3 UK University Taster courses Go to or to find open days and taster courses. There are a lot of scheduled open days in the next few weeks and months University taster courses are also available for many subjects and you can enter these on the UCAS application form.

8 When Important Your lack of planning does not constitute an emergency on the school s part. Teachers have other equally important commitments Giving teachers plenty of advanced notice will improve the quality of references You will not receive a reference by giving 24 hr notice So, don t put off for tomorrow, what you can do today!

10 UK UNIVERSITY PLANNING CALENDAR :In D1 Now--Obtain and review prospectuses from universities in which you are interested Latest admission requirements are available online Now and through the year--visit universities and make final decisions on courses. Work on personal statement. Go on taster courses. At the end of D1 --all D1 students will register on UCAS and start their University application

12 UK UNIVERSITY PLANNING CALENDAR : In D2 September Personal statement drafts October Finalise Cambridge, Oxford and Medicine Applications Final Personal statement submission Course searches and Guidance meeting November - Reference requests from teachers that know you academically and personally December- 1 December, Dwight Deadline for UCAS Applications January 15 January, UCAS Deadline March Offers Received Firm and insurance choice finalised May IB Exams July IB Results, offers met and places are confirmed

13 Tuition Fees Max 9,000 in UK Approximately $60,000 a year for USA Europe? Tuition fees differ for different countries. Japan? Universities need proof you can pay all of your expenses while studying

14 Student Loans and Scholarships In UK student loans are paid back once you have started to earn They are available based on individual circumstances UCAS has the most up to date information undergraduate/finance-and-support/tuitionfees-and-student-loans

15 US APPLICATIONS UNIVERSITY PLANNING CALENDAR Early Decision Apply early in October/November (D2) Will receive decision well in advance of the spring notification date (Dec/Jan) Sometimes a better chance of acceptance than through the normal admissions process Quality of CAS can be critical for application Go to for virtual tours. College tours are also available in the summer

16 US APPLICATIONS PROCESS UNIVERSITY PLANNING CALENDAR Early Decision Binding May only apply to one university through Early Decision. Others through normal route If accepted, must withdraw from other applications

17 US APPLICATIONS PROCESS UNIVERSITY PLANNING CALENDAR Early Action Similar to Early Decision, but NOT binding Can choose to commit or wait until spring New Single Entry Early Action Same as Early Action, but candidates may not apply early to any other school and can wait to decide

23 Entry Routes Around the World Germany-- Approach the Universities direct to double check the University requirements for each course In Group 3 German universities will only accept History, Geography or Economics. In Group 4 German universities will only accept Biology, Chemistry or Physics. Please come and see me if you are considering German Universities

26 Course Selection Make sure your IB classes are acceptable for entrance into your chosen course Use the course search feature on Unsure?? Morrisby In-depth Aptitude test We will hold the Morrisby test this year on the 13th of November with feedback on the 19th/ 20th

27 Personal Statements It is important but not the end-all and be-all of the application Get pen to paper or fingers to typing Start with three bullet points: Sentence about why you want to apply to the course Sentence about your current studies Paragraph about you 80/20 academic/personal balance
