu, or it can be sent automatically when DejaWinT runs by activating the Send Initialization String on Connect checkbox (see next item). Send Initialization String on Connect When the Send Initialization String on Connect checkbox is activated, DejaWinT will automatically send a one-line string of characters (defined in the initialization string box, as described in the preceding item) when you log in to UNIX. If the checkbox is not activated (the default), the initialization string can still be sent manually (see preceding item). Auto-Login When the Auto-Login checkbox is activated for a UNIX host, your UNIX login, password, and (optionally) a UNIX command line will be sent automatically when you use DejaWinT to access the UNIX host. (The UNIX command line can be used to run a UNIX application or perform other UNIX functions automatically.) To set up Auto-Login, select a Unix host in the Host Identification box, activate the Auto-Login checkbox, and enter your login and password information, just as you would when logging in to the UNIX host manually. Entering a UNIX command line is optional. If you enter one, use semicolons (;) to represent carriage returns.

11 General Settings The iceconfig General window lets you define defaults for DejaWinT s general settings, including initial screen size, activation of confirm exit or disable exit, bold fonts, Tool Bar, Command Bar, editing keys (CTRL-C and CTRL-V), jump scroll settings, and Keep Alive settings. Figure 2 ICE.Config General Settings Initial Screen Size This setting determines the initial size of the DejaWinT window. Click the radiobutton to select the default size you prefer: very small, small, medium, or large. Confirm Exit? When the Confirm Exit checkbox is activated, DejaWinT displays a permission prompt before exiting anything other than a UNIX logout. ICE.TCP PLUS DejaWinT Disable Exit When the Disable Exit checkbox is activated, DejaWinT prevents File > Exit and the (X) button from functioning. Bold Fonts When the Bold Fonts checkbox is activated, DejaWinT displays bold characters, which may be useful with some VGA adapters that don t display a wide enough pixel.

12 ICE.TCP PLUS DejaWinT Command Bar This checkbox activates (or deactivates) the DejaWinT Command Bar. (See Using the DejaWinT Command Bar. ) Tool Bar This checkbox activates (or deactivates) the DejaWinT Tool Bar. (In addition, individual buttons on the Tool Bar can be removed or rearranged. See Using the DejaWinT Tool Bar. ) Keep Alive Interval Sends a transparent message in the background every *10 seconds to keep routers/gateways from closing an idle session. Jump Scroll When the Jump Scroll checkbox is activated, DejaWinT will jump through information a screen at a time, instead of scrolling through a line at a time. The screen scrolls faster but less smoothly. The rate of the jump scroll (in number of lines) is defined in the accompanying Jump Scroll Rate box. This setting also can be changed by selecting Settings > Jump Scroll (a toggle command) from the DejaWinT menu. Use Edit Ctrl Keys The shortcut keys used by Windows to copy text (CTRL-C) and paste text (CTRL-V) sometimes correspond and conflict with UNIX commands When activated, this checkbox allows these editing commands to be used in DejaWinT. Keyboard Language This setting notifies DejaWinT to use the correct character set for the selected country keyboard.

13 Connection Settings The iceconfig Connect window lets you define the configuration parameters regulating the connection between the PC workstation and the UNIX host, including word length, parity, character delay, and the type of terminal emulation used. Word Length This setting determines the word length supported by UNIX. Possible choices are 7 and 8 (usually 8). Parity This setting determines the parity that UNIX expects for the terminal. The choices are Odd, Even, or None. If the word length is 8, parity is usually none. If the word length is 7, parity is usually even. Figure 3 ICE.Config Connection Settings ICE.TCP PLUS DejaWinT Character Delay This setting determines the delay (in tenths of a second) after each multicharacter escape sequence is sent from the PC, so that the UNIX host has time to process them. If your function or editing keys behave erratically, try introducing a delay of 1 or 2, but otherwise set this to 0.

14 ICE.TCP PLUS DejaWinT Terminal Type This setting defines the terminal type DejaWinT will use with the UNIX host. Terminal types currently supported are: ANSI, 24 line or 25 line (recommended) Old SCO ANSI (pre-3.2.2)*, 24 line or 25 line (see below) AT386 ANSI AT&T605 Linux Console VT102 VT220 (almost always used) VT220 8-bit VAX (very rarely used) PCTERM IBM 3151 IBM bit Wyse 60, 24 line or 25 line (recommended) Wyse 160, 24 line or 25 line * ANSI emulation changed with SCO UNIX ICE.TCP PLUS supports both newer and older versions. Also, terminal types will switch when the appropriate escape sequences are received or entered. Send alt-a to alt-z keys to emulator Enable this checkbox to capture alt keys to the emulator. Alternate Terminal Line This setting allows the user to send a custom terminal type string during telnet/ ssh option negotiation.

15 Colors iceconfig lets you define background and foreground colors for the DejaWinT screen. Simply click on the Background Color or Foreground Color bar, then select a color by clicking the appropriate radiobutton. Also, colors and other screen attributes will switch when the appropriate escape sequences are received or entered. Figure 4 ICE.Config Colors Character Map A character map enables you to change characters entering and exiting DejaWinT. Character maps are typically used to map foreign language characters. To map incoming characters and outgoing characters, switch back and forth between the two by clicking the incoming/outgoing radiobuttons. In either map, edit character entries by clicking on them. Figure 5 ICE.Config Character Mapping ICE.TCP PLUS DejaWinT Each map includes 256 characters. Each character is represented by a hexadecimal value. For example, the letter A is represented by the hexadecimal value 41, and the letter B is represented by the hexadecimal value 42. To change the incoming letter A to an outgoing letter B, change 41 to 42 in the outgoing map.

16 ICE.TCP PLUS DejaWinT Character mapping does not alter the outgoing codes of function keys or the interpretation of incoming escape sequences. Key Mapping A key map is used to configure programmable keys and key combinations (for example, FUNCTION, CTRL, ALT, SHIFT, INS, etc.) to send a character string during a DejaWinT session. Redefined keys in the key map become the new default keys during the session. Any key not redefined by the key map keeps its default value. To add a new entry in the key map, click the New Key Map button. To remove an entry, click to select (highlight) it, then click the Delete Key Map button. Keys and key combinations to be programmed are listed to the left, under Key. A new key or key combination can be added by selecting it from the Key combobox. Figure 6 ICE.Config Key Mapping Under Value, to the right, enter a command line for the Key entry. The Value can be any string of characters (for example, echo, to send an echo command). Use a backslash (\) and number to enter a hex value (i.e. \033\064\0d). Making Connections with DejaWinT DejaWinT lets you access UNIX by opening a window that becomes the UNIX screen.

17 Starting DejaWinT To start DejaWinT, use the Windows 9x/200x/XP/Vista Start command or double-click the DejaWinT icon. A pop-up Hosts menu appears, displaying the name of each UNIX host available. Select a UNIX host and click OK. A UNIX login prompt should appear in a few seconds. To add or remove UNIX hosts from the menu, run the configuration program iceconfig and select Host. Figure 7 DejaWinT Window Auto-Connect and Auto-Login ICE.TCP PLUS includes Auto-Connect and Auto-Login features. Auto-connect lets you bypass the Hosts menu and go directly to a selected UNIX host when DejaWinT runs. Auto-login lets you specify your UNIX login, password, and (optionally) a UNIX command line for a selected UNIX host, enabling DejaWinT to automatically log in to the UNIX host and (optionally) issue a UNIX command (for example, to run a UNIX application). ICE.TCP PLUS DejaWinT For information on setting up Auto-Connect and Auto-Login, see Host Settings in the Configuring DejaWinT with iceconfig section. Using DejaWinT The DejaWinT window that opens is the UNIX session. You can move in and out of the DejaWinT (UNIX) window the same way you move in and out of other windows. (See your Windows manual for more information on the features available.) You can change the font size of the UNIX screen by moving the lower boundary of the DejaWinT window up (smaller) and down (larger).

18 ICE.TCP PLUS DejaWinT You can open additional UNIX sessions by using the Start or File > Run command again, double-clicking the DejaWinT icon again, or double-clicking anywhere in an already-open DejaWinT window. The Hosts menu appears each time you open a new session. When the DejaWinT window is open, commands can be selected from Main Menu at the top of the window. For more information, see Using the DejaWinT Menu (below). Also, see Using the DejaWinT Tool Bar (below) for information on the DejaWinT Tool Bar, which provides short-cuts for several common commands. DejaWinT also includes an optional Command Bar, which lets you create macros for use during your UNIX session. For more information, see Using the DejaWinT Command Bar (below). To end a UNIX session and close the DejaWinT window, simply log out by entering the UNIX exit command. The DejaWinT window closes automatically. Using 132-Column x 43-Line Video Modes DejaWinT supports 132-column/43-line displays. To switch modes, select Commands from the main menu, then click your choice of 80 or 132 columns and 25 or 43 lines. You can repaint the screen by selecting Edit > Repaint Screen or return to your original video mode setting by selecting Commands > Reset Screen Size. Terminal emulations also will switch in and out of 132-column and 43-line modes when the appropriate escape sequences are received or entered. Using the DejaWinT Main Menu The DejaWinT Main Menu includes the menus File, Edit, Commands, Settings, and Help to help you perform special tasks quickly and easily during UNIX sessions. DejaWinT also includes a Tool Bar that offers several command shortcuts. (See Using the DejaWinT Tool Bar below.)

19 File Menu Sequence Number. This command displays the currently assigned sequence number and allows the sequence number to be modified. A sequence number within the range of the purchased license must be entered. Sequence numbers must be unique and not duplicated among users of ICE.TCP PLUS. Copy to Printer. The Copy to Printer command lets you copy data coming from UNIX directly to a Windows printer selected using Local Print Setup (see below). Data will continue to print until you turn off Copy to Printer using the same command. Print Screen. The Print Screen command prints the contents of the current screen to a Windows printer selected using Local Print Setup (see below). Local Print Setup. This command is used to select a Windows printer for use with the Local Print utility and the Print Screen and Copy to Printer commands. Selections are saved automatically. Capture to File. This command saves raw screen output to a file called DEJADUMP.DAT until you turn it off using the same command. The DEJADUMP.DAT file is placed in your current directory. DEJADUMP.DAT is deleted the next time DejaWinT runs. This feature, useful primarily for debugging and troubleshooting, does not transfer UNIX files, only raw output from UNIX. ICE.TCP PLUS DejaWinT Raw Print Mode. Enables raw printing (passes the print job through without performing character or formatting conversions) for local print. Exit. This command lets you exit DejaWinT, closing the DejaWinT (UNIX) window and ending the UNIX session. Logging out of UNIX closes the DejaWinT window automatically.

20 ICE.TCP PLUS DejaWinT Edit Menu Copy. The Copy command lets you copy marked sections of text from the DejaWinT window to the Windows clipboard. Highlighted ( blocked ) text is also copied to the clipboard when you hit ENTER. As a shortcut, you can also use the DejaWinT Tool Bar. Paste. The Paste command lets you insert the contents of the Windows clipboard into the DejaWinT window (at the cursor). You can also use the shortcut key combination ALT+INS. As a shortcut, you can also use the DejaWinT Tool Bar. Repaint. This command repaints the screen, for example, after you change settings. As a shortcut, you can also use the DejaWinT Tool Bar. Commands Menu Send Initialization String. This command sends a string of characters to UNIX. (The initialization string is defined using the configuration program iceconfig. The scan code applies mainly to DOS emulation programs such as V/Pix or DOSMerge. Reset Terminal Parameters. This command resets all terminal parameters to their original settings, which can be useful if line garbage has put the emulation into an unwanted state (a keyboard lock, for example). Reset Comm State. This command sends a command break. Telnet. Use this command to display a list of available telnet commands.

21 25 Line/43 Line & 80 Column/132 Column. This feature allows you to set the screen to display 25 or 43 lines and 80 or 132 columns. The Reset Screen Size command (below) allows you to always return to your original setting. Instant Replay. This feature allows DejaWinT to scroll backward up to six screens (depending on font size and screen resolution). When the command is activated, the DejaWinT menu displays <<Backward and >>Forward. PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN keys can also be used. To return to the original (current) cursor position, press any key. As a shortcut, you can also use the DejaWinT Tool Bar. Reset Screen Size. This command allows you to reset the size of the screen to its initial setting. For example, if you start DejaWinT with the screen set at 25 lines and 80 columns, then change to 43 lines and 132 columns, this command returns the screen to 25x80. Settings Menu Configuration. Use this command to run the configuration program iceconfig. The changes you make will affect the current session (and all subsequent sessions), but other DejaWinT sessions running at the same time won t be affected. For more information, see Configuring DejaWinT with iceconfig. ICE.TCP PLUS DejaWinT Help Menu Help Topics. This command accesses the DejaWinT help files. Tool Button Help. If on, when you move the mouse over an icon, it s function prints on the menu bar. About DejaWinT. This command displays a copyright box that describes DejaWinT and shows the emulation and GUI version numbers.

22 ICE.TCP PLUS DejaWinT Using the DejaWinT Tool Bar DejaWinT includes a Tool Bar that provides shortcuts for several commonlyused commands. Click a button with the left (command) button on your mouse to perform a command. Buttons can be rearranged or removed from the Tool Bar by clicking anywhere on the Tool Bar with the right (auxiliary) button on your mouse. (A window opens where you can drag buttons so they won t be displayed. Or, while the window is open, drag the buttons to different locations on the Tool Bar to rearrange them.) To activate or deactivate the Tool Bar, run iceconfig and select General. Tool Bar Functions The first set of buttons lets you quickly change the size of the DejaWinT window. Three or four buttons are displayed, depending on your video resolution. Screen size can also be changed by using the mouse to click and drag the borders of the window, although the buttons work more effectively. To set the default screen size, run ICE.Config and select General. This button activates DejaWinT s Instant Replay feature, which lets you scroll backward up to six screens. When activated, the Instant Replay button changes to up and down arrows (below).

23 Click the up arrow to scroll backward and the down arrow to scroll forward. You can also use the PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN keys. To return to your original position, hit any other key. These three buttons let you copy information from the DejaWinT window to the Windows clipboard and paste information from the Windows clipboard to the DejaWinT window. To copy, highlight a block of text then click the copy button. If no text is highlighted, the content of the entire window is copied. To paste from the clipboard, click in the DejaWinT window to insert a cursor, then click the paste button. Click the third button to view clipboard contents. The paintbrush button activates DejaWinT s Repaint Screen command. ICE.TCP PLUS DejaWinT The FTP, iceconfig, and ICElp buttons let you run ICE.TCP PLUS s file transfer utility FTP-Pro, configuration program iceconfig, and printing utility ICElp from the DejaWinT window. Using the DejaWinT Command Bar DejaWinT includes a Command Bar that lets you easily create and use macros for commands commonly used during your UNIX sessions. Clicking a single

24 ICE.TCP PLUS DejaWinT button on the Command Bar sends a set of characters you have defined. For example, if there is a series of commands you use to access electronic mail, you can set up the commands as a macro or set of macros on the Command Bar. Or, the Command Bar can be used to store boilerplate text frequently needed in documents. Instead of re-entering the text manually or cutting and pasting it from an existing document, click a button on the Command Bar and the text is inserted automatically. To activate the Command Bar (if it isn t already displayed when DejaWinT opens), run iceconfig, select General, and click on the Command Bar checkbox. The Command Bar should appear next to the DejaWinT window. You can adjust the size of the Command Bar by clicking and dragging its edge as you would other windows. Customizing the Command Bar To customize the Command Bar, click the white dash at the upper left-hand corner of the Command Bar, which displays a menu. Click Options to open the Button Options dialog box. (If you select Close, the Command Bar will disappear. You must re-start DejaWinT to bring it back. Clicking Move lets you move the Command Bar, as explained in the next paragraph.) In the Button Options box you can define, in rows and columns, the number of buttons that will be displayed, as well as the font size of button labels. (When you click and drag to change the size of the bar, the number of buttons remains the same, but the buttons increase or decrease in size to fill the space available.) Select Glue to attach the Command Bar to the DejaWinT window in the position you choose (up, down, right, or left). When Glue is not selected, you can place the Command Bar wherever you want by selecting Move from the main Command Bar menu. If you activate Follow Up, the Command Bar stays in the same relative position to the DejaWinT window (that is, when you move the DejaWinT window, the Command Bar moves with it, even though the Command Bar is not directly glued to the DejaWinT window).

25 Defining Button Commands To define commands for buttons on the Command Bar, Edit Mode must be activated in the Buttons Options box. When the Command Bar is in edit mode, point the cursor to the command button you want to define and click the right (auxiliary) button on your mouse. (Clicking the left button activates the command, if one exists.) A dialog box appears in which you can define or edit a command for the button. You can define the label that will appear on the button and use Cut, Paste, and Copy commands to copy text to and from the Windows clipboard. The Undo button lets you undo your previous editing command, and the Keys button lets you insert special keys: BACKSPACE, ENTER, ESCAPE, TAB, and arrow keys. You must hit the ENTER key to move to a new line. Click Save to save the command and exit the editing box. Using the Command Bar To use the Command Bar, simply click, with the left (command) button on your mouse, any button for which you have defined a command. ICE.TCP PLUS DejaWinT

26 ICE.TCP PLUS FTP Pro

27 FTP Pro This chapter describes how to use FTP Pro, ICE.TCP PLUS s file transfer program for 9x/200x/XP/Vista. Taking advantage of UNIX File Transfer Protocol (FTP), FTP Pro is a powerful, easy-to-use tool for organizing and accessing FTP sites and transferring files via the Internet. Introduction to FTP Pro ICE.TCP PLUS FTP Pro To run FTP Pro, use the Windows 9x/200x/XP/Vista Start command. Select Start > Programs > ICE.TCP PLUS > FTP Pro. To transfer files to and from an FTP site, you must first access the site by entering its address and establishing a connection. In FTP Pro, FTP sites can be accessed using either Quick Connect or the FTP Site Profile Manager. The FTP Site Profile Manager lets you save FTP site information in site profiles that can be called up for future sessions. See Making Connections. NOTE: By default, FTP Pro initially displays the FTP Site Profile Manager. FTP Pro also can be configured to display the Quick Connect dialog box or connect automatically to the most recent FTP site visited. This feature can be disabled, so that only the main FTP Pro window is displayed when you launch the program. The main FTP Pro window resembles Windows Explorer. A directory tree of available folders on the FTP server is displayed to the left (the Directory View

28 ICE.TCP PLUS FTP Pro Title Bar Main Menu Site List Combobox Tool Bar Status Bar Figure 7 FTP Pro Main Window windowpane). Files within the currently-selected folder are displayed to the right (the File View windowpane). At the top of the FTP Pro window is the Main Menu, which provides access to all commands using a standard drop-down menu format. Click on an item in the Main Menu (File, Edit, View, Tools, or Help) to display a menu of available commands. Point and click on the menu to select a specific command. Commands are described in the next section. Below the Main Menu is a Tool Bar, which includes a Site List combobox and a set of icons that provide shortcuts for most FTP Pro commands. Point and click on Tool Bar icons to activate commands. (When a command is not currently available, its icon dims.) Pointing to an icon without clicking displays a tooltip that briefly describes the associated command. See the Tool Bar section for more information on customizing the Tool Bar and the specific commands available. At the bottom of the window is a Status Bar that displays information about current activity in the FTP Pro window. The FTP Pro window uses the standard Windows 9x/200x/XP/Vista buttons (on the title bar) to minimize, maximize, and exit the window. You can change the size of the window by clicking and dragging the lower right hand corner. To exit FTP Pro, select File > Close or click the Windows 9x/200x/XP/Vista Exit button on the FTP Pro title bar.

29 FTP Pro Main Menu The Main Menu of the FTP Pro interface includes File, Edit, View, Tools, and Help. Available commands for each are summarized below. NOTE: When working with files and folders, FTP Pro supports the use of a convenient pop-up menu, which provides shortcuts to several common operations. To open the pop-up menu, click on a file or folder with the right (auxiliary) mouse button. The pop-up menu includes commands for Open, Explore, View, Copy URL, Get, Put, Delete, New Folder, Properties, and About FTP Pro (as described below). ICE.TCP PLUS File Menu FTP Pro New > Folder. When a directory is selected, this command creates a new folder on the server inside the selected directory. FTP Pro prompts you to enter a name for the new folder. (This command is also available by clicking on a folder with the right mouse button to display the pop-up shortcut menu.) New > Session. This command allows you to select and connect to a different FTP site. The command opens the FTP Site Profile Manager. Get. Select this command to download the currently-selected file(s) or folder(s) from an FTP server. FTP Pro prompts you for a destination folder. (This command is also available by clicking on a file or folder with the right mouse button to display the pop-up shortcut menu.) Put. When a destination folder is selected, the Put command is used to upload files to an FTP server. The command opens a dialog box in which to select the file(s) or folder(s) to transfer. The files transferred to the server keep their original file names. (This command is also available by clicking on the destination folder with the right mouse button to display the pop-up shortcut menu.) Delete. The Delete command removes files or folders from an FTP server. Select the files or folders you want to delete, then select Delete. FTP Pro will

30 ICE.TCP PLUS FTP Pro display a confirmation box asking your permission to delete the selected files or folders. (This command is also available by clicking on a file or folder with the right mouse button to display the pop-up shortcut menu.) CAUTION: When you delete a folder, the files and folders within the folder are also deleted. The Delete command is an easy way to quickly remove many files from an FTP server, so use with care. NOTE: Deleted items are not copied to the Recycle Bin on your desktop. Rename. Use the Rename command to change the name of a selected file or folder. The command creates an edit box in which to enter a new name. A file or folder can also be renamed by selecting it and hitting the F2 key, or by clicking on the item for an extended period of time, then releasing. Properties. Selecting the Properties command displays information about a selected item or items, including its associated program icon, location, size, and the time and date it was last modified. To close, click OK or Cancel. (This command is also available by clicking on an item with the right mouse button to display the pop-up shortcut menu.) Open. This command opens a selected file using the associated program. For example, if the selected file has the file extension.doc (a Microsoft Word file) and Microsoft Word is installed on your computer, FTP Pro will launch Microsoft Word and open the file. (This command is also available by clicking on a file or folder with the right mouse button to display the pop-up shortcut menu.) (This also clears any information retained using the Save Quick Connect Session feature.)

40 ICE.TCP PLUS FTP Pro To connect to the site, click the Connect button. Using the FTP Site Profile Manager The FTP Site Profile Manager provides a convenient way to organize and connect to FTP sites. It enables you to access FTP sites using site profiles, which contain detailed connection and configuration information for each site. By default, FTP Pro displays the FTP Site Profile Manager when it runs. (This default can be changed by selecting View > Options and clicking the tab for General settings.) The FTP Site Profile Manager can also be opened by selecting File > New > Session. When the FTP Site Profile Manager opens, a directory tree of folders and FTP site profiles is displayed to the left. When a site profile is selected, the information included in the profile is displayed to the right. The FTP Site Profile Manager comes pre-configured with profiles for many publicly-accessible Internet sites. You can add your own site profiles, creating folders for profiles, even folders within folders, in a way similar to the way files and folders are managed in Windows Explorer. To delete a folder or site profile, click to select it, then click the Delete button (or hit the DELETE key). When a folder is deleted, all folders and site profiles within it are also deleted. Editing Site Profiles Site profiles can be configured to include not only connection information, but more advanced features such as file filters and folder shortcuts. To edit site profiles, select Edit > Site Profiles to open the FTP Site Profile Editor. The Editor is the same as the Site Profile Manager, but does not allow you to connect to a site. When you finish editing, click the Close button to save changes and exit. To edit a specific site profile, click to select it (from the directory tree on the left). The information included in the site profile is displayed to the right. To

42 ICE.TCP PLUS FTP Pro access advanced settings, click the Advanced button. To configure file filters or folder shortcuts for the profile, click the Filter or Shortcut button. Name. Enter a name for the site profile. Choose a name that is unique to the folder and will help you identify the site. This field requires an entry. Description. Enter a description of the site profile providing additional information to help identify it. This field is optional. FTP Site. Enter the address of the FTP site. A valid FTP site address can be a hostname (ftp.jriver.com) or an IP address ( ). The FTP Site field requires an entry. You cannot connect to an FTP site without entering an FTP site address. Available on Tool Bar. Activating this checkbox makes the FTP site profile available for quick access on the tool bar (listed in the FTP Site combobox). Default Directory. Enter the directory (folder) to access on the remote machine. During the session, this directory becomes the highest level in the directory tree. You cannot navigate higher than this directory. NOTE: On some NT-, Windows-, or DOS-based servers, you might want to access a disk drive other than the default. The procedure for doing this depends on the FTP server. Some servers, such as Serv-U FTP Server expect a drive to be specified as /c:/ (for drive C) or /d:/ (for drive D). Others allow you to use c:\ or d:\. The same conditions apply to folder shortcuts. Anonymous Login. Activating the Anonymous Login checkbox enables the FTP site to be accessed without a user ID or password. Because anonymous login is granted by the FTP server, its availability depends on the site you re connecting to. When Anonymous Login is activated, the User ID, Password, and Save Password parameters are not available. User ID. To log in to an FTP site automatically, enter your user ID here. This feature is not available when Anonymous Login is activated.

43 Password. To log in to an FTP site automatically, enter your password here. This feature is not available when Anonymous Login is activated. Save Password. Activating this checkbox tells FTP Pro to remember your password between connections. When Save Password is activated, you will not be required to enter your password to connect to an FTP site. When it s deactivated, you will be required to enter your password to connect. ICE.TCP PLUS Advanced FTP Site Information Clicking the Advanced button in the FTP Site Profiles Manager/Editor displays the Advanced Site Settings dialog box, which includes the following settings: FTP Pro PASV Mode. When this checkbox is activated, FTP Pro uses PASV Mode for the selected FTP site. NOTE: When the global command for PASV Mode is activated (select View > Options and click the Connection tab), the site profile setting is ignored (unless the Bypass Proxy Server for This Session checkbox is activated). Hide Files and Folders that Start with a Period. When this checkbox is activated, filenames and folder names that start with a period are not displayed in FTP Pro. (UNIX regards filenames that start with. as hidden files.) Keep Server File Time on Downloaded Files. Activating this checkbox (the default) retains the date and time of downloaded files. (FTP usually assigns downloaded files the current date and time of the local computer. Activating this option keeps the date and time of the local computer hidden from the FTP server.) When the checkbox is deactivated, downloaded files are assigned dates and times from the local computer. Convert UNIX Files without Years (Convert Future File Dates). UNIX systems normally don t provide a year for files less than six months old. This can cause problems for an FTP client because a file without a year defined is assigned the current year, which could make it appear to have been written in the future.

44 ICE.TCP PLUS FTP Pro When this checkbox is activated (the default), a past date is assigned to files that otherwise would appear with future dates (usually the correct assumption). If you have files that are dated in the future, this option may not be appropriate; however, for almost all users the option should be activated. Convert GMT to Local Time for Anonymous Connection. When this checkbox is activated (the default), server dates and times are converted to your local date and time when you connect to an anonymous site. Many FTP Servers convert file times to GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) for anonymous connections, giving clients the opportunity to display file dates and times according to local time. Bypass Proxy Server for This Session. FTP Pro allows you to specify a single proxy server (for Internet access). However, because many users need to also connect to internal FTP sites (without accessing the Internet), activating this checkbox bypasses the proxy server and connects directly. If you re creating a site profile for an internal network and you use a proxy server to access the Internet, select this option. Automatic ASCII Transfer Mode. Activating this checkbox automatically switches FTP Pro from binary transfer mode to ASCII transfer mode when transferring a file with a specified extension (as listed in the File Types window under View > Options). The setting here is ignored when ASCII Transfer Mode is selected (Tools > ASCII Mode) during an FTP Pro session. Thorough UNIX Link Resolution. UNIX links are handy for UNIX users and system administrators, but can cause problems for FTP clients such as FTP Pro. When this checkbox is activated, FTP Pro attempts to change the directory based on the link it detects: if successful, it assumes the item is a folder; if unsuccessful, it assumes the item is a file. When the checkbox is deactivated (the default), FTP Pro tests the link to find out whether its name includes an extension: if no extension exists, it s regarded as a folder; if an extension exists, it s regarded as a file. Activating Thorough UNIX Link Resolution reduces speed. Convert Upload File Names To. When uploading files to an FTP server, this setting controls how filenames are converted: Don t Convert leaves filenames

45 unchanged, Lower Case converts filenames to all lowercase letters, Upper Case converts filenames to all uppercase letters, and All Upper to Lower converts filenames that are all uppercase letters to all lowercase letters. Directory (Path) for Temporary Upload Files. A directory path entered here becomes the default directory for placing files opened (double-clicked) from within FTP Pro. If no directory is specified here, the Windows TEMP directory is used (usually C:\WINDOWS\TEMP or C:\TEMP). These files are not removed automatically when you are finished with them. They must be removed manually. ICE.TCP PLUS Port. Specify a port number to use for connections. A setting of 0 uses the default. FTP Pro Use Global List for Manual Get. When this checkbox is activated, the dropdown list in the Manual Get combobox is global (shareable across all site profiles). When the checkbox is deactivated, the drop-down list is site-specific. To save the above settings and return to the FTP Site Profile Manager/Editor, click the OK button. To exit the Advanced Site Settings dialog box without saving changes, click Cancel. File Filters Clicking the Filters button in the FTP Site Profiles Manager/Editor displays the File Filtering dialog box, where you can define inclusive and/or exclusive file filters for a site profile. Filenames entered when the Include tab is selected will be displayed (when available) in FTP Pro s File View windowpane. Filenames entered when the Exclude tab is selected will not be displayed. Wildcard characters (* and?) can be used to set up filters that will include or exclude certain file types. (The wildcard? represents any single character. The wildcard * represents a series of characters. Brackets ([ ]) can be used to enclose either/or characters.) For example, to display only Microsoft Word files, add the filter *.doc to the Include list. FTP Pro will display only files with Word s.doc extension.

46 ICE.TCP PLUS FTP Pro Here are some other examples of the use of wildcards in filters: *.html All files ending with the extension.html *.exe All files ending with the extension.exe?????.html Filenames containing exactly five characters followed by the extension.html [dd]efault.html Either the file default.html or Default.html To add a filter in either the Include or Exclude list, enter the filter in the edit field above the Add button, then click Add. The filter is displayed in the listbox to the left. To remove a filter, select it in the listbox, then click the Remove button. The Clear All button removes all filters. To save the filters and return to the FTP Site Profile Manager/Editor, click the OK button. To exit the File Filtering dialog box without saving changes, click Cancel. Folder Shortcuts Clicking the Shortcuts button in the FTP Site Profiles Manager/Editor displays the Folder Shortcuts dialog box, where you can create special, easily-accessible folders for sites. These folders appear as root folders when you connect to a site. They act like any real folder, but they don t actually exist in the site s default directory. Folder Shortcuts are useful for: Hidden Folders. By using a folder shortcut, you can easily see it and explore its contents. Buried Folders. When a folder is buried deep inside a directory structure, you can find it with one click instead of multiple clicks. Folders Outside the Default Directory. FTP Pro doesn t allow you to explore directories located above the default directory unless you use a folder shortcut. The Folder Shortcuts dialog box includes a listbox displaying the directory paths of the site profile s folder shortcuts.

47 To add a new path to the list, click the New button. Or, to edit an existing path, click on the list to select it, then click the Edit button. Clicking New or Edit opens a dialog box in which to enter a directory path and name for the folder shortcut: Path. Enter the directory path to the folder. On some NT- or Windows - based servers, you might want to access a disk drive other than the default. The procedure for doing this depends on the FTP server. Some servers, such as Serv-U FTP Server expect a drive to be specified as /c:/ (for drive C) or /d:/ (for drive D). Others allow you to use c:\ or d:\. The same conditions apply to the default directory. ICE.TCP PLUS FTP Pro Display Name. FTP Pro uses the name entered here as the folder shortcut name. FTP Pro automatically enters a name (based on the last field of the directory path). To use a different name, simply enter it. This is necessary if more than one path ends with the same name (for example, /pub/ftppro/upload and / pub/ftptree/upload). Unless you change them, FTP Pro assigns the name Upload for both. After entering the above information, click OK to save the changes and return to the main Folder Shortcuts dialog box. To exit without saving, click Cancel. To delete an existing path from the listbox, click on the list to select it, then click the Remove button. Insert Mode. Beneath the listbox is the Insert Mode combobox, which is used to select a mode for sorting mode. This setting determines how the folder shortcuts will appear when displayed in the directory tree (the left side of the FTP Pro window): Insert Sorted inserts folder shortcuts into the directory tree sorted, not ignoring case. Insert Sorted No Case inserts folder shortcuts into the directory tree sorted, ignoring case. Insert at the End inserts folder shortcuts at the end (bottom) of the directory tree.

48 ICE.TCP PLUS FTP Pro Insert at the Top inserts folder shortcuts at the beginning (top) of the directory tree. The Insert at the End and Insert at the Top selections keep folder shortcuts grouped together. To save the folder shortcuts and return to the FTP Site Profile Manager/Editor, click the OK button. To exit the Folder Shortcuts dialog box without saving changes, click Cancel. Downloading & Uploading Files with FTP Pro After accessing an FTP site using Quick Connect or the FTP Site Profile Manager, downloading and uploading files and folders is easy. Get and Put commands can be performed using the File Menu, the Tool Bar, or the pop-up shortcut menu. You can also download and upload files and folders by dragging and dropping to and from Windows Explorer. Downloading (Getting) Files and Folders To download (get) files and folders from an FTP site, access the site and select (highlight) the items you want to download from the FTP Pro window. You can select multiple items, including combinations of files and folders. To select a contiguous block of items, click on the first item in the block then click on the last item while holding down the SHIFT key. To select multiple, noncontiguous items, click on each item while holding down the CTRL key. Use the Edit > Select All command to select all items displayed in File View (the right pane of the FTP Pro window). After selecting items to download, select File > Get or click the Get icon on the Tool Bar. FTP Pro prompts you for a destination folder. As a shortcut, you can also download a file or folder by clicking on it with the right (auxiliary) mouse button and selecting Get from the pop-up shortcut menu.

49 Using Drag and Drop You can also download files and folders by dragging and dropping them from the FTP Pro window to Windows Explorer or the desktop. Just click on the selected item(s) and, while holding down the mouse button, drag to a folder in Windows Explorer or the desktop. Release the mouse button to download the item(s) from the FTP site. ICE.TCP PLUS Using Manual Get The Manual Get command lets you download a file manually by entering its directory path and filename. This option is useful when you know the location of a particular file or want to get a file that usually isn t displayed, such as a hidden file or a file within a hidden directory. FTP Pro Select Tools > Manual Get to display the Manual Get dialog box. For quick access, FTP Pro remembers the most recent entries, which are displayed in the drop-down list in the combobox. The maximum number of entries remembered is defined under General Options. If Use Global List is activated in the site profile (under Advanced settings), the drop-down list is a global list applied to all sites. If Use Global List is deactivated, the list used is specific to the current site profile. Manual Get is performed relative to the selected folder in the directory tree of FTP Pro. If you specify a slash (/), the folder is the root folder. If a slash is not specified, the default folder is the one selected in the directory tree. Uploading (Putting) Files and Folders To upload (put) files and folders to an FTP site, access the site and select (highlight) a destination folder. Select File > Put or click the Put icon on the Tool Bar. The command is also available by clicking on the destination folder with the right (auxiliary) mouse button to display the pop-up shortcut menu. FTP Pro displays a dialog box in which to select the file(s) or folder(s) to upload. The files transferred to the server keep their original file names. (This

50 ICE.TCP PLUS FTP Pro command is also available by clicking on the destination folder with the right (auxiliary) mouse button to display the pop-up shortcut menu.) Using Drag and Drop You can also upload files and folders by dragging and dropping them from Windows Explorer to the FTP Pro window. Just click on the selected item(s) in Explorer and, while holding down the mouse button, drag to FTP Pro. Release the mouse button to upload the item(s) to the FTP site. Searching for Files and Text FTP Pro allows you to search an FTP site for files and file descriptions. Use the Find Files command to search for files in the current folder (and subfolders). Find Files can be used to find, get (download), open, and view files. The Find Text command lets you search the current folder for files and file descriptions. Find Files To use the Find Files feature, select Tools > Find Files to display the Find Files dialog box. In the Find Files Named field enter the name of the file(s) to locate within the currently-selected folder. Wildcard characters (*?) can be used, for example: *.html Displays all files ending with the.html extension. *.exe Displays all files ending with the.exe extension.?????.html Displays five-character filenames ending with the.html extension. [dd]efault.html Displays a file named default.html or Default.html. Search Subfolders. Activating this checkbox expands the search to each subfolder in the selected folder. Search UNIX Links. When this checkbox is activated, FTP Pro searches for UNIX symbolic links that link to folders.

51 Ignore Case. When this checkbox is activated, the search ignores the case (uppercase and lowercase characters) of filenames. To begin a search, click the Find Now button. Clicking the Stop button stops a search. Results of the search (the files found) are listed under Search Results. To download (get) a file from the list, select it and click the Get button. Clicking the View button lets you view the selected file using your designated viewer. Clicking the Open button will attempt to open the selected file, running the application associated with the file ICE.TCP PLUS To exit the Find Files dialog box, click the Close button. FTP Pro Find Text To use the Find Text feature, select Edit > Find Text to display the Find Text dialog box. Enter a filename or file description to locate within the currentlyselected folder. Ignore Case. When this checkbox is activated, the search ignores the case (uppercase and lowercase characters) of filenames. Include Descriptions. When this checkbox is activated, the search includes file descriptions (if FTP Pro is configured to read file descriptions). To begin a search, click the OK button. To repeat a search, click Find Next. FTP Pro Options FTP Pro lets you customize many settings using the Options dialog box. To open it, select View > Options. The Options dialog box lets you switch between different groups of settings by clicking tabs. The following groups of settings are available: General, Connection, File Types, File Transfer, Description Files, Tool Bar, and List. The specific settings for each tab selection are described below.

Viewer. Use this option to specify a file viewer for the File > View command. (If necessary, use the Browse button to find and select a viewer.)

53 Max Manual Get Entries. This determines the maximum number of entries FTP Pro will retain in the Manual Get dialog box. The range of values is The default value is 10. Connection Options Internet Access Type. The setting selected from this combobox determines how FTP Pro accesses the Internet. The following options are available: Direct Internet Access (the default) accesses the Internet directly without going through a proxy server. Use this option to access internal FTP sites. Or, if you access both the Internet and are required to go through a proxy, use the Advanced options for your site. CERN Proxy Access uses the proxy server specified in the Proxy Name field. Pre-Config Access accesses FTP sites in the same way as Microsoft Internet Explorer. UserID = userid@site uses the proxy server specified. However, when connecting to a site, use the proxy server for the site name and create a user id userid@site for the user ID. For example, if connecting through a proxy server to Microsoft, the site used would be your proxy server and the user ID, automatically generated by FTP Pro, would be [email protected]. In anonymous mode, the password would be FtpPro@ With this mode, you may also specify a password for the proxy server (if your proxy server requires a password). ICE.TCP PLUS FTP Pro Proxy Name. When using a proxy server, enter the proxy server name here. Proxy Server Password. If you select the UserID = userid@site Internet access option, you can enter a password for your proxy server. If the field is left blank, no password is used. (The format used for the FTP site is <proxy name>:<proxy password>. FTP Pro automatically performs this. PASV Mode. When this checkbox is activated, FTP Pro always uses PASV mode when connecting to an FTP site, regardless of the site setting. If the site bypasses using the proxy, the PASV mode specified for the site is used.

54 ICE.TCP PLUS FTP Pro Port Number. Enter a port number to use as a default for all FTP sites. Any number other than 0 entered here is used as the port number for all sites. If the entry here is 0, the port settings used in site profiles will override it. Connection Time-Out. This value (in seconds) determines how much time FTP Pro will allow for Internet connection requests before cancelling ( timing out ). The default is 61 seconds. Connection Retries. This value determines how many Internet connection requests FTP Pro will attempt before cancelling. The default is one. Send Time-out. This value (in seconds) determines how much time FTP Pro will allow for data send requests before cancelling ( timing out ). The default is 61 seconds. Receive Time-out. This value (in seconds) determines how much time FTP Pro will allow for data receive requests before cancelling ( timing out ). The default is 61 seconds. Connection Attempts. This value determines how many times FTP Pro will attempt to establish a connection when an FTP site is busy (a useful feature for active sites). The range of values is The default is 10. File Types File extensions entered here are regarded as ASCII text files by FTP Pro. When files ending with a specified extension are transferred, FTP Pro automatically uses ASCII transfer mode. File extensions are displayed in the listbox. To add a new extension, enter it (with or without a period) in the field above the Add button, then click Add. To remove a file extension, click to select it from the list, then click the Remove button.

55 File Transfer Options File Transfer Options determine how many times FTP Pro will attempt to download or upload a file. Because it s not unusual for connections to fail, especially over the Internet, these options provide for additional file transfer attempts when errors are encountered. Get File Tries. This value determines the number of times FTP Pro will attempt to get (download) a file. The available range is The default value is 3, which means FTP Pro will attempt to get a file three times before displaying an error message. When a value greater than 1 is used, FTP Pro displays the attempt number in the Status dialog box. Put File Tries. This value determines the number of times FTP Pro will attempt to put (upload) a file. The available range is The default value is 3, which means FTP Pro will attempt to put a file three times before displaying an error message. When a value greater than 1 is used, FTP Pro displays the attempt number in the Status dialog box. ICE.TCP PLUS FTP Pro Description File Options FTP Pro supports description file or index file loading. Description files are files that some FTP sites place in folders to help identify the content of files and folders. Most index files are named 00index.txt or 00_index.txt. FTP Pro can read these files and place a description next to each file and folder displayed. Nothing is displayed for files and folders that have no description. FTP Pro implements this feature efficiently. FTP Pro finds the index file when a folder is opened. It then starts a thread (a background task) to read the file, filling in descriptions as they re read from the file. This normally takes relatively little CPU power, but requires some bandwidth. You can turn this feature off if you need to maximize the efficiency of data transfer. FTP Pro comes pre-configured with many default description files. If you encounter one that was not included, it can be added to the list. Enter the name

56 ICE.TCP PLUS FTP Pro and wildcard character(s) in the file field located just above the Add button, then click Add. To remove a file description entry, click to select it from the list, then click the Remove button. Disable this Feature. When this checkbox is activated, FTP Pro ignores description files. Maximum Description File Size. This entry determines the maximum number of bytes FTP Pro will allow for a description file. When the size of the description file exceeds the value entered here, a prompt asks if you want to read the file anyway. Tool Bar Options Tool Bar Options allow you to customize the Tool Bar by adding, removing, and rearranging icons. It also displays a checkbox for activating/deactivating the Tool Bar s drop-down site profile list. To customize the Tool Bar, click Buttons to open a Customize Tool Bar window. Active command icons are displayed on the right and inactive command icons are displayed on the left. To add an icon to the Tool Bar, click to select the icon (from the inactive list on the left), then click the Add button. The icon is moved from the inactive list to the active list. To remove an icon from the Tool Bar, click to select the icon (from the active list on the right), then click the Remove button. The icon is moved from the active list to the inactive list. You can also use the list on the right to rearrange the order of icons on the Tool Bar. Select an icon and click the Move Up or Move Down button to change its position. Or rearrange icons by dragging and dropping them within the list. Spacer icons called Separators can be added (from the list on the left) to help you group icons on the Tool Bar.

57 Click Close to save the changes and exit the window. Click Reset to restore the Tool Bar setup that existed prior to opening the window. Enable Site List. Activating this checkbox (the default) enables the FTP Site Profile drop-down list available on the Tool Bar. ICE.TCP PLUS List Options This group of settings allows you to customize File View (the right windowpane) in FTP Pro. File View displays files and folders within the folder selected in the directory tree in the left windowpane. FTP Pro NOTE: Some options are not supported by all versions of Windows 9x/200x/ XP/Vista. If options such as Gridlines, Track Select, Header Drag and Drop, and Full Row Select do not work, your version of Windows probably does not support this extended capability. Extended List Options. This set of four checkboxes allows you to customize File View (available only while viewing files in Details mode): Gridlines. Activating this checkbox places grid lines (dividers) between all items. When selected, faint lines appear between files and folders. Track Select. Activating this checkbox moves a tracker or changes the color of a file or folder when the mouse pointer moves over it. Holding the mouse over the file or folder without clicking on it selects the item. Header Drag and Drop. Activating this checkbox allows you to drag and drop columns. For example, to move the Modified Date column to the left of the Size column, click and drag Modified Date to the new location, then release. Column positions are saved between sessions. Full Row Select. When this checkbox is activated, an entry is selected when any of the contents of the row is selected. For example, instead of clicking on the name of a file of folder to select it, click on any of the information displayed with the file or folder.

Selecting this option underlines an item after one click. Double-clicking on the file or folder opens it. See the Activate Action setting below. This is an extended option. Activate Action. This setting determines what FTP Pro does with a file when it is activated (using one of the modes described above). To only select (highlight) the file, select None. To open the file, select Open. To get the file and place it in a selected directory, select Get. To open the file with WordPad or another selected Viewer, select View.

59 ICElp Printing ICElp provides bi-directional printing for Windows 9x/200x/XP/Vista. ICElp s PC Print feature allows a Windows printer connected to a PC workstation to act as a spooled printing device on the UNIX system. ICElp s UNIX Host Print feature allows any Windows application running on a PC to print transparently to any UNIX printer. This chapter also includes information on using Local Print, which uses escape sequences to print from a UNIX application to a printer connected to a PC workstation. Configuring ICElp ICElp requires the icelpd program to be properly installed and configured on the UNIX host. You must also set up printer interface files for the UNIX spooling system to use. For PC Print (printing from UNIX applications to Windows printers ), the interface files icelp.scr and icelp1.scr are provided; icelp1.scr (recommended) includes command options for defining whether to transfer print jobs as binary or text. For UNIX Host Print (printing from Windows applications to UNIX printers), use a dumb interface file to prevent print jobs from being formatted twice. After setting up the printer interface files on UNIX, run ICElp to configure the Windows printer(s) for PC Print and UNIX printer(s) for Host Print. ICE.TCP PLUS ICElp If you re using an AIX system, refer to your AIX manual (although you may wish to review this section for insight into how ICElp works).

60 ICE.TCP PLUS ICElp UNIX Installation To install and configure ICElp, you must first copy the UNIX program file icelpd and a printer interface file either icelp.scr or icelp1.scr from the ICE.TCP PLUS CD to the UNIX host. For SCO UNIX, copy icelp1.scr to /var/spool/lp/model. For Unixware, copy icelp1.scr to to the Printer Interfaces directory. Give icelp1.scr 777 permissions. It may be necessary to copy the files from the ICE.TCP PLUS CD to a floppy disk for transfer to UNIX. Or, if a UNIX floppy drive isn t available, copy the files from the ICE.TCP PLUS CD to UNIX using the file transfer program FTP-Win. IMPORTANT: The program file icelpd and interface file icelp1.scr are binary files. The interface file icelp.scr is a text file. Be sure to copy them accordingly (using the appropriate command options in UNIX). NOTE: For UNIX 3.2, SVR4 (not SCO UNIX) or UnixWare, substitute the file icelpd.unx for icelpd. This file was compiled on Interactive 386/ix. It works on SVR4 and should work on other Intel Based System V. Before installing, rename the icelpd.unx file icelpd. Place the program file icelpd in the /usr/bin directory on UNIX. Each user s path should include /usr/bin. The interface file, icelp.scr or icelp1.scr, is copied into the UNIX directory containing printer models and/or interfaces. After copying the files, make the program file icelpd executable, usually by entering the command chmod 777 icelpd (while logged in to the /usr/bin directory). To test whether the program file is executable, enter the command icelpd c from a UNIX prompt. The command should display a copyright message. If the message doesn t appear, you may have transferred the file as text rather than binary. Check to see whether the installed file is the same size as the corresponding file on the ICE.TCP PLUS CD. If it isn t, it s been transferred incorrectly.

61 Modifying the UNIX TCP/IP to Add Printing Capability Log into the /etc directory and make backup copies of the inetd.conf and services files. Using the vi text editor, add the following line to inetd.conf (fields are separated by tabs): icelpd stream tcp nowait root /usr/bin/icelpd icelpd If you have SCO TCP/IP version 1.2, replace root in the preceding line with NOLUID and uncomment the following line in inetd.conf by removing the pound sign (#): #tftp dgram udp wait nouser /etc/tftpd tftpd After making the above changes, save the inetd.conf file. Using the vi text editor, add the following line to the services file (fields are separated by tabs): icelpd 2346/tcp #icelpd server After adding the above line, save the services file. Reboot the UNIX system or restart TCP/IP on UNIX so the changes are recognized by your UNIX TCP/IP. ICE.TCP PLUS NOTE (AIX): When updating the /etc/inetd.conf and /etc/services directories on AIX, we recommend that you use SMIT (under Server Services). If you don t use SMIT that is, if you update the directories manually you must run inetimp afterward. For more information on inetimp, see your AIX documentation. NOTE (SUN O/S 4.x.x and NIS): In addition to making the changes to /etc/inetd.conf and /etc/services as described above, you must run SUN s mkservices command (located in the /var/yp directory) to read the services file information into the NIS database. ICElp

62 ICE.TCP PLUS ICElp Setting Up the Interface File for PC Print After copying icelp1.scr (or icelp.scr) to UNIX, you must designate it as a UNIX spooler interface file for transferring print jobs from UNIX applications to the Windows printer(s). The following procedure is for SCO UNIX, but can be adapted easily to other systems. You may need to change both the group and the owner of the printer interface to whatever your print spooler is using (usually lp). Run SCOADMIN and choose Printers > Print Manager. Then, from the Printer menu, select Add Local. Fill in the name (for example, bobl for bob local). Fill in Comment or Class information (optional), then choose Interface or Model to be used. (For example, SCO Openserver 5 requires the icelp1.scr script file from the /var/spool/lp/model directory.) Finally, choose Direct and designate /dev/null as the device. Exit SCOADMIN. Setting Up a Dumb Interface File for UNIX Host Print You also must set up a printer interface file that will enable the UNIX spooling system to transfer already-formatted print jobs from Windows applications to the UNIX printer(s) without formatting them again. We recommend using the interface file dumb, which is standard in UNIX. The following procedure is for SCO UNIX but can be adapted easily to other systems. You may need to change both the group and the owners of the printer interface to whatever your print spooler is using. Run SCOADMIN and choose Printers > Print Manager. Then, from the Printer menu, select Add Local. Fill in the name (for example, bobl for bob local). Fill in Comment or Class information (optional), then choose New interface file. Enter dumb as name of the interface file. Next, choose Direct and designate your printer device (for example, /dev/lp0). Exit SCOADMIN. This completes the UNIX installation. Before using ICElp, however, you must configure printers on each PC workstation.

63 Configuring Printers on the PC Workstation To configure printers for use with ICElp s PC Print and UNIX Host Print, use the configuration program iceconfig. (see page 4.) NOTE: To change settings later, run ICElp and click on its minimized icon on the Task Bar with the right (auxiliary) mouse button. From the pop-menu, select Configure ICElp to display the ICElp Config dialog box. Click the PC Print tab to access PC Print settings and the Host Print tab to access UNIX Host Print settings. When you finish configuring printers, click OK to save the settings and exit or click Apply to save without exiting. To exit without saving changes, click Cancel. Configuring Printers for PC Print You can select up to three UNIX printers for use with ICElp s PC Print. In the PC Print Services window, click Add to configure Printer #1. Installed Windows printers are listed under Printer Device. Select the printer you want to configure for ICElp by clicking on it. If the printer you want isn t listed, you will need to install it in Windows. Consult your Windows manual. ICE.TCP PLUS The printer you selected should appear in the Printer Device box. You must now configure it by defining the following parameters: UNIX Printer Name: Enter the case sensitive name of your UNIX printer (the same name you used in SCOADMIN above). ICElp UNIX Host Address: Enter the IP address of the UNIX host (the one running the icelpd deamon).

64 ICE.TCP PLUS ICElp Socket Number: Enter the socket number the UNIX icelpd program is installed under. This must be UNIX Spooler Directory: Enter /usr/tmp. To configure additional UNIXto-Windows printers for ICElp, click Add and follow the same procedure, clicking Printer #2 and Figure 9 PC Print Settings (ICE.Config) Printer #3 and defining the above parameters for each. You can select up to three printers. To remove an already-configured printer, click on Printer #1, Printer #2, or Printer #3 to select it, then click Delete. To change settings for an already-configured printer, click to highlight it. To activate PC Print, click the Enable PC Print checkbox. Configuring Printers for UNIX Host Print You can configure up to three UNIX printers for use with ICElp s UNIX Host Print. In the UNIX Host Print Setup window, click Add to configure a UNIX printer (HOSTP1). You must define three configuration parameters: UNIX Host Internet Address: Enter the IP address of the UNIX host where icelpd is installed. Socket number: Enter the socket number the UNIX icelpd program is installed under. This must be UNIX Command Line: Enter the printer ( spooler ) string ICElp will send to UNIX for example, lp -dlaser.

65 To configure additional UNIX printers for ICElp, click Add and follow the same procedure, clicking HOSTP2 and HOSTP3 and defining the above parameters for each. (When you add a new printer, don t forget to install an appropriate printer driver and define a port connection using the Control Panel in Windows Program Manager see below.) Figure 10 UNIX Host Print Settings (ICE.Config) To remove an alreadyconfigured printer, click on HOSTP1, HOSTP2, or HOSTP3 to select it, then click Delete. To change settings for an already-configured printer, click to highlight it. To activate UNIX Host Print, click the Enable UNIX Host Print checkbox. Designate the UNIX Printer in Windows. Before using UNIX Host Print, you must use the Control Panel in Windows Program Manager to set up and select the UNIX printer, just as you would any other Windows printer. To make sure documents are correctly formatted for the UNIX printer, you must designate a printer driver for the UNIX printer. (For example, if your UNIX printer is an HP LaserJet, you would choose the LaserJet driver in Windows.) You must also associate the driver with the appropriate port (for example, C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\HOSTP\ICELP). ICE.TCP PLUS ICElp Other ICElp Settings The ICElp Config dialog box also lets you define the following settings: Show Status Message: When this option is activated, ICElp displays a transfer status message box that reports the print job number, transfer status, current byte count, and total byte count of the transfer. Although used

66 ICE.TCP PLUS ICElp primarily for debugging, this option can also be used to let a Windows user know when a print job is moving through the PC. Delete on Cancel: When this option is activated, ICElp deletes the print job on UNIX when you click the Cancel button in the transfer status box. Otherwise, when you click the Cancel button, the print job remains queued for the next polling of ICElp. Command Timeout: When the print stream from Windows ends, this setting defines the number of seconds ICElp will wait before sending the print job to UNIX. The default is 5. Print Request Period: This setting defines the polling period, how frequently ICElp polls UNIX or Windows for print jobs. For example, the default 4 tells ICElp to poll for print jobs every four minutes. (When ICElp is running, you can poll manually by clicking once on the active ICElp icon in Windows and selecting Poll from the menu that appears, or by double-clicking on the active ICElp icon.) Printing with ICElp To use ICElp s PC Print or UNIX Host Print, run ICElp using the Windows 9x/ 200x/XP/Vista Start command or double-clicking the ICElp icon. In DejaWinT, you can run ICElp by clicking the ICElp icon on the Tool Bar. ICElp can be set up to run automatically by placing a command shortcut in the Windows Startup directory. (See your Windows manual for more information). When ICElp is running, its minimized icon is displayed. To check the current status of ICElp active print jobs, settings, etc. click on the icon with the right mouse button and select Settings from the pop-up menu. Using PC Print You can use ICElp to print from UNIX applications to a designated Windows printer on the PC workstation just as you would print to a UNIX spooled printer.

67 When you print from UNIX to a Windows printer, the print job is queued in an icelp_jobs directory under /usr/tmp with a name that corresponds to the name of the printer. When a print job is completed, ICElp deletes the file. Even if you aren t in Windows (or aren t running ICElp), print jobs will queue up and wait until they re picked up. You can direct ICElp to pick up the print job immediately (manual polling) by clicking once on the active ICElp icon and selecting Poll from the menu that appears, or by double-clicking on the active ICElp icon. If you have used icelp1.scr as the printer interface file for PC Print, two additional lp command options are available: -oa The -oa ( auto ) command option directs the program to try to determine automatically whether the print job is text or binary and, if it s text, it will perform the necessary carriage return and line feed conversions. (This option will not work with Postscript files.) -ot The -ot ( text ) command option forces carriage return and line feed conversions. ICE.TCP PLUS For example, to print with the auto command option, use the command lp -d printername -c -oa file where printername is the name of the printer and file is the file to be printed. If no command option is used, the file transfer will be binary. ICElp If PC Print doesn t work, check its configuration to make sure it has been activated.

68 ICE.TCP PLUS ICElp Using UNIX Host Print When you want to print from a Windows application to a UNIX printer, select the Windows printer designated as the ICE.TCP Host Printer. The print job is queued in a temporary directory (set using the TEMP environment variable). ICElp stores the print job in a subdirectory corresponding to the UNIX printer you have designated HOSTP1, HOSTP2, or HOSTP3 until it can be moved to UNIX for spooling. You can direct ICElp to move the print job immediately (manual polling) by clicking once on the active ICElp icon and selecting Poll from the menu that appears, or by double-clicking on the active ICElp icon. If UNIX Host Print doesn t work, check its configuration to make sure it has been activated. Local Print (UNIX Application to PC Printer) While using ICE.TCP PLUS to access UNIX, you can use Local Print to print from a UNIX application to a printer connected to the PC workstation. Local Print is triggered by a beginning escape sequence sent from the UNIX side. Subsequent characters are sent to the printer until a termination escape sequence is sent. Local Print responds to the following escape sequences: Wyse 60/Wyse 160 Begin Local Print: ESC d# End Local Print: CTRL T ANSI, VT102, VT220, AT386, AT&T605, LINUX Begin Local Print: ESC [5i End Local Print: ESC [4i

69 IBM 3151 Begin Local Print: CTRL P CTRL R End Local Print: CTRL P CTRL T Testing Local Print Most applications that support Local Print will let you enter the beginning and ending escape sequences. To verify that Local Print is working correctly, first test it at a system prompt. Create a file called lpf by using vi or another editor (cat >lpf will also work; end with a CTRL+d). The echo statements echo the escape sequences given above. Use the name lpf as a filename. Wyse 60/Wyse 160 lpf file: echo \033d#\c cat $1 echo \024\c ANSI, VT102, VT220, AT386, AT&T605, LINUX lpf file: echo \033[5i\c cat $1 echo \033[4i\c ICE.TCP PLUS IBM 3151 lpf file: echo \020\022\c cat $1 echo \020\024\c ICElp Use chmod to make the file executable (chmod 755 lpf). Then, at a UNIX system prompt, enter./lpf lpf. This should cat the file lpf to the printer connected to the parallel port of the PC.

70 ICE.TCP Plus Network Toolbox If the test works, you need to set up Local Print to work with the UNIX application using a script file, UNIX spooler, or other method.

71 Network Toolbox Network Toolbox for Windows 9x/200x/XP/Vista is an integrated suite of 10 TCP/IP network utilities: Ping, Traceroute, IP Address Search, Port Scanner, Finger, Whois, DNS Lookup, Quote, Time Sync, and Winsock Information. Enter a hostname or IP address of the remote host in the field provided.

78 ICE.TCP Plus Network Toolbox Whois The Whois information base is a service provided by the Internet registration authority InterNIC. Use it to obtain information about registered Internet domains and their respective owners and contacts (both administrative and technical). Whois is helpful when you are trying to locate information about a particular domain or determine whether a potential domain name already exists. Enter a domain name in the Query combobox and click OK. Whois will display registration information for the domain name (if it exists). Doubleclicking on a query reply displays more detailed information about the domain name. Whois Options Cache Whois Information. When this checkbox is activated, Whois retains data from the domain name query, allowing you to obtain additional information about the domain name (by double-clicking) more quickly. This option is deactivated by default. Use Long Output Format. When this checkbox is activated, reports displayed include additional information. This option is deactivated by default. Whois Server Name. Use this combobox to select a default Whois server. DNS Lookup A Domain Name Service (DNS) query obtains the IP address of a host by entering its hostname or, conversely, obtains its hostname by entering its IP address. For example, when you enter the IP address in the combobox and click OK, the hostname is displayed. When you enter and click OK, the IP address is displayed.

79 Quote Quote queries a selected Cookie server, which responds with an entertaining quote (otherwise known as a fortune cookie) each time you contact it. Enter the hostname or IP address of the Cookie server in the combobox and click OK. The quote (if available) is displayed in the window. No other options are available with the Quote utility. ICE.TCP PLUS Time Sync The Time Sync utility synchronizes the Windows 9x/200x/XP/Vista system clock with the National Institute of Standards and Technology atomic clock. (The NIST server is displayed by default in the Time Sync server field.) Click the Time Sync button to synchronize the PC s clock. You can run Time Sync from Network Toolbox or execute it independently using the Time Sync icon in the Network Toolbox folder. If your computer is permanently connected to a network, you can create a shortcut to the Time Sync icon and place it in your Windows Program/Startup folder so that the clock is synchronized each time you start your PC. Network Toolbox The Time Sync utility includes no other options. Winsock Information The Winsock Information utility obtains complete information about the Windows 9x/200x/XP/Vista TCP/IP network stack, including the following: Description of the Windows Sockets Implementation is a description of the Windows Sockets implementation, including vendor identification. System Status is the relevant status or configuration information.

80 ICE.TCP PLUS Index Maximum Number of Sockets is the maximum number of sockets that a single process can open. The number may reflect the way the Windows Sockets DLL or the networking software was configured. Maximum UDP Datagram Size is the size, in bytes, of the largest UDP datagram that can be sent or received by a Windows Sockets application. If the implementation imposes no limit, the Maximum UDP Datagram Size is zero. Hostname of this Computer is the hostname of the local PC. IP Address of this Computer is the IP address of the local PC. Windows Network Computer Name is the Windows network name of the local PC.
