10 SNF Project Database (Submission of Lay summary & Keywords) 1) PIs are requested to submit a lay summary and keywords at the start of the project As the contents of the original grant application may differ from the granted version, the PI has to provide an up-dated lay summary and keywords before the money is transferred to his account. 2) PIs are requested to update this information as the project evolves To control point 1), we apply the following schematic procedure: SNF Project Database (Control procedure LS & Keywords) Decision of Funding Letter to PI incl. 11 SNF Project Database (Technical Facts) - developped in 2003 (300 MB, PA and mysnf each 5GB) - Webapplication:.NET 1.1, ASP.NET - Database: MS SQL Server Access: ADO.NET - daily update during night time with StoredProcedures projects included Persons (physical and legal) Programmes - use of database: about queries per year (entry page) (MS Explorer 56%, Opera 42 %, Firefox 1%, Others 1%) 3) Summary and Outlook 11

12 SNF Project Database (Summary & Outlook) - Simple but efficient project database - Easy access and handling - Export in common format (CERIF) possible Weaknesses/Limitations: - Only SNF project data -> ARAMIS is nationwide database that contains information about all public projects SNF exports its data also to ARAMIS - Better control of updates (summary) along lifetime of the projects in accordance of scientific reporting/partial installments - no clear user benefit ARAMIS Project Database ARAMIS: the information system for research + development in Switzerland With a resolution dated 21st August 1996, the Federal Council ordered the Federal Department of Home Affairs to establish a database for all research and development projects of the Swiss Confederation (ARAMIS information system). As a result, all departments involved in R+D, numbering approximately 50, were put under obligation to map their projects and contribute to the costs for operation and maintenance. andreas.mueller@sbf.admin.ch 12
