1 BUSINESS MEETING MINUTES WESTERN COUNCIL OF BUSINESS SCHOOLS AND PROGRAMS Region 7 of the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs Business Meeting Agenda Friday, November 1, 2013 Salt Lake City, Utah 1. Welcome and Approval of Agenda 2. Approval of Minutes, June, 2013 Meeting in Salt Lake City. A request to verify attendance at Boise meeting was made by Steve Mountjoy. (Verified- Actual number registered was 41. Actual number attended 40.) Action item from last minutes: Steve Mountjoy to verify last year s Boise meeting meal expenses. Steve reported the amount was verified and was accurate. 3. Continuing Business a. President s Report i. Attendance: 49 pre- registered for this conference. We had 40 in winter 2013, 60 attendees in 2012, and 56 attendees in ii. $500 scholarship donation in the name of the Excellence in Teaching award winner, J. Aaron Christopher, was made to California Baptist University iii. Presentations 1. Past President: Stephen Mountjoy Excellence in Teaching: J. Aaron Christopher, California Baptist University (not present, award sent with fellow employee.) iv. A new region succession plan was implemented whereby the position(s) of Secretary and Treasurer were divided as of July 1 st. The new succession plan details that the Secretary will become the President Elect, and then the President. We will elect a Secretary- designate later in the meeting. v. In January a discussion ensued about moving the date of the annual regional meeting to a more temperate climate time period. The executive committee considered this and after some research on hotel rates and availability, with difference given to conflicting events and temperature, moved the annual regional conference to October 30- Nov 1. It was also decided that the discussion on when to meet next would be continued at that time. b. Treasurer s Report Motion to pay off ACBSP Capital Campaign balance of $2,000 was made by Ron Galloway, seconded, approved unanimously c. Committee Reports: (discussed after committee reports) d. Nominations and Elections:

Election for Secretary- designate , four year institution (3- year succession commitment: Secretary ; President- elect ; President ) Craig Brewer from Notre Dame de Namur University was nominated, nominations closed, unanimous approval ii. The following individuals were nominated to fill open committee positions 1. Publication Committee: Jim Wang, Westminster College 2. Global Business Education: Sam Dunn, Northwest Nazarene University 3. Business/Industry Relation Committee: Tom Skochinski from Grand Canyon University said he had a collague who would like to serve in this capacity. He would check with them and get back to Dennis Bromley, President. 4. New Business a. Site for Regional Conference Vancouver, Canada hosted by Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Dates October 22-24, 2014, Lee will investigate, with national, having pre- conference workshop(s) suggested evaluator training b. Site for Regional Conference San Francisco, California hosted by Skyline, Dates October 21-23, 2015, probably at Notre Damede Namur University c. Site for Regional Conference possibly in Seattle (Corrine Holden) or San Diego d. National Committee Updates: i. By- Laws Committee Teresa Gillespie, Northwest University (WA) (4- yr, Region 7, ) - No update ii. Marketing Committee Freda Hartman, University of Phoenix (4- yr, Region 7, ) - No update iii. Strategic Planning Committee Ron Galloway, Northwest Nazarene University (ID) (4- yr, Region 7, ) Update: The most recent work has been to build out the plan to include international areas. The current draft in online and available for review on the ACBSP website. iv. Articulation Committee Hal Morgan, University of Phoenix (AZ) (4- yr, Region 7, ) - No update v. Business/Industry Relations Committee Stacey Garrett, Grand Canyon University (AZ) (4- yr, Region 7, ) - No update- need 1 year replacement vi. Global Business Education Committee - No update Diana Gilmore, Notre Dame de Namur University (4- yr, Region 7, No update
3 vii. Committee for New Media Jeff Lineman, Northwest Nazarene (ID) (4- yr, Region 7, ) Update: new name Digital Media Communications Committee. Current work has been to bring new website online and to improve website usage. viii. Member Relations Committee Brenda Johnson, Northwest Nazarene (ID) (4- yr, Region 7, ) Update: A new member of staff at the ACBSP home office will be hired to help coordinate activities. Mentioned it is interesting to meet with the new members from the regions as the time zones are quite different. e. Region 7 Committee Updates: i. Strategic Planning Committee (Chair, Clarissa Cota) Update by Lynnette Yerbury. Moving forward on some of the plan initiatives. A payout was made for the Teaching Excellence Student Scholarship. It was decided that a copy of the current strategic plan should be ed out to attendees of the annual conference in Chicago in advance and that members come prepared to revise and review as deemed necessary. ii. Teaching Excellence Award Committee (Chair, Alisa Fleming) Update: send out application announcement early. Members were asked to urge their peers to apply for the award. It was noted that we now have three additional months between our regional conference and the due date, and it is hoped this will encourage more individuals to apply. There will be a need to replace Alisa at the national conference meeting. iii Regional Conference Committee (Chair, Helen Vallee) Update: Plans are currently underway for next year s regional conference. A motion was made and seconded to have a preconference workshop. Lee Smith agreed to contact the ACBSP home office with a request to provide. iv Regional Conference Committee (Chair, Linda Whitten): Update: Skyline is excited to have the conference come to California. They will include University of DeVry and Notre Dame de Namur in the planning process and make it a group
4 effort. The mentioned that they would like to have a preconference workshop on how to prepare a Self- Study. 5. Recognitions 6. Other Business I. Approved $250 scholarship funding to both honor societies this year with the amount to be re- evaluated for following years with desire to increase if possible. Kappa Beta Delta (Check to Mary Riley at ACBSP) Delta Mu Delta (Chuck Fazzie) II. We need to address the idea of paying a 20% of incidential conference cost fee to host institutions. It has been done sporadically in the past. The Treasurer would like to have a policy regarding this. It was agreed to put this on the agenda for the Region 7 Business Meeting in Chicago next June. was nominated. The motion was seconded and passed. 7. Adjourn
