1 Summer 2015 RPL Application for Postgraduate Diploma in Business in Cultural Event Management Dear Applicant, Thank you for your interest in applying for the Postgraduate Diploma in Business in Cultural Event Management. Please make sure that you complete the appropriate application form and indicate that you are applying under recognition of prior (RPL). As part of the RPL application process, you are being asked to submit work that is used to assess your knowledge, skills and competences with respect to Level 8 of the National Framework of Qualifications. There are three pieces of work that must be completed and submitted as part of the process. These are: (1) A typed response to research paper attached to this form Please indicate the sources that you have consulted to develop the response using Harvard Referencing. (2) A completed Europass CV please see attached url with template which should be used. There are accompanying instructions on the site. (3) A dossier which highlights how your previous studies and or work experiences that provide evidence of your knowledge, skills and competences with respect to Level 8 of the National Framework of Qualifications. Your experiences in life, roles in the voluntary sector as well as any work experiences can be referred to demonstrate your case. These can be related to any skills learned, specialised knowledge and interpersonal skills. Examples showing the ability to take decisions and to self-motivate can also be used. 2 SECTION 1: Research piece RPL Research Paper Length: Title: 1,500 words 2,500 words RPL Research Project No. Question: Guidance: Word count: 1. Critically evaluate the following terms: the arts sector, the Cultural Sector, the creative Industries? In your answer try and demonstrate your understanding of these overlapping and sometimes contradictory terms Critically discuss the impact of technology on film, visual arts, or theatre within the previous 30 years? (Choose just one art form) In your answer you can choose to discuss the impacts on either the creation, presentation or audience development of the art form Critically evaluate a cultural event of your choice under the following headings: Quality of marketing campaign Audience profile Quality of cultural experience Pick an event to go to yourself and evaluate it while the event is fresh in your mind or pick one you recently attended. It can be any kind of cultural event. You can write it from a personal reflective log perspective but using one source of reference text from events management/ cultural management General Rules: The paper should be written in the style of professional/academic writing. You must demonstrate your ability to research from a variety of sources including books, academic journals as well as web sources. All information should be referenced fully within text as well as in a reference list and in a bibliography. Either Harvard or APA referencing can be used.
