EXCHANGING THE HARD DISK OF THE SIDEPANEL PCs Important! The boards carry electrostatically sensitive devices. When exchanging the boards, observe the ESD measures for protecting the p.c. board against destroying. That means, only use ESD tools when exchanging. The modification must be carried out by qualified Thomson service personnel only. Thomson recommends to only use completely prepared hard disks from the factory in Weiterstadt. At Panels RPS35-2S, there is no other possibility to install another hard disk than the prepared one. When ordering a new hard disk please tell us: _ the type of the control panel (RPS35-2S/-2/-3/-4L/LX). _ the serial number of the panel. _ the installed operating system. _ the software version installed in the sidepanel PC. _ the IP-address of the sidepanel PC PREPARATION The controller boards of the mainframe and the sidepanel carry battery-buffered data on the ramdisks and in special store areas, which are directly accessed by the application software. When exchanging the hard disk of the sidepanel PC, the sidepanel has to be separated from the mains supply. In order to prevent loss of application data, hard disk exchange has to be carried out in the following steps (if possible): 1. Reset the sidepanel by pressing the reset button on the controller board. Doing so, the current environment data are written into the flash disk. 2. Store the current application data of the switcher in the Config Main menu by Save or Save As onto the hard disk. 3. Close the running sidepanel software and open the Windows Explorer. 4. Copy the application data (c:\programme\dd35\appli) onto a floppy disk, see chapter 5.17 Floppy Disk Drives. Or, if the floppy space is not big enough, copy the application data onto an external PC via LAN, as it is described in the steps a to c: a. Connect an external PC via thinnet to the DD35 LAN. b. Share the Appli folder on the sidepanels hard disk by a click with the right

mouse button onto the Appli folder. Select Sharing... and then Shared AS <OK>. c. Open at the external PC the Network Neighbourhood, Entire Network, DD35, Sidepanel # xxx, and copy the complete Appli file onto your hard disk. 5. Exchange the hard disk as follows in the next chapters EXCHANGING THE HARD DISK OF CONTROL PANELS RPS35-2S/-2/-3/-4/ Demounting the Hard Disk _ Switch off power _ Remove the flat cable and the power cable from the hard disk. _ Unscrew the complete mounting plate carrying the hard disk (four nuts) and remove it. _ Unscrew the four countersunk screws fixing the hard disk on the mounting plate Mounting the Hard Disk _ Mounting is made in reverse order. _ When starting again, note the software installation described in chapter 6.12 How to Install a new hard disk into a DD35 Sidepanel PC EXCHANGING THE HARD DISK OF CONTROL PANELS RPS35-4L/LX Demounting the Hard Disk _ Switch off power _ Remove the flat cable and the power cable from the hard disk. _ Unscrew the complete mounting plate carrying the hard disk (four screws) and remove it. _ Unscrew the four nuts fixing the hard disk on the mounting plate. _ Unscrew the four hex spacers from the hard disk Mounting the Hard Disk _ Mounting is made in reverse order. _ When starting again, note the software installation described in chapter 6.12 How to Install a new hard disk into a DD35 Sidepanel PC. 5 5.17 FLOPPY DISK DRIVES FLOPPY DISK DRIVE FOR PANELS RPS35-4/32, RPS35-4L/LX, RPS35-3 AND RPS35-2 Fig. 528: Floppy disk drive in the RPS35-4 panel The panels RPS35-4/32, RPS35-4l/LX, RPS35-3 and RPS35-2 are provided with a 3.5 floppy disk drive having a storage capacity of 1.44 MB. If a larger amount of data has to be stored, we recommend to use the so-called Smart Media Cards or Memory Sticks. These stores are located in 3.5 disk adapters and have a storage capacity of 64 MB. The adapters are exclusively suited for the operating systems Windows 95 / 98 / 98SE / NT 4.0 / 2000 Professional and Mac OC Version and higher. The following disk types and 3.5 disk adapters have been tested by Thomson and are released for being used with the above panels. _ 3.5 disk adapter MAFP-2NE from Olympus for use of the Smart Media Card from the manufacturer Viking _ 3.5 disk adapter MSAC-FD2M from Sony for use of the Sony Memory Stick, type MSA-64A Fig. 529: Disks It is not necessary to install the supplied program software of the adapters since it is already pre-installed on the switcher PCs. When using 3.5 disk adapters in the panels, proceed according to the instructions of manufacturer and his safety regulations. Voltage supply of the adapter is made by two Lithium round cells, type CR2016. Insert the Lithium round cells according to the instructions of the manufacturer. Pay attention to the polarity. Insert the disk and make sure not to touch the contacts.

How the disk has to be placed when inserting, is described in the operating instructions of the manufacturer. See also Fig The disk adapter has to be inserted into the 3.5 floppy disk drive of the panel like a normal disk. External disk drives being controlled via PC card or USB interfaces, as well as disk drives with a high capacity (e.g. LS drives with 120MB) are not suited for connection to the switcher panels RPS35-4/32, RPS35 4, RPS35 3 and RPS35 2! _ Mounting is made in reverse order. Note for mounting the display: Connect the cables first on the rear panel of the display side panel before put in the display mounting frame in the All-in-one mounting frame! DISPLAY OF CONTROL PANEL RPS35-2S It is not possible to exchange only the touch screen display of the sidepanel. You have to exchange the complete IPC with display and housing as it is described in chapter Exchanging the Sidepanel PC.

EXCHANGING THE LITHIUM BATTERIES The switcher electronics as well as the control panels employ microcomputers which contain a lithium battery. The battery supplies the working store with voltage, thus storing the last data set when the voltage supply of the unit is switched off or interrupted. When switching on again, the switcher resumes its last-selected operating mode with all parameters. The following subassemblies contain a lithium battery VARTA CR1/2 AA: Device Type Boards Mainframe RMD 35 Controller RY 2156 Mainframe RMD 35-2 Controller RY 2156 Control panel RPS35-4L Controller RY 2100 Control panel RPS35-4Lx Controller RY 2100 Control panel RPS35-3 Controller RY 2370 Control panel RPS35-2 Controller RY 2370 Control panel RPS35-2S Controller RY 2370 The following subassemblies contain a lithium round cell CR 2032: Device Type Boards Control panel RPS35-4L PC Motherboard cpl. RC 2204 Control panel RPS35-4LX PC Motherboard cpl. RC 2204 Control panel RPS35-3 PC Motherboard cpl. RC 2371 Control panel RPS35-2 PC Motherboard cpl. RC 2371 Control panel RPS35-2S IPC cpl. RC 2330 According to the specifications by the manufacturer, the lithium battery of the controller boards has a life time of up to 10 years. To ensure that no data loss will occur in the off-state, Thomson recommends as a precaution to exchange the lithium battery after 5 years of operation. A label with an adequate note is provided on the unit. The Lithium round cell of the PC motherboards has a lifetime of up to 3 years. Thomson recommends to exchange the Lithium battery already after 2 years to ensure that no data loss will occur in the off-state. A spare battery can be ordered from Thomson or on the market under the type designation VARTA CR1/2 AA. To get order information about type and order number please refer to chapter 10. Spare Parts! Attention! Danger of explosion when the battery is not correctly inserted. Replace the battery only by a battery from the same manufacturer or by an equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer. Important! The boards carry electrostatically sensitive devices. When exchanging the battery, observe the ESD measures for protecting the p.c. board against destroying. That means, only use ESD tools and a grounded soldering iron when exchanging. The modification must be carried out by qualified Thomson Service personnel only. Protect the environment! Dead batteries do not belong in the garbage. Hand the used batteries over to a local disposal place or observe the respective instructions of the manufacturer! EXCHANGING THE ROUND CELL ON THE PC IN RPS35-4L/LX AND RPS35-2S The PC motherboards of the Control Panels RPS35-4L/LX and RPS35-2S carry

battery-buffered data. For this reason, the round cells on the PC motherboards in the Control Panels RPS35-4L/LX and RPS35-2S must be only exchanged during running operation. When inserting the round cell, observe the polarity. The polarity of the round cell is marked by a clear + symbol on the battery front. The round cell has to be inserted in such a way that the battery type and the positive polarity can be seen from outside. To get information about the BIOS settings, see chapter EXCHANGING THE ROUND CELL ON THE PC IN PANELS RPS35-2/-3 In the Control Panels RPS35-2/-3, the lithium round cell on the PC motherboards are covered by ribbon cables. For exchanging the lithium round cell, it is required to remove these cables. Since there are battery buffered data on the PC motherboard, and exchange can be only made in the off state, the data from the CMOS setup get lost. For this reason, after exchange of the battery, the data in the CMOS setup have to be adjusted again. Exchange of the lithium round cell has to be made as follows. _ Shut down the sidepanel PC and switch off the panel (T2 on the distributor board). _ Remove the ribbon cable (FB 2010, FB 2033) over the lithium round cell. See the cabling diagram, chapters AC and DC Cabling RPS35-3 and AC and DC Cabling RPS35-2 in this Manual. _ Exchange the round cell. When inserting the round cell, observe the polarity. The polarity of the round cell is marked by a clear + symbol on the battery front. The round cell has to be inserted in such a way that the battery type and the positive polarity can be seen from outside. _ Restore the cabling of the PC boards. _ Switch on the control panel. _ When booting the PC, call the CMOS setup by holding down the DEL key and restore the BIOS settings as it is shown in chapter BIOS SETTINGS In case of an empty battery or if battery had been changed while PC was powerless, the BIOS settings will be lost. Therefore you must change the following BIOS settings as shown below BIOS Settings of the Sidepanel PC, Panels RPS35-4L/LX Enter the BIOS setup by holding down DEL key during booting the PC and execute the following changes: All settings not listed in the table above are the factory default settings of the BIOS RAM s. Answer This can be done by the Switcher Sidepanel Menu saving Application: insert Floppy select CONFIG menu (Running Application and available Applications are listed) select COPY CONFIG -->choose SIMPLE (Config Copy Simple menu appears) select SHOW APP-->all stored applications will be listed in the column Hard disk double click the application which should be stored to disk click COPY saving Environment Data: select Install E-Box menu select COPY (environment data) select TO and FD (will store environment.ini to disk) select Install Panel select COPY (environment data) select TO and FD (will store environ_cp.ini to disk) On the disk you will get two field-folder: APPLI and ENVIR Question How to install license keys simultaneously after exchanging an E-Box controller RY 2156? Answer After exchanging an E-Box controller RY 2156 the license keys for TALLY, VRSET and ME_COUPLE must be entered again. A method to copy them all simultaneously and not to enter them one after another in the

Install/System/SWOpt menu is with the file transfer program WS_FTP, delivered with the DD35. The license keys are saved at the hard disk (C:\Programme\Dd35\Envir\ license.txt) after the environment data of the E-Box has been saved once. The license keys can only be copied from that panel where the environment data has been saved. Preparation It is recommended - if still possible - before exchanging the E-Box controller to save the running application (Config menu) and to copy the environment data (Install/E-Box menu with Copy) to HD hard disk or FD floppy disk. The IP-address of the E-Box must be known. It can be found in the Startup menu of the sidepanel in the upper window: conn. E-Box ip: XXX DD35 XXX The XXX show the value of the ending of the IP-address: XXX Example: IP-address of the E-Box is Create a shortcut to WS_FTP on the desktop (right mouse-click onto C:\dd35\ bin\ds0146\v225\ds0184\ws_ftp.exe Send To Desktop). Make a right mouse-click on the Ws_ftp shortcut on the desktop and click on Properties. Select the Shortcut tabulator and enter the complete path of the Local System in Start In: C:\Programme\DD35\Envir', see picture below. Save with Apply and OK. Start a Ws_ftp session (double-click on the Ws_ftp shortcut). Select Anonymous Login and enter all values: Profile Name: any name Host Name: IP-address of the E-Box Host Type: Automatic detect User ID: anonymous Password: guest Remote Host: /flash

Save this session profile. Copy procedure Start the created WS_FTP session. (Press OK, or if you want to start a new session make a double-click onto the Ws_ftp shortcut on the desktop and select your entered profile name, press then OK.) Example: WS_FTP session with the E-Box DD Highlight the license.txt in the left window and copy it with a click on the arrow -> from left to right (from the hard disk into the flash). Now the license keys are copied simultaneously into the E-Box. Exit WS_FTP and reset the E-Box controller. Copy the environment data back from the hard disk or floppy disk, depending on where it was saved before (Install/E-Box/Copy From HD or FD). Reload your application (Config menu). WS_FTP95 WS_FTP95 is a program delivered with the software package (license is delivered with the DD35). It can be found on your sidepanels hard disk: C:\dd35\bin\ds0146\Vxxx\ds0184\Ws_ftp.exe. WS_FTP95 functions are similar to the windows explorer so that single files can be transferred in a very comfortable way. You can load drivers, software packages or the complete software with WS_FTP95. This is an appropriate tool for updating some drivers if you do not want to update the complete software. It can also be used to make a backup of some files. WS_FTP95 allows to use your keyboard as if you are connected directly to the remote host computer. WS_FTP95 will be used for connections via LAN, WAN, INTERNET or similar network paths (see also the files regarding TCP / IP).

You cannot create or delete registers with WS_FTP95, therefore you must use TELNET or HyperTerminal. With WS_FTP95 you can only copy registers, but in a very comfortable way Starting a WS_FTP95 Session 1. Go to C:\dd35\bin\ds0146\Vxxx\ds0184\Ws_ftp.exe and create a shortcut on the desktop. Start the WS_FTP95 client. 2. Select Anonymous Login and for Host Name the IP address of the controller: 3. Confirm with <OK> and the /flash directory appears. On the right, the /flash directory (Local System) appears and on the left, the PC hard disk (Remote System). 4. Start loading from left to right using the arrow: > You can change the controllers (mainframe or panel) with connect by changing the IP address.

COPY FUNCTIONS Save / Save as Switcher <==> Harddisk Config menu _ Storing or loading of applications _ New applications can be only stored via save as _ Applications already available on the harddisk can be only overwritten via save. When deleting individual registers in the switcher (e.g. snapshots or timelines), at present, with save only the contents.cnt is overwritten but the register is not deleted. In a successive version (software release v 2.1.4), with save, the application is first deleted and then stored again so that this restriction does not exist anymore. Transfer Switcher <==> Floppy Personality menu _ Copying of functional groups or registers from the corresponding menus (not related to the application) _ The disk must have the directory structure\transfer\functional group\register.

_ The structure is automatically set up when copying. Copy Simple Harddisk <==> Floppy Config menu _ Copying of applications or functional groups (related to the application) _ Applications with equal names cannot be overwritten, they have to be previously deleted in the destination directory or renamed. _ The disk must have the directory structure \appli\ application name. _ The structure is automatically set up when copying. _ When loading back, the application must be first deleted on the harddisk. Copy Detailed Harddisk <==> Harddisk <==> Floppy Config menu _ Copying of functional groups or registers (not related to the application) _ The disk must have the directory structure \appli\ application name _ The structure is automatically set up when copying. Notes: _ Due to the different directory structures of the different copy functions, the saved data or applications should be loaded back only with the same menu- supported copy function. _ In general, all applications, functional groups of an application or individual registers of a functional group can be copied via the explorer or file manager onto a store medium. This, however, involves some risks (data loss with load application) and should normally be avoided. _ When copying via the explorer, the addresses of the destination system have to be entered in the device.ini and the directory numbers of the CP data have to coincide (CP1 ==>CXP1). _ When copying individual registers via the explorer, the contents.cnt has also to be edited. Using an External CD-Drive 1. Shut down the sidepanel PC. At panel RPS35-2S no shutdown and restart is necessary. 2. Connect the CD-drive via the SCSI connection cable to the SCSI-port on the panel (only ULTRA) or via USB on panel RPS35-2S. 3. After restarting the sidepanel PC, the CD-drive is available. POSSIBLE COMMANDS IN TELNET OR HYPERTERMINAL Please use UPPER and LOWER case letters as shown!!! (when additional information is required quotation marks are needed -... ) Be extremely careful! Do not send commands you are not familiar with! You could easily delete important files!
