3 Purpose of the Program Promote the professional growth and prestige of interscholastic athletic administrators in Mississippi Provide interscholastic athletic administrators in Mississippi with a blueprint for achieving professional growth through a systematic, progressive process of developmental and educational preparation experiences

4 Purpose of Program continued Provide the best athletic management practices in use today Offer the best possible program to the students across the State of Mississippi

5 Introduction Gain knowledge and perspective of the athletic administrator s role Enhancement of daily operations of an athletic department Improvement of professionalism of an athletic director Positive effect within the school and community

6 Curriculum Educational Provider The University of Southern Mississippi has long been recognized as a nationally premier graduate program for the training of individuals to enter the field of sport management The University has focused on the preparation of candidates for employment on the collegiate and interscholastic levels

7 Completion of Curriculum Upon completion of the degree, the candidate will receive a Master s Degree Be eligible for AA Licensure in the State of Mississippi upon successful completion of the CAA Certification Exam

14 Certification Level Requirements The University of Southern Mississippi and the Mississippi High School Activities Association are recommending the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Certification Program (NIAAA). Upon completion of the academic degree, the candidate may sit for the Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) Certification.

15 Certification Programs Offered AA Licensure Mississippi Department of Education Institutional recommendation from The University of Southern Mississippi Completion of Master of Science Degree in Interscholastic Athletic Administration from The University of Southern Mississippi Successful completion of CAA Certification exam

16 Admission to The University of Southern Mississippi Requirements Bachelor or Master s Degree Teaching License GPA on last 60 hours of undergraduate work or GPA Masters GRE or MAT Score Three (3) letters of recommendation (2 from supervising school administrators and 1 of candidate s choice) Cover letter/statement of intent Portfolio Writing Sample Interview Minimum 2 years of successful teaching/coaching experience

17 Importance of Program The attainment of professional certification in conjunction with the academic degree demonstrates the completion of a comprehensive plan for self-improvement that will enhance the ability of the interscholastic administrator to serve the school, the community, and professional organizations.
