1 MASTER OF SCIENCE IN NURSING DEGREE The curriculum for the MSN is based on standards for master s education outlined in the Essentials for Master s Education in Nursing published by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN, 1996). All courses for this degree are offered using distance technologies, including but not limited to, web-based and web-enhanced approaches. The administration or teaching practicum may be completed in the student s own community. Specialty Track Options Nursing Administration The objectives of the Nursing Administration specialty track are to prepare professional nurses to function in administrative and management positions and to increase the number of master-prepared nurse managers and administrators in healthcare agencies. This program is designed to facilitate the integration and application of advanced administrative theory and skills. Course content includes system performance, organizational behavior, health policy, health law and ethics, resource management, and administrative issues. An administrative practicum in healthcare settings is selected in relation to individual student interests and learning needs. Graduates are eligible to apply for certification by exam from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) after they meet the executive level nursing practice requirement. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Students must submit an online application for admission to the University. The application may be accessed at The MSN degree option needs to be selected when the application requests the degree being sought. In addition, the student must submit documentation to the Graduate Studies Office of having met the following requirements: Graduate School Requirements Competitive Undergraduate GPA o Minimum of 3.0 GPA in the last 60 hours of an undergraduate degree program required

2 Letter of interest, commitment, and purpose for pursuing a master s degree in Nursing Administration Acceptable performance on appropriate standardized exams such as GRE or MAT (Millers Analogy Test) o Official scores must be submitted to the Graduate Office. Supportive letters of evaluation from supervisors and professional mentors o Minimum of 3 required. Letters must be current and dated within 6 months of application. Current Résumé Send supportive letters, letter of interest and resume plus your Millers Analogy test results to amiee.mullins@tamut.edu (If you have already taken the GRE or the Millers Analogy Test you may submit those to Ms. Mullins. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS (continued) Additional Master of Science in Nursing Program Requirements BSN degree from a nationally accredited institution or has met the BSN transition pathway requirements.
