1 Diploma in Nursing Informatics: The Proposed structure (Duration: One year) 1. Total intake of student - 10 per year(excluding Sponsored Candidates two per year) 2. Eligibility (Qualification - The following minimum qualifications & experience ) Bachelor Degree / Diploma in Nursing from recognized institution. 3. Age - Maximum 30 years, relaxation as per Govt. rules 4. Fee structure (Inclusive final exam fee) - No age limit for sponsored candidates Rs. 20,000/- per year (no stipend to be given) NRI Candidates - Rs. 1,00,000/- or Equivalent Foreign Currency (no stipend to be given) 5. Reservations applied to seats - As per Govt. rules 6. Entrance Examination: To be conducted at National level (There will no entrance exm. for NRI & Sponsored Candidates. Selection will be based on their Credentials) Pattern: MCQ - Total mark: Total no. of theory questions Pass out marks (cut off line) General Category Reserved Category 50 % 45 % 9. 2 11. Pedagogy As follows The one year course will be conducted by the following methods: Lectures Group work & Presentations Live Demonstration Practical Assignments 12. Exit Examination Pattern: At the end of each semester (One semester 06 months) Written Examination ( Descriptive, Short notes, MCQ, Fill in the blanks ); Two Papers of 100 marks each ( Paper I - Basic &Technology, Paper II Applications ) Practical & Viva Voce Exam: 100 marks 13. Eligibility to appear in the Exit Exm. - Minimum 80 % attendance 14. For failed Candidates: The student has to take up again as supplementary exam to be held after 8 weeks. Faculty/ Resource Teaching Staff: SGPGIMS, Lucknow School of Telemedicine & Biomedical Informatics, SGPGI, lucknow Visiting Faculty / Teaching Staff -Reputed Nursing Colleges / Institutes of Country and overseas - Nursing Council of India Course Description: Nursing informatics is the multidisciplinary scientific endeavour of analyzing, formalizing and modelling how nurses collect and manage data, process data into information and knowledge, make knowledge-based decisions and inferences for patient care, and use empirical and experiential knowledge to in order to broaden the scope and enhance the quality of their professional practice Nursing informatics has assumed a role in healthcare that ensures that data collected by nurses along with clinical knowledge is structured in a way that it is acceptable and accessible to other areas of healthcare. 2 6

3 Objectives of the course: 1. Develop a general understanding of computer hardware and software, programming languages and networks. 2. Become familiar with the concepts and terminology associated with nursing informatics. 3. Enhance informatics skills that support nursing roles. 4. Review historical and theoretical foundations of advanced nursing roles. 5. Discuss education principles that apply to advanced nursing roles implementation. 6. Perform a rural community-based needs assessment using basic research skills. 7. Plan advanced nursing interventions to address identified needs within the rural community environment. 8. Develop an approach to families appropriate for advanced nursing role implementation. 9. Discuss basic concepts and principles of care management. 10. Predict future developments for Nursing Informatics in practice, education, administration and research. Expectations from the Students: Produce an electronic & informatics portfolio to showcase the following : 1. Power Point presentation. 2. Internet directory of advanced nursing practice websites with evaluative comments. 3. Write a proposal for marketing strategies related to an advanced nursing role. 4.
