By midrace Ashford was completely in command as Brown held second position. The late charge by Merlene Ottey-Page (JAM) left her just behind Brown but ahead of Bolden for the bronze medal. Compte rendu: Les Américaines Alice Brown et Jeanette Bolden étaient les plus rapides au depart mais leur compatriote Evelyn Ashford les rejoignait bientot en téte.
