Public partner for innovative companies, or companies that plan to integrate innovation projects to grow, in the priority sectors of the Brussels Capital Region (ICT, Life Tech, Green Tech, Sustainable construction); smart specialisation perspective. Continuous technology watch Innovative companies can benefit from an individual coaching for their business development, Financing and HR issues, specific training. The department coordinates regional clusters initiatives : stimulate synergies between members, create a critical mass to increase individual companies visibility, and to get competitive financing from EC; partnership with other EU clusters.

Software Development The software market has become one of the most promising technology sector thanks to its concentration of high-level academic institutions and competence centers for software development technologies. Most of our Brussels-based software companies offer world-class solutions that are sold all over Europe and beyond. The Market Belgian Software Development market represents 3% of European Market. Many companies have embraced the SaaS model and are heavily looking at markets outside of Belgium. Many software developers have a sectorial approach to their development. (see table)

10 ICT Business Unit THE «SOFTWAREINBRUSSELS» CLUSTER The Cluster is an initiative of the Brussels Enterprise Agency supported by the Brussels Minister of Economy, Export, Employment and Research. The objective is to facilitate and reinforce drastically the economic development and the competitiveness of the Brussels-Capital region. The cluster gathers close to 100 high-growth potential software companies, research institutions, incubators and support organizations dedicated to the Brussels software industry. MISSION The mission of the SoftwareInBrussels Cluster is to: Create and support a dynamic ecosystem to catalyze effective collaboration among business, academic and research institutions, investors, governments and support organizations active in the software industry. Propose custom-made supports and collective actions to respond to the specific needs of high-potential software companies in order to accelerate their growth and boost their competitiveness. Reinforce locally and internationally the visibility of Brussels software editors by promoting their capacity to create substantial added-value through various communication tools, international events and European partnerships.

11 Life Technologies Business Unit BRUSSELS LIFE TECHNOLOGIES SECTOR Companies Expertise & services Pharma Biotech Medical technologies 300 companies active in Life Technologies (biotech, pharma, medical technologies), 84 of these companies are active in R&D, production or expertise and services linked to these sectors. 35 (42%) active in medical technologies, 12 (14%) in Pharma, 12 (14%) in biotech and 25 (30%) in expertise & services. Research 3 main universities (ULB, UCL, VUB) 1 Haute Ecole, the Meurice Institute 5 university hospitals researchers Incubation Incubation infrastructures have been created on the initiative of the Brussels-Capital Region in order to help start-ups and spin-offs.

12 Life Technologies Business Unit THE BRUSSELS LIFETECH CLUSTER The Brussels LifeTech Cluster is a non-profit initiative of the LifeTechnologies Business Unit of the Brussels Enterprise Agency. The Brussels LifeTech Cluster's mission is to support the life technologies sector in the Brussels-Capital Region. Our objective is to ensure that the life technologies remain a strong driver of economic growth in the region, attracting new R&D companies, investors, and service & technology providers. The Brussels LifeTech Cluster brings together companies with innovative, R&D-driven activities in the life technologies (active in the biotechnological, pharmaceutical or medical technologies sectors) that are based in Brussels but also academic research institutes and support organisations. MISSION The mission of the Brussels LifeTech Cluster is to stimulate, accelerate and develop the competitiveness of the companies and «start-ups» mainly on our priority thematics promote and facilitate international marketing of the cluster members. stimulate "added value" interactions between the cluster members to create synergies, complementarities and all relevant collective initiatives. create, with all regional partners, an adequate environment for innovation and the development of the sector.

13 Life Technologies Business Unit THE BRUSSELS LIFETECH CLUSTER INDIVIDUAL APPROACH Among the cluster activities, the Brussels LifeTech Cluster develops different kinds of services for the Brussels biotech, pharma or medical technologies players: technology and commercial partnerships, strategic information, project validation, industry-university collaboration, participation to international events, communication tools development,... COLLECTIVE APPROACH The clustering strategy of the Brussels LifeTech Cluster is based on 4 axis of development: Visibility : Promote the expertise of cluster members, academic institutions and organizations nationally and internationally Internationalisation: The Brussels LifeTech Cluster promotes the internationalisation of its members through the participation to the main international events like MEDICA in Dusseldorf or BIO US. The cluster organises also technico-commercial missions. The EEN network is a support to foster the internationalisation through partner search and support regarding the European programs and funding. Inter-clusters meetings. Cluster meetings: Each month a cluster meeting is organised to group the Brussels actors of the LifeTech sector. Projects and synergies: Strengthen the synergies and collaborations between the regional actors and facilitate exchanges and partnerships abroad. 14 Life Technologies Business Unit THE BRUSSELS LIFETECH CLUSTER Focus on 2 specific themes European trends, in matters of clusters, is to focus on topics to consolidate the majority of regional actors. Considering these trends the Cluster will focus on two priority themes. The mapping of the Brussels actors, the critical mass and the market interpenetration leads the Brussels LifeTech Cluster to consider crosscutting thematics: the clinical trials and telemetry.
