4 Sex, Drugs and Alcohol... Recovery Position Alcohol and drugs often cause you to lose your inhibitions making unsafe sexual encounters more likely when you are under the influence. First-time sex is often under the influence of alcohol and associated with a lack of control. Mixing drugs and alcohol with sex increases the risk of sexual assault or other violence. Sex under the influence of drugs/alcohol is more likely to take place without the use of condoms, therefore increasing the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and/or unwanted pregnancy. A side effect of excessive alcohol consumption is hypothermia so it is vital that you keep the person warm. 4 9
