9 Africa s Youth Are Not Industry Ready Graduates AAI is creating opportunities for the skills training, education and work-force development of Africa s youth African Youth (14-35) are +50% of the continent s population today and will represent 41% of the world s youth by

10 The Case for Higher Education and Vocational Training Universities are best placed to create the well-trained labor force needed as the drive for knowledge-based economies takes hold on the continent. Youth workforce development programs in developing countries are having a positive impact on employment and earnings. The World Bank meta-analysis, state integrated programs that support young workers via job training, vocational skills, classroom components, life skills training and counseling have proven to be the most effective. 10

15 Opportunities for Engagement Launched in 2015, the Fund steers global philanthropy toward scholarships for under-resourced African youth to study in topperforming African universities to earn Bachelor degrees. Vocational and Technical Training scholarships will also be offered to technical colleges to earn vocational and technical training certifications. 15
