11 National Statistics 1. Nearly 1 in 3 students is involved in Bullying. 2. While school violence as a whole is declining, bullying behaviors have increased. 3. Kids who are obese, gay, or have disabilities are up to 63% more likely to be bullied. 4. Boys and girls get bullied in different ways.

24 Tips to Prevent Cyber-bullying Refuse to pass along cyber-bullying messages. Tell their friends to stop cyber-bullying. Block communication with cyberbullies; delete messages without reading them Never post or share their personal information online (including full name, address, telephone number, school name, parents names, credit card number, or Social Security number) or their friends personal information. Never share their Internet passwords with anyone, except you. Talk to you about their life online. Not put anything online that they wouldn't want their classmates to see, even in . Not send messages when they re angry. Always be as polite online as they are in person. Source: National Crime Prevention Council

25 Cyberbullying A Recent Survey of Teens Revealed Cyberbullying was experienced at least one time by 43% of teens, aged 13 to 17. Teens report that in 77% of the cases the cyberbully is someone they know. Girls claim to have been cyberbullied more than boys 51% to 37%. NCPC Cyberbullying Research Report 25

26 Types of Cyberbullying Flaming Online fighting that can get nasty through posting of angry, vulgar, and degrading messages. Backstabbing The bully pretends to be the victim s friend, then turns on him or her by posting or sharing things that make their victim feel hurt, ashamed, and embarrassed. Faking The bully becomes the victim online. The bully uses a false identity and makes people believe that victim is posting the messages.

27 Harassing The bully is constantly sending ugly, slanderous, and insulting messages online. Exiling The bully seeks to exclude and ban the victim from social gatherings and friendships by portraying the victim as an outcast. Blackmailing Threatening to share personal information with others. Ostracizing Intentionally excluding someone online.

28 Messaging The bully uses others to deliver their mean and crude messages. Leveling The cyberbully feels that the victim has done them wrong and they re out to get even. Sexual Harassing - The cyberbully intentionally uses intimidation and coercion of a sexual nature. This can include inappropriate posts, texts, pictures, regarding sexual orientation, or unwelcome harmful sexual information shared online. Sexting, if transferred into the wrong hands, can turn into cyber sexual harassment.
