PEO Soldier Certification Program
Purpose Allow Soldiers and their leadership to readily identify clothing and equipment purchased on the commercial market as meeting the same stringent, safety, dependability and durability standards as the clothing and equipment they are issued
Background The Army continues to field the best equipment in the world Soldier often buy clothing and equipment made and marketed by vendors as an addition or, in lieu of, the clothing and equipment issued to them - These items may or may not be suitable for use - Appearance may be the only criteria Soldiers have for making a choice Today s state-of-the Art materials, fibers, and treatment processes may not be apparent to a Soldier, but could save his life or prevent serious injury
Program Overview PM CIE developed procedures to evaluate and certify certain commercial items Lists of certified items (Authorized Product Lists or APLs) provided to Army commands and AAFES AAFES will procure APL items, display posters detailing the APL items, and segregate APL items from other similar items
Certification Logo All certified gear will be marked with a trademarked logo
Program Benefits Soldiers know item has been certified prior to purchase Leaders can quickly verify if Soldiers are using certified gear Elimination of potential battlefield hazards Allows for insertion of technical improvements while maintaining product integrity
Vendor Benefits Allows vendors to distinguish their products as meeting safety, dependability, and durability standards Trademark protection helps to eliminate knock offs
Vendor Responsibilities List of procedures and rules developed for each Approved Product List (APL) - Product design - Process control - Advertisement - Retention/revocation of Authorization Participating vendors obligated to sign verifying they understand and will follow procedures
Approved Product Lists Current APLs - FR Combat Gloves Implemented - Family of Flashlights Finalizing - Ballistic Protective Eyewear Future APLs - Based on Soldier surveys, user feedback, and recognition of new technology advancements
