5 Preface This manual provides instructions for installing Enterprise Content Integration Services adapter for Oracle. The most up-to-date information about the product is available in Enterprise Content Integration Services Release Notes. The latest version of this document and all documents related to ECI Services are available on the Powerlink site ( The Enterprise Content Integration Services Adapter Installation Guide provides more information about adapters, backend configuration, and common ECI Services attributes. The configuration tasks should always be performed using the Admin Center. The Enterprise Content Integration Services Administration Guide provides more information on the Admin Center. This document contains references to configuration files and the possibility to edit them. Only experienced administrators should attempt manual configuration for troubleshooting purposes. Intended audience This guide is intended for ECI Services administrators and librarians: The administrator configures the ECI Services server. This person is responsible for the technical configuration of the system including the definition of backends. For instance, the administrator might configure the Lotus Notes adapter bundle to work with the local Notes repository installed on the intranet, thereby creating a new ACME_Notes backend. The librarian working in cooperation with the administrator organizes the backends into domains that make most sense to the end users. For instance, the librarian working in ACME Corporation could create an ACME domain containing only local backends, and specifically the local MIS backend configured by the administrator. 7 Chapter 1 Introduction ECI Services provides an adapter that can communicate with Oracle 8i and above. This adapter is a JDBC adapter that uses a library from Oracle. Therefore, most of the properties of this adapter are similar to a JDBC adapter. The only difference is that the procedure is simpler because you do not have to do the following: Download the JDBC library for Oracle, because it is already done for you in the ECI Services definition. It needs to be set to FALSE for any other kind of JDBC adapter (for example, Access database).
