1 Schreiber Pediatric Rehab Center 1 Happy Anniversary Schreiber Pediatric! This year, celebrated 75 years of turning disabilities into abilities! It was a wonderful time to reflect on our history, as well as look towards a bright and prosperous future. William F. Jefferson, C.H.E., President Stephen Riley, Chairman, Board of Directors The Center has made tremendous strides since answering a call to action in our community in the early 1930 s. The Lancaster Rotary and a woman named Edna Schreiber saw a need therapeutic care in Lancaster County during the polio epidemic. Children and adults crippled by polio did not have access to orthopedic surgeons or brace clinics and something needed to change. The Lancaster County Society Crippled Children was founded in 1936, now known as Schreiber Pediatric Rehab Center. Edna s story is a shining example of one person making a big difference in our community. Her dedication and determination still serves as a beacon to the therapists and staff who continue to live out her legacy at Schreiber Pediatric each and every day. Because of Edna s titude, Lancaster is now home to one of only six nationally accredited outpatient pediatric facilities in the entire country! Of course, the Center and nearly 130,000 children seen in the last three-quarters of a century wouldn t be where they are today without the generous support of community members like yourself. Thank you believing in our mission to serve every child in need regardless of his or her family s financial situation. Because of you, we look ward to another seventy-five years of helping children in Lancaster County reach their full potential. William F. Jefferson Stephen Riley Mission Statement of Lancaster County is a not--profit organization that provides family-centered education and therapy programs infants, children and adolescents with congenital and acquired disabilities and developmental delays. Our goal-oriented approach maximizes each child s ability to function as independently as possible within the community.
