1 BIT Course Description Introduction to Operating Systems BTEC 101 This course follows a systematic approach to operating systems explaining why they are needed and what they do. Topics include the basic system resources of hardware, software, and data, single-user and multi-user operating systems, process control, and the use and maintenance of file systems. Upon completion of this course, the student will grasp operating system design concepts and be familiar with the implementation of some of these concepts Information Systems BTEC 102 Introduces computers and the role they play in business, industry, and society. Topics include basic components of computer systems and how these function in an information processing environment. Hands-on labs cover operating systems, word processing, windows applications, and problem-solving techniques. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to understand the role of information system in business. Introduction to Programming C++ BTEC 103 A study of current programming languages and techniques and their use in practical applications. Emphasis will be placed on the development of a high degree of proficiency in C++. This course stresses basic C++ concepts including data types, conditional and looping techniques, functions, arrays. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to understand the basic problem solving techniques using C++ programming language Business Mathematics I BTEC 104 An applied mathematics course focusing on the mathematical concepts underlying decision making for business. Topics include applications of business mathematics, review of algebra, ratios and proportions, Percents and their application and mathematics of merchandising, and simple interest. PC Hardware Fundamentals BTEC 105,109 Prerequisites: BTEC 101, 102 This course prepares students to pass the hardware component of Computer Technology Industry association s (CompTIA) A+ certification exam. Topics include an overview on how computers integrate hardware and software components, the system board, managing memory, hard drives,

2 troubleshooting fundamentals, supporting I/O devices, multimedia technology and power supplies. Introduction to Network Management BTEC 106 Prerequisites: BTEC 101, 102 This course, along with (Advanced Network Management BTEC 207), introduces networking technologies and prepares students to pass the Computer Technology Industry Association s (CompTIA) vendor-neutral Network+ certification exam. Topics covered include networking standards, the OSI model, network protocols, networking media, networking devices Internet Fundamentals BTEC 107 Prerequisites: BTEC 102 Introduces the fundamentals of Internet concepts, principles, and services. Topics covered include FTP, Telnet, efficient Web searching, Internet infrastructure, HTML, XHTML and introductory web design. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to understand the role of information system in business. basic component of Internet, who uses it, and how it is used, manage , browsers and social media. Business Mathematics II BTEC 108 Prerequisites: BTEC 104 An exploration of compound interest and the time value of money. Other topics covered include ordinary simple annuities, annuities due, deferred annuities, amortization of loans, bonds and sinking funds, and business investment decisions. Emphasis is placed on the application of mathematics in solving business-related problems. System Analysis & Design BTEC 201 Prerequisites: BTEC 102 This course introduces established and evolving methodologies for the analysis and design of an information system applications. Emphasis is placed on system characteristics, managing projects, prototyping, database design, and systems development life cycle phases. Upon completion, students should be able to analyze a problem and design an appropriate solution using a combination of tools and techniques. Financial Accounting I BTEC 202 Cross-listed with: BADM 102

3 Organizational Behavior I BTEC 203 Cross-listed with: BADM 203 Introduction to Statistics BTEC 205 Cross-listed with: BADM 103 Advanced Programming (Oracle Developer) BTEC 206 Prerequisites: BTEC 103 A basic study of oracle databases and their importance and applying the different techniques of DML and DDL, along with a brief introduction about SQL and PL SQL. Upon completion, students should be able to use Oracle to retrieve and update data using standard SQL statements Advanced Network Management BTEC 207 Prerequisites: BTEC 106 The goal of this course, along with BTEC 106 (Introduction to Network Management), is to provide an introduction to networking technologies and to prepare students to pass the Computer Technology Industry Association s (CompTIA) vendor-neutral Network+ certification exam. Topics covered include, routing, WANs, NOS, NetWare, Windows NT, TCP/IP, and troubleshooting, maintaining, and upgrading a network. Emphasis is on lectures, complimented with labs and student presentations as appropriate. Database Development BTEC 208 Prerequisites: BTEC 102, 103 An understanding of the general concepts of database management systems. Topics include an in-depth discussion of data modeling and relational database, ERD and design scheme. Labs involve practical experience in designing and building a database using recent DBMS software. Upon completion, students should be able to use DBMS application to create and manage databases Organizational Behaviour II BTEC 209 Prerequisites: BTEC 203 Cross-listed with: BADM 209

4 Introductory Managerial Accounting BTEC 210 Prerequisites: BTEC 202 Cross-listed with: BADM 105 Visual Basic BTEC 311 Prerequisites: BTEC 102, 103 This course introduces programming in Visual Basic, the popular Windows application development environment. Students will learn how to create object-oriented graphical user interfaces, Visual Basic forms, events, properties, and controls. in addition with the basic programming techniques including data types, looping, selections and some basic data structures including arrays. Upon completion, students should be able develop windows application using all basic VB techniques. Mid-Range Operating Systems BTEC 312 Prerequisites: BTEC 101, 102 This course is mainly about LINUX operating systems, it will provide hands-on experience with mid-range operating systems. The core of a mid-range operating system, utilities, multiuser logon management, system configuration, and file systems will be covered in depth. Upon completion, students should be able develop windows application using all basic VB techniques. Introduction to Public Communication BTEC 313 Cross-listed with: BADM 222 Students may receive credit for not more than one of the following communication courses: BADM 222, BTEC 313, ELEC 533, or CBU s COMM 115. Managerial Accounting BTEC 314 Prerequisites: BTEC 210 This course examines the study of accounting information systems along with the sources, uses, and analysis of financial data for planning and controlling operations. Topics include cost concepts and behavior, budgeting, cost control, measures of performance, profit planning and relevant costing, and management accounting for problem solving and decision making.

5 IT project Management BTEC 315 Prerequisites: BTEC 201 students will investigate project management and its role in the success of information technology projects. Topics covered include project selection methods, work breakdown structures, network diagrams, critical path analysis, cost estimates, earned value analysis and teambuilding. Upon completion, students should be able to use project management tools to plan and manage an information systems project in a team setting. Object Oriented Programming (JAVA) BTEC 316 The course Introduces the JAVA programming language. Topics include GUI interface development, object oriented programming concepts including class, objects, inheritance and polymorphism also it stressed on database access, platform independence, web integration, and implementing stand alone applications through the basic programming language techniques including looping, selection and basic data structure such as array. Upon completion, students should be able develop windows application using all basic JAVA techniques and methods. Windows Server Technologies BTEC 317 Prerequisites: BTEC 101, 102 This course provides a comprehensive investigation of the Windows network operating system. Topics covered include installation, configuration, managing accounts, client connectivity, managing groups, managing printers, remote access, virtual private networks, optimization, and troubleshooting. Upon completion, students should be able to install, manage and troubleshoot MS windows network OS in a small business environment. Information Technology Documentation BTEC 318 Prerequisites: ENGL 102 The course includes topics: audience analysis; challenges in today s workplace; job application process, including career portfolio development; dynamic business letters and memorandums; workplace etiquette; oral presentations and participation in meetings, and some grammar review. Upon completion, students should be able to write and orally present effective business reports, focusing on formal reports such as the proposal and feasibility study, and on informal reports such as inspection, field trip, and project completion, with some emphasis on manual and instruction writing, and the incorporation of graphics. Business Strategies in IT BTEC 319 Prerequisites: BTEC 102, 203, HUMN This course addresses the use of information technology (IT) to improve business strategies and performance topics include how organizations are changed with information system, basic business strategies, the management of business knowledge, applications systems architecture,

Upon completion, students should be understand the role of IT in business strategies Intermediate Technical Writing BTEC 420 Cross-listed with: BTEC 430 This course focuses on intermediate technical writing skills (reports, proposals, and instructions). E-commerce Technologies BTEC 421 Prerequisites: BTEC 206, 311 Cross-listed with: BTEC 433 This course provides the student with an overview of the state of e-commerce today. It defines e- commerce and e-business and discusses e-elements with introduction to e-marketing. Also addressed are issues and technologies available for companies wishing to engage in e-commerce and e-business. It will also provide security issues, payment issues. Upon completion, students should be able to understand the role of e-commerce in business success and able to design e- commerce website. Data Warehousing BTEC 422 The course is intended to provide a clear understanding on what data warehouse is, its architecture and its management, also this course intended to provide the clear understanding of ETL process, data quality, repository and data dictionary, also it intended to provide clear understanding of data warehouse roles and project team. It explores the definition, design, implementation and management of data warehouse, OLTP, OLAP, Data Mining. Upon completion, students should be able to understand the role of data warehousing in organization and able to understand the basic operation to manage it Current Issues in IT (Case Analysis) BTEC 423 Prerequisites: Years 1, 2 and 3 Cross-listed with: BTEC 436 This course examines the social, legal, and ethical issues involved with the use of computer technologies. Topics covered include privacy of information, wiretapping, data encryption, computer crime, intellectual property, and professional ethics. This course emphasizes class discussions, case studies, guest lectures, and student research presentations. Upon completion, students should be able to know the ethic codes related to the IT field.

7 Information Systems for Management BTEC 424 Prerequisites: BTEC 102, 210 Cross-listed with: BADM 321 Systems Implementation Project BTEC 425 Prerequisites: BTEC 315, 318 Cross-listed with: BTEC 437 Working as team members on an IT related project, students apply skills acquired in previous IT courses. The instructor adopts the role of IT manager as the student project groups assume responsibility for all aspects of project completion. Project teams are expected to work outside scheduled classroom hours to ensure that client project requirements are met. The project should be an application of most of the covered courses throughout the whole 4 years, the project should combine both networking, programming and business. The students are required to market for the project and submit a working application. Advanced TCP/IP BTEC 432 Prerequisites: BTEC 107, 207, 317 This course provides a comprehensive look at TCP/IP as used on the current Windows NOS platform. Topics covered include IP addressing and routing, Data Link and Network layer protocols, ICMP, DNS, DHCP, IPv6, securing TCP/IP, and SMTP. Upon completion, students should be able aware of advanced issues related to TCP/IP and its usage in business network environment E-commerce Technologies BTEC 433 Prerequisites: BTEC 206, 311 Cross-listed with: BTEC 421 Specialized Elective BTEC 434 WAN Technologies BTEC 435 The course will introduce the concepts of networking regarding the difference between a LAN and a WAN, how to create a WAN through several LANs. It also makes the students know how to connect to other networks and using router commands. 9 Server Technologies BTEC 438 Prerequisites: BTEC 105, 207 This advanced hardware course provides coverage of the key features and technologies involved with PC server administration, and the hardware components of high-end PC servers. Topics covered include server planning, server power and rack installation, hard disk interfaces and RAID, server upgrades, disaster planning, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting. This course prepares students to take the vendorneutral Server+ certification.
