4 Calculations At the heart of Amulet is a powerful calculation engine capable of performing the most complex of calculations and logical operations. Every C3 global oil and gas system comes preconfigured with the appropriate industry specific calculations built in. So whether it s corrosion, integrity or chemical management, the necessary calculations and reports are ready to go once they are connected to the correct data sources. calculations or models. Data can be viewed over time periods from seconds to years and compared over time periods such as this month against last month or this time last year. Live data feeds can also be plotted in real time when required. Visualisation The key to making data useful is visualisation. In addition to extensive graphing and charting tools Amulet also provides powerful and easy-touse data visualisation tools. Amulet is capable of handling and representing geospatial data based on latitude and longitude or Grid position. It can interface with GPS/GPRS tagged equipment and report and display position on a map interface in real time. Measured and/or calculated data can be associated with these locations and also displayed on a map-based interface. In addition P&ID tagged CAD drawings can be referenced and displayed inside Amulet once again associated with data which can be overlaid on the drawings. Process diagrams such as that shown below can also be used and data again can be overlaid on the image. This visualisation capability can be delivered on the desktop, via the Web or on smart devices such as PDAs, iphones or Blackberries. All standard graphical formats are supported as are IE, Firefox and Opera Web browsers. Dashboards Dashboards are an increasingly useful way to distribute data and information within an organisation. This means that managers, engineers, chemists and technicians can all have their own view of the data. These dashboards are available on the desktop via a web browser. Customisation is easy if you have the necessary permissions, although many of our clients leave this level of customisation to their IT departments for data security reasons. No programming or database knowledge is required to build dashboards. Dashboards are limited only by your imagination. They can be graphical (as in the example below), purely text-based or even contain photographs or video. Dashboards give users whatever it is they need to be more effective in their job. Reporting Most data needs to be included in a report at some time or another. Amulet makes the task of reporting very efficient. Once set up the production 5

6 Features summary of reports can be automated. Amulet clients have saved days off reporting time each month by making best use of the automatic reporting tools. The average saving across the users of the application has been reported as 50% of engineers time. Amulet has wizards for helping you produce reports and can output reports straight into Word or Excel. Reports can be posted automatically onto company intranet portals or Share-point repositories. Since Amulet runs on an Oracle or MS SQL Server database all standard third party reporting products can also be used to produce reports. All reports, however they are produced, can be posted to the web, ed, or sent to smart phones and devices automatically, either as a one off or regularly scheduled event. 8 Production chemistry, Chemical Management and Stock control The Amulet Production Chemical Management System has one goal in life: To allow you to apply the correct chemicals at the optimal rate to deliver best and continuous operating performance. In support of that goal Amulet enables users to move away from anecdotal observations towards evidence-based decision making. Everyone on the team shares the same information and can clearly identify linked events. Thus the production, petroleum and process engineers, chemists, corrosion and integrity engineers can share objective knowledge and experience in pursuit of safe production goals. The people involved in these processes have an unenviable task of collating data from many different systems in order to understand data and manipulate it into meaningful information. Chemical data may be in on-shore and offshore spreadsheets, process data may be in control or data historians, lab analyses will be in a LIMS system or in Excel format. 9 Environmental Monitoring and Emissions Control Closely related to the Amulet Chemical Management system, this module allows the user to measure, manage and report on the environmental impact of production activities from a chemical and emissions standpoint. Amulet can automate the process of recording and reporting chemical use, discharge and emissions to meet legislative demands. To avoid duplication, it makes sense to transform the data gathered for production purposes into reports required by Government institutions. Used in this way environmental compliance can be tied to daily production activity. Deterioration processes such as fatigue cracking and corrosion are always present to some degree. The challenge facing engineers is to ensure that the integrity of engineered systems, for instance, offshore structures, pipelines and process systems, is maintained throughout the anticipated service life. The Amulet Integrity Management system is designed to manage this process. Developed in 9

10 close co-operation with leading oil & gas companies the system provides all the necessary tools for effective integrity management. inspection reports are stored in the database and as searchable electronic documents along with any other form of media. Amulet has always been used as a data repository for inspection data and supports all the usual data loggers and inspection techniques. However, working with our clients showed there was an obvious need for a new approach to integrity management and a new module was developed from the ground up, in collaboration with some of the leaders in the field of integrity. Rather than attempt to re-invent an inspection database this module has been designed to map to the process of management rather than force people just to input data. A web-based data entry system uses the Amulet calculations engine to derive all important parameters relating to a line or asset and from this calculate an optimum inspection frequency for each line. Templates are employed so that any new asset in a corrosion circuit can be easily added with minimum input. The physical properties and process information are fed through a full range of models for risk and consequence for corrosion, fatigue, erosion, cavitation, cracking and deadleg corrosion. The output from this is a minimum inspection interval and, from the history, an inspection due date. The Amulet SAIMs module was built working directly with subsea integrity engineers to meet the specific requirements of the subsea industry. 11 risk assessment and inspection databases. These are all linked and allow for any detailed search to be undertaken as well as effective tracking of anomalies and inspections. All this data is linked through a graphical interface making the process of managing the data simple and intuitive. The system meets all the requirements for managing a subsea asset in that it identifies and processes relevant asset data, establishes current asset condition, implements integrity management strategies and demonstrates the process of risk management. This includes control systems, SCADA packages, data historians, manually raised events and even alarms generated by other Amulet modules. The module discovers patterns from the alarms generated and uses this information to predict failures and enable route cause analysis. Statistical analysis of alarms is a powerful, and often under-utilised, aspect of asset management. In addition, Amulet s own alarm management tools can be used to produce soft alarms based on derivations of one of more inputs. By this means rogue or ambiguous alarms can be removed from the system and intelligence can be built in to provide qualified information to the operators to act on. The alarm module can handle huge quantities of alarm data. One of our client s real time Amulet systems processes 4.5 million alarms and events every year. Analysis of these alarms has reduced the number of unnecessary work orders raised by almost 70%. Integrity Operating Window Many of our customers have adopted a process of defining a safe Integrity Operating Window and using Amulet to ensure that they continue to operate their assets within this defined window. We have adapted Amulet to support this process and it has now become one of our optional modules.
