1 Technology Request Advanced nanostructured metallic alloys for medical implants Summary A Technical University from Romania is looking for research partners in the field of materials technology. The research focuses on obtaining a new titanium based nanostructured alloy with appropriate mechanical and biocompatible properties. An important research direction is bio-material complex characterization for pre-clinical evaluation. The partners sought are SMEs and R&D performers in the field of materials technology for technical cooperation or EU/international R&D programs. Creation Date 27 November 2013 Last Update 08 July 2014 Expiration Date 08 July 2015 Reference 12 RO 662C 3RA6 Details Description The project aim is obtaining of a new titanium based nanostructured alloy with appropriate mechanical and biocompatible properties. The titanium based alloy with non-toxic alloying elements is a beta type alloy, from Ti-Ta-X system (X=Nb, Zr, Mo), that will be processed by Severe Plastic Deformation (SPD), in order to obtain an advanced material with nanocrystaline structure, having appropriate mechanical and biocompatible properties. The alloy characterization will be carried out from all aspects: chemical, physico-mechanical, structural, corrosion resistance, biocompatibility in vitro tests and cell culture, being correlated with the advanced study of the nanostructured biomaterial surface. Biomaterial obtaining raises many problems concerning the theoretical study of the synthesis using high vacuum technique, deformable media mechanics, solid body physics, biocompatibility testing and evaluation. An important research direction is bio-material complex characterization for pre-clinical evaluation. The partners sought are SMEs and R&D performers in the field of Materials Technology for Technical cooperation or interested in European/International R&D Programs. Technical Specification or Expertise Sought New Ti-Ta-X alloy, processed by severe plastic deformation with nanocrystalline structure, with adequate strength, low elastic modulus and high biocompatible properties. Synthesis of Ti-Ta-X alloy. Ti-Ta-X alloy thermo-mechanical processing technology. Ti-Ta-X alloy severe plastic deformation processing technology. The characterization of Ti-Ta-X alloy in: as-cast, thermomechanical processed and SPD processed states. Ti-Ta-X alloy biocompatibility testing. 4 Technology Request Development of combined test-systems for diagnostics of myocardial infarction Summary A Russian SME from Kaluga region developed a technology for early diagnostics of myocardial infarction, based on the identification of a cardiomarker fatty-acid-binding protein (FABP) and a fullcycle technology for test-strips manufacture. The company wants to develop a combined method for myocardial infarction diagnostics using two cardiomarkers: FABP and troponin, and seeks partners for research and technical cooperation. Creation Date 16 June 2014 Last Update 08 July 2014 Expiration Date 08 July 2015 Reference TRRU Details Description Laboratory diagnostics is playing an increasing role in the modern medicine as a main tool for making diagnosis and monitoring the progress of therapy. One of thriving and demanded methods of laboratory diagnostics is the immunochromatographic analisys the method for identification of certain concentration of substances in biological liquids (urine, blood, saliva, etc.). This analisys is made with use of indicator test-stripes, which makes the testing fast and comfortable. A small enterprise, in a partnership with a leading Russian research centre, developed an immunochromatographic technology for identification of a fatty-acid-binding protein (FABP) and a full-cycle technology for manufacturing test-strips for early diagnostics of myocardial infarction. The fatty-acid-binding protein allows seeing the changes taking part in the human body under a myocardial infarction during the first 5 hours. For a later diagnostics, the troponin cardiomarker is used. The concentration of this marker reaches the diagnostic threshold after 6 hours from the start of pain syndrome, archives the maximum after 18 hours and comes back to the initial level after 5-10 days. The company looks for further improvement of the diagnostic technology and the development of a combined test-systems to allow diagnosing the myocardial infarction by two cardiomarkers: FABP and troponin; this would expand the working interval of myocardial infarction diagnostics from 1 to 72 hours from the appearance of pain syndrome. The authors look for partners for scientific and technical cooperation, aimed at the development of a complex method for diagnostics of myocardial infarction by two cardiomarkers and further setting up a production of combined test-systems and antibodies used for manufacturing the test-systems. Technical Specification or Expertise Sought The partner should have competences in biotechnology, medicine, biochemistry, development of diagnostic aids, including immunochromatographic tests. Availability of production facilities (or Page 4 of 9

7 Technology Request Innovative technologies for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) formulations Summary A Spanish company dedicated to polymorphism, pharmaceutical cocrystals and drug discovery is looking for innovative technologies that would enhance newly discovered solid forms of APIs. These technologies can include for instance the prediction of APIs' solubility or the optimization of their manufacture by means of green chemistry. The company is looking for partners interested in signing technological cooperation agreements. Creation Date 24 June 2014 Last Update 09 July 2014 Expiration Date 09 July 2015 Reference TRES Details Description The Spanish company has developed a new virtual screening technology able to predict which crystal forms of an API have higher probability of being synthesized. The new forms show enhanced properties such as better solubility or hydroscopicity and can be patented. In case they manage to complement their services with new technologies able to improve newly discovered APIs, they will be able to optimize even more the experiments carried out afterwards in laboratories. Technologies such as scaling-up of cocrystals are at present very underdeveloped and not much studied at industrial level and don't present any established protocol. It is expected that systems that avoid the use of solvents and that can be categorized within green chemistry will become far-reaching technologies. These systems can use different techniques, such as supercritical fluids, twin-screw extrusion, resonant acoustic mixing, etc. With regard to the prediction of solubilities has to be said that it is a great advantage itself, considering that solubility of APIs in most of the cases determines basic properties such as the bio-availability and the bio-equivalency of the new drugs. Technical Specification or Expertise Sought Prediction of solubilities of new solid forms, cocrystals and polymorphs. Scaling-up and manufacture of cocrystals by means of innovative green chemistry methods without solvents.
