5 Installation Instructions 1.0 Description The 5420/90F is a 90 passive infrared sensor which is used as part of a Clipsal HomeSafe wireless security system. The sensor has the following features: true metre wide angle coverage look down creep zone SAWR stabilised radio transmitter high RF and ESD immunity high white light immunity adjustable range, pulse count & mounting height long life lithium battery supplied up to 50 metre wireless transmission range low battery warning signal hourly supervision radio signals. 5

6 90 Degree PIR Wireless Security Sensor 2.0 Mounting Location The 5420/90F is designed for indoor use only. The unit may be installed in a wall or corner location, mounted at a height of 2.1 to 3.1 metres. The normal recommended mounting height is 2.1 metres. Consider the following points when choosing a location to mount the unit: Ensure the detector has a clear line of sight to the area to be protected. Infrared energy does not pass through solid objects and is impeded by glass. Mount the detector in a location where an intruder is most likely to walk across the coverage pattern. Corner mounting usually gives the best coverage. Avoid direct sunlight, heating and cooling sources, and avoid areas of high humidity which may cause condensation on the lens. Always avoid metal surfaces which may shield RF transmissions. Before permanently mounting the sensor, conduct a wireless range test with the detector temporarily mounted in the intended position. 6

7 Installation Instructions 2.1 Wireless Range Test A preliminary wireless range test should be carried out before permanently mounting the detector. 1) Set the TEST jumper of the sensor to the On position and connect the battery. 2) Temporarily mount the sensor at the proposed mounting location. 3) Set the control panel to Signal Strength or Detector Test mode (refer to the Clipsal HomeSafe Installation and Programming manual). 4) Waive your hand in front of the sensor so that the red LED flashes. 5) Ensure the control panel has received the alarm signal and the signal strength is satisfactory. 6) Use the signal strength meter on the alarm panel as a guide to the best mounting position. Often, a small change in position can have a dramatic effect on wireless performance due to various environmental factors. If multiple wireless sensors are installed, ensure you do not get a false satisfactory signal strength reading triggered by another sensor. 7

8 90 Degree PIR Wireless Security Sensor 3.0 Installation and Testing 1) Open the detector housing (unclip the lid and swing it open). 2) Slide the circuit board up until the keyhole slot clears the retaining post. Pull the board away from the base, ensuring it clears the bottom hooks. 3) The base can be corner or flat surface mounted. Drill holes as required and mount the base, securely filling any gaps or holes with a flexible sealant such as silicone. 4) Replace the board and ensure the mounting height adjustment is set correctly. 5) Set the TEST jumper to the On position. 6) Set the RANGE and PULSE jumper to suit your application (refer to the Program Links section). 7) Connect the battery. 8) Replace the cover, (reverse the removal procedure). 9) Wait approximately 30 seconds for the detector to settle. 8

9 Installation Instructions 10) Walk test the coverage by walking slowly across the protected area. The red LED should indicate detection at a maximum of 3 to 4 walking steps at a distance of 10 metres from the detector. Stop and wait for the red LED to turn off before continuing the walk test. 11) If necessary, adjust the RANGE and PULSE jumpers to suit your installation. Always use the lowest Range and highest Pulse setting for any given area. Avoid the possibility of false alarms caused by setting the detector too sensitive for the environment. 4.0 Jumper Settings Jumper Off Jumpers On TEST PULSE RANGE Figure 1 - The PCB has three user-selectable jumpers 9

Disables the retransmit timer, allowing the detector to be walk tested without waiting for the 4 minute timer to expire. Set the TEST jumper to the Off position when you have finished testing. The sensor will automatically jump out of test mode after 30 minutes to conserve battery life if the unit is left in test mode. Pulse count. Selects two pulse count positions: On = 1 to 2 pulses or walk steps should cause an alarm Off = 3 to 4 pulses or walk steps should cause an alarm. The Range jumper selects the detection range. On = metre coverage Off = 9 9 metre coverage. 10

11 Installation Instructions 5.0 Battery Life 5.1 Low Battery To indicate a low battery condition, the red alarm light flashes every 2 seconds. This continues for 4 minutes each time the detector is triggered. The detector also transmits a low battery signal to the control panel. The low battery condition is triggered when the battery voltage sinks to approximately 7 volts under load. When replacing the battery, use only Ultralife Lithium U9VL or equivalent. Alkaline and carbon batteries are not recommended due to their shorter working life. 5.2 Retransmit Time To conserve battery life and limit unwanted wireless transmissions, the detector waits until all detectable movement in the area has ceased for at least 4 minutes before it will trigger and transmit a new alarm. This means that normal and constant movement in the room will not cause the detector to transmit multiple alarm signals. 11

Warranty Statement 1) The benefits conferred herein are in addition to, and in no way shall be deemed to derogate; either expressly or by implication, any or all other rights and remedies in respect to Clipsal Integrated Systems Product, which the consumer has under the Commonwealth Trade Practices Act or any other similar State or Territory Laws. 2) The warrantor is Clipsal Australia Pty Ltd of 12 Park Terrace, Bowden, South Australia, Telephone (08) With registered offices in all Australian States. 3) This Clipsal Integrated Systems Product is guaranteed against faulty workmanship and materials for a period of two (2) years from the date of installation. 4) Clipsal Australia Pty Ltd reserves the right, at its discretion, to either repair free of parts and labour charges, replace or offer refund in respect to any 14

15 Installation Instructions article found to be faulty due to materials, parts or workmanship. 5) This warranty is expressly subject to the Clipsal Integrated Systems Product being installed, wired, tested, operated and used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. 6) All costs of a claim shall be met by Clipsal Australia Pty Ltd, however should the product that is the subject of the claim be found to be in good working order, all such costs shall be met by the claimant. 7) When making a claim, the consumer shall forward the Clipsal Integrated Systems Product to the nearest office of Clipsal Australia Pty Ltd with adequate particulars of the defect within 28 days of the fault occurring. The product should be returned securely packed, complete with details of the date and place of purchase, description of load, and circumstances of malfunction.
