2 Context The environment has no respect for national boundaries: natural habitats and weather patterns often spread across several regions or several countries. That is why efforts to protect the environment of regions around the Mediterranean can be more effective when they extend across borders. Given its focus on cross-border cooperation, the ENPI CBC Med Programme is a natural fit for environmental initiatives. The 38 environmental sustainability projects funded under the ENPI CBC Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme are divided into the following areas: Water management (8 projects); Waste treatment and recycling (6 projects); Renewable energies and energy efficiency (9 projects); Protection of the environment and natural resources (5 projects); Integrated coastal zone management (10 projects). This capitalization event aims at analyzing and discussing key topics addressed and main results achieved by the projects financed under ENPI CBC MED Programme , in view of identifying good practices and common valuable approaches. Complementarities and synergies of the results among the implemented projects will be highlighted. For more information on environmental related projects, please consult our brochure here. The event is organized with the logistic support of Società Geografica Italiana, lead partner of the Future of Our Past project, which is providing Palazzetto Mattei, its prestigious headquarters. During the evening session, all participants will share in-depth insights into those results that could be (further) integrated and/or jointly capitalized. The aim is to create a joint indicative calendar of thematic events to best promote the results achieved by the projects. 4

5 Groups of around 20 persons each will discuss how to integrate their results and communication strategies for optimal closure and follow-up. Contributions are expected from all participants. 6 VILLA CELIMONTANA How to get there Villa Celimontana is located 2.7 km form train station Termini. It can be reached by metro (closest stop is Colosseo, Line B). The venue can also be reached by bus (n. 714, 714 (Direction PALAZZO SPORT, stop LARGO AMBA ARADAM). Villa Celimontana is a public park of the city of Rome. From the entrance of the park, participants should look for Palazzetto Mattei, headquarter of Società Geografica Italiana. It is located 150 meters from the entrance of Villa Celimontana. 6
