The PPL Brunner Island power plant delivers electricity to a small territory in Northern York County. The coal-fired plant employs more than 240 workers, and has the ability to generate enough electricity each year to power about 1 million typical homes. Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station, is located along the Susquehanna River in York County, and is co-owned by Exelon Generation and Public Service and Gas of New Jersey. Exelon Nuclear operates two of three units at Peach Bottom. Both units are boiling water reactors each capable of generating 1,140 MW of electricity. 30 Real Estate Northern York County: In the northern part of the county, Fairview Township has a heavy concentration on suburban neighborhoods, providing housing for those who work in and around Harrisburg. Options include old farms, small town dwellings, and even new developments. Greater York: Most of the County s population is located in the suburban areas around the City. You will find plenty of housing options, including single wooded lots, middle-class neighborhoods, and upscale communities. The townships and boroughs in this region have seen increased population and new development. Great examples are Manchester Township, Dallastown, and Red Lion. South Western York County: The South Western part of the county includes the Hanover area which is the County s second largest population center and a strong presence of retail and manufacturing industries. Hanover is a designated historic district, and also recently received its Main Street Designation from the Pennsylvania Downtown Center. Also in the region is Codorus State Park, a 3,500 acre park with boating, camping, swimming, and hiking. City of York: Downtown York offers a variety of urban living options from new condos, to lofts, to the fabulous 3 story brownstones. In downtown York, you can live, work, and play. South Eastern and South Central York County: Southern York County is the place to go for a rural and small town feel without sacrificing the career opportunities of a major metropolitan region. This area sits between York City and Baltimore, and people who live here enjoy an easy commute to both.
