3 Exercise Scenario On a quite Sunday afternoon residents throughout Santa Barbara County begin to feel the force of a 6.8 magnitude earthquake occurring along the Santa Ynez Fault. Within two minutes the lives of thousands of the county s residents change forever as a foreseeable disaster unfolds.

4 Exercise Scenario In the days following the earthquake damage assessment information verifies that hundreds of homes have been so gravely damaged that they can never be used again. Public utilities in and around Solvang, Buelton and Lompoc have been damaged and it will take several weeks in some areas to bring them back on-line.

5 Exercise Scenario As the earthquake response activities begin to transition into recovery operations, the partner organizations and churches comprising the Santa Barbara County VOAD can be found coordinating recovery activities to meet the disaster caused needs of the county s residents.

6 Exercise Directive Santa Barbara County California October 21 9:00AM 12:00PM PDST In the aftermath of earthquakes the county s churches, organizations and clubs have a history of stepping forward to assist with the recovery efforts of individuals and families. In an effort to enhance the teamwork and capabilities of the county s community, civic and faith based organizations to provide vital disaster recovery services, the Santa Barbara County Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) has undertaken the coordination of an innovative disaster learning experience entitled Shake Out Santa Barbara County An Earthquake Recovery Tabletop Exercise. During this exercise local churches and non-governmental organizations will be simulating the activities associated with Santa Barbara County s recovery from a 6.8 magnitude earthquake occurring along the Santa Ynez Fault. The purpose of this exercise is to evaluate and enhance the ability of various faith, civic and community based organizations as they work together in a coordinated effort to meet the disaster recovery needs of the county s residents who have sustained personal loss due to Santa Ynez Valley earthquake. With the mission of better preparing Santa Barbara County for future disasters, the Santa Barbara County VOAD asks that its members give their support to this important learning opportunity by registering to participate in the Shake Out Santa Barbara County Tabletop Exercise today.
