6 Cost of Living Education Scottsdale, one of Arizona s 10 largest cities, is a premiere visitor location as well as a tremendous place to live do business. Housing in Scottsdale is loosely divided into four areas: South Scottsdale (McKellips Road north to Thomas Road), Old Town (Downtown) Scottsdale, Central Scottsdale (also known as the Shea Corridor, extending from Camelback Road north to Shea Boulevard), North Scottsdale. Each area has unique distinctive Vibes allowing options for a wide range of budgets lifestyles. There are 41 private schools in Scottsdale serving 3,427 students. The student /teacher ratio of 6:1 is lower than the state private school average of 9:1. For those with special needs children, Scottsdale offers a significant array of private schools to meet your needs such as Devereux - Arizona, Gateway Academy Brightmount Academy (Special Program, K-12, one-on-one instruction). South Scottsdale has seen a resurgence in the last 10 years with the development of the Arizona State University SkySong Innovation Center. This Center has grown as a result of collaboration between the university, local business global companies. The development has attracted the research development arms of a number of international corporations which has created many new urban developments to this area. With more than 1,500 employees on-site several new luxury multifamily developments within a mile or less, this is a burgeoning area. Downtown (Old Town) Scottsdale provides a mix of specialty retail, art galleries, dining to suit every taste, legendary nightlife, public art cultural attractions with broad appeal. More than a tourism destination, it is also the city s second largest employment center a budding hub for technology healthcare companies. Since 2010, well over $400 million of private investment has been made in Downtown Scottsdale involving residential, retail, hotel office developments. Over 1,875 new multifamily residential units have been recently completed or are in the final planning process. While housing values in this area are appreciating at a more rapid pace than other areas of the city, they remain dramatically more affordable than in comparison regions such as San Francisco, Austin, or Boulder. Shea Corridor is considered the central region of Scottsdale. A number of communities in this area are among the most desired residential areas in the metropolitan area, including Gainey Ranch McCormick Ranch. A large portion of Scottsdale Road south of Shea Boulevard has been dubbed the Resort Corridor for the high number of resorts located on the street. The Cure Corridor, the city s Bio-Life Science hub employing over 28,000 healthcare professionals, is located along Shea Boulevard north on Scottsdale Road to the Scottsdale Airpark. North Scottsdale is currently one of the most actively developed areas in the city. This area claims many of the most luxurious homes in Arizona, with many exceeding $5 million in value. The Scottsdale Airpark, one of the largest employment centers in the Greater Phoenix area, anchors this portion of the community is home to over 55,000 employees 2,600 companies.
