5 HEALTH Introduction RESOURCES The 2015 Miami Community Services resource directory was developed by the Jay Weiss Institute for Health Equity (JWI) which is part of the University of Miami (UM) Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. This is the third edition of the directory. Prior editions were printed in 2008 and The directory is designed to provide information about resources for anyone seeking assistance with a wide range of health and socials services. Although the JWI focuses on cancer, this directory includes resources for many types of services. It is a starting point for addressing a broad range of health and social issues at a glance. We hope that you will find it useful. The JWI s hope is to make meaningful progress towards health equity through outreach, community partnerships, research, advocacy, and training. It consists of three inter-related program areas: community outreach, research, and training. In all areas, we collaborate with community partners who offer critical insight regarding risk conditions affecting health and healthcare utilization. Information in this guide was obtained from various sources, recommendations from our community partners and information on the Internet, including Switchboard of Miami (2-1-1) and the Miami Matters. Every effort has been made to ensure accuracy of the content at the time of publication. The authors disclaim any responsibility for inaccurate, misprinted or omitted information obtained from other sources. Inclusion in this guide does not imply endorsement or approval of programs or services. Neither the UM Miller School of Medicine or the authors of this directory are responsible or liable for the services and activities provided by organizations and agencies listed in the guide.
