1 PHYSICIAN AFFILIATE GROUP OF NEW YORK (PAGNY) Physician Assistant position at Jacobi Medical Center, Bronx, NY in the Parasitology/Tropical Medicine Department. The PA promotes and maintains health by providing medical services under the supervision of a physician. This candidate must have exceptional organization and communication skills to coordinate care with other departments, services and hospitals. PA will perform, under the responsibility and supervision of a physician, diagnostic and therapeutic tasks to allow the physician to extend his/her services. Within the physician/pa relationship, PA may exercise autonomy in decision making within the constraints of appropriate experience and training. PA practice is centered on patient care and may include education, research and administrative activities. The job description is as follows but not limited to: Management of Parasitology/Tropical Medical Practice. Excellent administrative and organizational skills are a must to assist with managing of the Practice. In partnership with Attending, develop educational material on Tropical Medicine. Collaborate on research projects with attending and trainee. In collaboration with attending, publish articles or immigrant health and tropical medicine. Responsible for research project data entry and maintenance of the database. Assess patient health by interviewing patients; performing physical examinations; obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories. Contribute to physician's effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range patient care issues that must be addressed; providing information and commentary pertinent to deliberations; recommending options and courses of action; implementing physician directives. Write/call-in prescriptions with oversight of attending. Determine abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as MRIs, x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies; interpreting test results. Document patient care services by charting in patient and department records. Performs therapeutic procedures by administering injections and immunizations; managing wounds and infections. Provide continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans. Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols. Comply with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advise management on needed actions. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies. Develop health care team staff by providing information, educational opportunities, and experiential growth opportunities. Follow up with patient on all abnormal lab test results; as well as document results in database and chart. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Bilingual a plus. 2 INTERVENTIONAL PAIN MANAGEMENT PRACTICE Location: Brooklyn Heights, NY Full-time PA position, no call or weekends. Responsibilities: medically managing established patients, reviewing diagnostic exam results, writing scheduled prescriptions, reviewing effectiveness of interventional treatment and providing a plan for further treatment. BELLEVUE HOSPITAL CENTER Responsibilities: provision of clinical care to patients/clients on the General Internal Medicine Inpatient Units (including the short stay unit and rotations in the CCU), assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and referral of patients as appropriate, under the supervision of a designated Attending Physician, complying with all contractual obligations under the NYU School of Medicine Affiliation Contract with Bellevue Hospital Center and all other related duties as assigned. There are night and weekend responsibilities. Direct Patient Care: cover a service of patients (many of whom have cardiac diagnoses); see and clinically evaluate all patients on the PA service for coverage issues; take new admissions; present all new admissions and challenging coverage issues with attending; perform a full clinical evaluation on all new admissions within a few hours of admission; attend clinical rounds with attending on a daily basis via MYSIS (our electronic medical record), writes all appropriate medication orders; via MYSIS, orders all appropriate ancillary tests patients; review all pertinent lab and test results; perform all appropriate pre and post cardiac catheterization exams/studies as per Bellevue protocol; communicate with referral providers; complete all related duties as assigned. Documentation: write admission notes on new patients via MYSIS; write event notes for coverage issues; write discharge summaries on patients being discharged via MYSIS; complete all discharge prescriptions; complete sign-outs for new admissions and updates coverage sign-outs as needed. General Responsibilities: comply with applicable Regulations; participate in in-service education and continuing medical education (CME); comply with the credentialing and reappointment process; maintain license and certifications; comply with the timekeeping methodology set by your department; complete all training programs mandated by the Health and Hospitals Corporation; notify your Supervisor of all upcoming absences in a timely enough fashion so that coverage may be obtained. Skills and knowledge: demonstrate knowledge and ability for the provision of patient care; to function independently; develop and maintain interpersonal relationships with health care team. Education/Trainig/Experience: Bachelor or Master Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited school; 1-2 year experience as a Physician Assistant or recent graduate. Licensure/certification: New York State Physician Assistant license and certification; NCCPA Certificate; DEA Certificate. Preferred qualifications: language proficiency, Spanish, Mandarin or Cantanese is a strong plus. Computer skills: candidate will be trained on Computerized Patient Records System. The Physician Assistant is responsible for assisting in the delivery of health care for some of the most interesting and challenging acute and chronic pain patients. Under a physician s supervision, the PA is responsible for a broad range of medical services, including but not limited to: autonomously providing patient assessment, education, follow- up visits, and medication management. As designated by scope of practice guidelines, the supervising physician and his/her designee will be available at all times to the PA for consultation either in person, by telephone, or paging device. General Duties and Responsibilities (performed in an independent manner with minimal direction and supervision): obtains patient medical history and conducts physical examinations, conducts follow- up visits independently, consistent with the organization s Incident II guidelines. Develops medical care plans under physician supervision: implements treatment plans and periodically assesses medical needs and response to treatment. Relates all aspects of patient care to the supervising physician, including reviewing and discussing medical problems, diagnostic tests, and therapeutic procedures; or correlating measures employed by the supervising physician. Plays a major role in medication management and medication refill management. Initiates and monitors medications and treatment in accordance with the current standards of care. As such, the PA must recognize situations that require consultations with the supervising physician, and understand that medically unstable patients require immediate consultation with the supervising physician. The PA may prescribe medications in accordance with the jurisdictions guidelines and regulations from the Joint Boards of Nursing and Medicine and follow all statutes. Accordingly, the PA may prescribe schedule V, VI, III, and II drugs with the exception of: radioactive drugs, ophthalmic aminoglycosides, and ophthalmic steroids. Orders diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedure/studies as appropriate, to include, but not limited to: Performs approved clinical procedures after appropriate training, such as: Provides pre and post procedure education and counseling for all Patients undergoing invasive or non- invasive requirements. Takes primary call for the entire practice in rotation with all the providers (PAs, CRNPs, and physicians) throughout the year.

5 Maintains all licenses and certifications necessary to comply with all federal, state and local requirements. Familiarity with Medicare, TRICARE, and other commercial insurance coverage; as well as some knowledge of Patient E&M coding, billing, and claims. Understands, complies with, and enforces National Spine & Pain Centers (NSPC) policies, procedures, code of conduct, and OSHA and HIPAA privacy rules. Ensures staff understands and complies with NSPC policies, procedures, code of conduct, and OSHA and HIPAA privacy rules. May be asked to work in different/multiple office locations on a periodic or ongoing basis, depending on organization needs. Other duties as assigned. Educations/Experience/Knowledge: Graduate of an accredited physical therapy education program. One (1) year of clinical expertise in Pain Management is preferred.
