1 FOCUS: WILDLIFE REHABILITATION & EDUCATION Environmental Fund for Arizona Educational Activities Menu Audubon Arizona Members of Audubon Arizona s staff offer presentations on a variety of topics related to wildlife conservation and connecting people with nature, including: Wildlife friendly urban living Gardening for birds and pollinators Bird conservation in Arizona Renewable energy development and its impact on wildlife habitat Conservation of critical habitats in Arizona The joys of birding Getting children into nature Nature deficit disorder The Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado Audubon Center offers a variety of family-friendly programs, including regular guided bird walks, a story time and a monthly program featuring non-releasable Arizona wildlife. Tours of the Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado Audubon Center, a nature education center that serves as the gateway to the 600- acre Río Salado Habitat Restoration Area, are available by appointment. Private group bird walks and nature walks are also available by appointment. Ongoing need for volunteers to assist with education programs and staff the reception/retail area at the Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado Audubon Center in Phoenix. In addition, from September through May, Audubon Arizona sponsors monthly habitat conservation work days in the Río Salado Habitat Restoration Area and beyond. AZ Wildlife Federation We can offer presentations on various topics related to wildlife and wildlife habitat issues impacting our state and larger geographic areas. Some of these issues include forest health, importance of wetlands and riparian areas, transportation planning and effective energy development and transmission challenges. On-the-ground habitat restoration projects such as fence modifications to improve wildlife access, maintenance of aspen exclosures to protect young seedlings from grazing. Assist in presentations at the Becoming An Outdoors Woman (BOW) programs which we sponsor several times a year. 1

2 Southwest Wildlife Cons. Center Liberty Wildlife Wild At Heart Presentations may be made on a broad range of wildlife topics, including Living with Wildlife, at the campaign workplace or at our facility. Liberty Wildlife publishes a monthly electronic newsletter, Nature News, a weekly blog, This Week at Liberty and Hoots, Howls, and Hollers. Our education team is prepared to give any number of wildlife presentations including booth settings at community or corporate events, classroom presentations, presentations for groups and gatherings interested in knowing more about our native wildlife. It can be specific to a species or encompassing all native animals. Educational presentations on Arizona birds of prey at the Wild At Heart facility, your workplace or at campaign events. During a tour of our facility, you may see bobcats, coyotes, mountain lions, black bear, beaver, and Mexican gray wolves. Facility or area Tours: Tours can be set up on an individual basis. Limited and by appointment only. Animal care, Vet tech, Veterinary, Food prep, Repairs & maintenance, Construction, Landscaping Daily Wildlife Care Wildlife Orphan Care Hotline Calls Rescue/Transport Guardians (events) For individuals, students, adults. Help to construct Burrowing Owl habitats throughout Arizona as needed, and more. Sonoran Audubon 2 Monthly interesting programs for members and guests from September through May each year. Bird watching trips. Bird counts/monitoring Important Bird Areas on Agua Fria National Monument and at Tres Rios. Education Committee and attendance at event to talk about

5 Mountains Ecology of the Sonoran Desert FOCUS: NATIVE PLANTS Arboretum at Flagstaff Please contact Steve Yoder, Executive Director, at (928) x109 for information about presentations to your group, either at your workplace or at The Arboretum. The Arboretum is open daily from April through October. For a fee, individuals can visit on their own and employee groups can arrange for a group tour. The Arboretum can coordinate projects for groups of employees to assist in the care of our gardens and greenhouses. Desert Botanical Garden Contact Contact Contact AZ Native Plant Society Each chapter also has speakers at their monthly meetings through the season (which varies depending upon the chapter). Anyone is welcome to come to those events. None of the chapters has an office. Meeting places are announced in the newsletter, in e-lists, and often in calendars and local media. This is an all volunteer society. We welcome members of the public to join us in field activities and chapter meetings. We conduct and partner on invasive weed pulls, restoration efforts, native plant design and plantings, and citizen science concerning native plant surveys. We also offer workshops on particular topics of interest regarding native plants. These can be at the chapter level, or in partnership with other nonprofits or agencies. 6 tests, organize research materials including photos, slides and data entry. Distribution Store on Ft. Lowell (Tucson): Volunteers are needed to assist customers, stock shelves, package beans cornmeal and chiles, prepare mail orders, answer phones, and filing/clerical work. Conservation Farm (Patagonia). (Mon-Fri only) Volunteers are needed to help weed, plant and harvest (duties vary depending on time of year). Volunteers available for a 6 am 4 pm day may be able to ride with staff to the Farm. Promotion, Education, Administration (Tucson) (mostly Mon-Fri; events as needed) Volunteers can help with bulk mailings, filing/clerical work, technical skills, errand running, presentations, handy-work, copy editing, photography, cataloging/archiving, research, events, and farmers markets. FOCUS: RECYCLING AZ Recycling Coalition Presentations regarding the Contact Arizona Recycling Coalition can be 6

7 arranged at your place of business. FOCUS: EDUCATION Museum of Northern AZ Various presentations available. Various tours available. Many opportunities to serve including: visitor services, museum shop & bookstore, public programs & events, docent program, education, and Willow Bend Environmental Education Center Join Willow Bend s Director, Sapna Sopori, for many informative, hands-on learning sessions! Each program is geared towards adult audiences interested in learning more about northern Arizona s unique natural history, including geology, hydrology, botany, and more. You can also choose to emphasize our community s sustainable living aspects, from the 3 R s to alternative building methods. Join us for a tour of how we walk the talk with our passive-solar building, BioBug, rainwater harvesting system, low-impact design gardens, native crop gardens, and more! marketing.
