1 VOODOO EVOLUTION 32R ASSEMBLY GUIDELINE #2 UNIVERSAL ENGINE & TRANSMISSION MOUNT KIT SPECIAL NOTE All Voodoo Hot Rods chassis components require fabrication and welding prior to installation. Due to the unique design of the Voodoo Evolution 32R Chassis, common over-the-counter suspension components may not bolt into the chassis without modification. Voodoo Hot Rods suspension kits are designed for the experienced chassis builder, our products do not provide a bolt-together assembly. Voodoo Evolution 32R Assembly Guidelines are numbered and should be implemented in sequence.. Fabrication is relatively simple and provides experienced hot rodders and professional builders with the potential to incorporate their own subtle changes in chassis assembly with the convenience of a predesigned component that can be tailored to a unique installation. As chassis and suspension components provide critical functions it is imperative that in the interests of safety the very highest quality welding be undertaken by fully qualified technicians. STEP 1 identify installation kit components The Universal Engine & Transmission Mount Kit contains: 1 x Engine Cross-member 2 x Lower Engine Mounts 2 x Vertical Tubes 1 x Transmission Cross-member 1 x Transmission Mount STEP 2 ensure previous Installation Guideline has been completed Before installing the Universal Engine & Transmission Mount Kit it is essential that the following Voodoo Evolution 32R Guideline has been completed: #1 Assembly Guideline: Chassis Setup for Engine, Transmission & Suspension STEP 3 position engine & transmission longitudinally in chassis It is recommended the rear-most head on V8 engines be positioned 2 ahead of the the Cowl Roll Cage Hoop. The carbon fiber firewall in the the Voodoo Evolution 32R Body sits immediately ahead of the Cowl Roll Hoop, so XX should provide enough clearance for typical transmission dipsticks. STEP 4 center engine & transmission in chassis Ensure the engine and transmission are centered in the Voodoo Evolution 32R Chassis. PAGE 1/11

2 STEP 5 position engine & transmission vertically in chassis Position engine and transmission vertically in chassis with a minimum downward angle of 1-degrees at the rear to ensure oil drain-back and ensure the drive-train appears level in the completed roadster. The Voodoo Evolution 32R Chassis & Body are designed to enable the engine and transmission to be mounted higher in the chassis than in conventional reproductions, to provide practical ground clearance with lower ride height and longer suspension travel. 3 STEP 6 index Engine Cross-member position on Lower Chassis Rails With the engine and transmission accurately positioned, mark the top of the left and right Lower Chassis Rails indicating where the Engine Cross-member will be fitted to position the Lower Engine Mounts to suit custom upper engine mounts that must be fabricated to suit the engine being installed.. 4 STEP 7 fabricate custom upper engine mounts Custom upper engine mounts must be fabricated to mate with the Lower Engine Mounts that weld to the Engine Cross-member. The Lower Engine Mounts are designed to use Chassis Engineering 'donut' style rubber engine insulators. Fabricate the custom upper engine mounts using 'donut' style rubber engine insulators to ensure correct spacing between the custom upper and Lower Engine Mounts. For good aesthetics the Engine Cross-member and Lower Engine Mounts are designed to position the rubber engine insulators behind the Upper & Lower Chassis Rails. PAGE 4/11

5 STEP 8 cut Engine Cross-member to fit between Lower Chassis Rails Accurately measure the distance between the Lower Chassis Rails at the index marks made in STEP 6. Use a tube notching tool to cut the Engine Cross-member for a close-tolerance fit between the left & right chassis rails. Ensure the notched ends of the cross-member orientate its dropped center vertically or to suit the engine being installed. To fit the Voodoo Evolution 32R Chassis all engines must have a rear oil sump or be converted to this configuration to provide clearance to the Engine Cross-member. STEP 9 tack weld Engine Cross-member to Lower Chassis Rails Slide the Engine Cross-member between the left & right Lower Chassis Rails from the rear of the chassis and tack-weld in position. 6 STEP 10 cut Vertical Tubes to fit between Engine Cross=member & Upper Chassis Rails Use a tube notching tool to cut the Vertical Tubes for a close-tolerance fit between the base of the Upper Chassis Rails and the top of the Engine Cross-member. STEP 11 tack weld Vertical Tubes between Upper Chassis Rails & Engine Cross-member Slide the Vertical Tubes between the Upper Chassis Rails and Engine Cross-member and tack-weld in position. 7 STEP 12 tack weld Lower Engine Mounts to Engine Cross-member Position the left & right Lower Engine Mounts equal distance inboard of the left and right chassis rails, positioning the center hole directly below the center hole in the fabricated custom upper engine mounts. Note that the Lower Engine Mounts can be rotated around the Engine Cross-member to accommodate front-to-rear engine mounting angle for oil drain-back. Tack-weld the Lower Engine Mounts to the Cross-member. PAGE 7/11

8 STEP 13 index Transmission Cross-member position on Lower Center Chassis Cross-member The Transmission Cross-member and Transmission Mount are designed to be used with a stock rubber or aftermarket polyurethane transmission insulator to suit the gearbox being installed. Bolt the transmission insulator to the gearbox and drill the Transmission Mount to suit the insulator. Bolt the Transmission Mount to the insulator and gearbox. Position the Transmission Cross-member in the curved notches in the front edge of the Transmission Mount. Determine if a spacer is required between the Transmission Mount and the transmission insulator to align the Transmission Cross-member between the left & right sides of the Lower Center Chassis Cross-member. Index the left and right side of the Lower Center Chassis Cross-member indicating where the Transmission Cross-member will be positioned with the Transmission Mount bolted to the transmission insulator and gearbox. 9 STEP 14 cut Transmission Cross-member to fit between Lower Center Chassis Cross-member Accurately measure the distance between the Lower Center Chassis Cross-member at the index marks made in STEP 13. Use a tube notching tool to cut the Transmission Cross-member for a closetolerance fit between the Lower Center Chassis Cross-members. STEP 14 tack weld Transmission Cross-member to Lower Center Chassis Cross-members Slide the Transmission Mount Cross-member between the Lower Center Chassis Cross-members from the front of the chassis and tack-weld in position. 10 STEP 15 tack weld Transmission Mount to Transmission Cross-member Ensuring the Transmission Mount is centered on the Transmission Cross-member, tack-weld the mount in position. Note that the Transmission Mount can be rotated around the Transmission Cross-member to accommodate front-to-rear engine/transmission mounting angle. STEP 16 proceed to #3 Assembly Guideline: Front Axle Preparation PAGE 10/11

11 IMPORTANT NOTE Do not undertake final welding of the Universal Engine & Transmission Mount Kit until the rolling Voodoo Evolution 32R Chassis has been set up at intended chassis rake and ride height using the wheels and tires to be used, with all front suspension, steering, rear suspension and Chassis Rail Covers fitted and checked for correct function and clearance to engine, transmission, drive shaft, exhaust, chassis and other components. Also ensure the Voodoo Evolution 32R Body including Grill Shell, Hood Top & Sides, and Tank Trunk or Rolled Rear Pan have been installed and checked for functional clearance. STEP 17 fully weld all installation kit components After all other chassis fabrication has been completed fully weld the following Universal Engine & Transmission Mount Kit components: Left & Right ends of Engine Cross-member to Left & Right Lower Chassis Rails Left & Right Vertical Tubes between base of Left & Right Upper Chassis Rails and Engine Cross-member Left & Right Lower Engine Mounts to Engine Cross-member Left & Right ends of Transmission Cross-member to Left & Right Lower Center Chassis Cross-member Transmission Mount to Transmission Cross-member PAGE 11/11
