Number Operations SCHOOL SYLLABUS Course Objectives: In 6 th grade, we will begin to: Apply the critical thinking skills needed to be proficient and successful for AP courses in high school. Emphasize higher-order thinking skills that challenge them to aim higher and achieve more Help them personalize and own their learning Encourage self-exploration and the application of learning strategies that work best for them as individuals State Standards: The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn. Here are the broad content areas of Mathematics for the 6 th grade: Ratios and Proportional Relationships The Number System Expressions and Equations Geometry Statistics and Probability For a more specific look at each content area, please visit: Click on Grade 6 on the left hand side of the webpage. EXPECTATIONS Classroom/School Expectations: Please see the 6 th grade Family Information Letter that was given on the first day of school. Tardy Policy Objective: Students will arrive on time for class, focused and prepared to learn. The classroom is the most important place for students to be. It is imperative that your child arrives on time to class.

3 Tardy Policy Procedures: 1. Students who arrive to class late will be admitted to class and marked late by the classroom teacher. 2. Students who are more than 5 minutes late for class will receive a phone call home from the teacher to inform parents of this behavior, and the teacher will document tardiness in ESIS notes. 3. Students who receive 2 phone calls for tardiness will be referred to an administrator for after school detention. 4. On the last day of each week, administration will identify students who have been late to class 3 or more times within the week. Those students will receive a parent letter informing of them of the tar dies. Discipline will proceed as follows: a. First Offense = Warning and Communication to Parent b. Second Offense = Detention, Tardy List, and Communication to Parent c. Third Offense = Detention, Tardy List and Communication with Parent d. Fourth Offense = In House Suspension, Tardy List, Communication with Parent and Loss of Privileges e. Fifth Offense TBD by Administration 5. Students who are listed on the tardy list will not be allowed hall passes for the following week of school. BE RESPONSIBLE! MATERIALS FOR COURSE/RESOURCES SpringBoard Middle School Math 1 student book SpringBoard Online will be discussed with students once it is ready to be used by the entire school. Every student will be given a log-in and password. 1 inch binder (for this class only) Notebook or loose leaf paper Pen or Pencil Morse Marshall agenda COURSE EVALUATION/EVIDENCE Student/parent friendly success criteria (rubrics) for all assessments Students will create a portfolio in class that holds all evidence and some practice of the standards taught/learned in class
