2 An Introduction Welcome to the training component for the Communities Collaborating Institute Online Community! This learning package is designed to help Institute participants get started with the online component of their learning and grow as a collaborative leader within the context of a deliberate community of practice. We acknowledge that there may be some anxiety when it comes to online Technologies, but we are here to provide support in this exciting journey of collaboration. This training component is an introduction to the online learning community, designed to get you started by logging in, setting up your personal profile and blogging. Most learning will come from engaging with the space over time.
3 About the Online Community IGLOO is an international network that uses an online knowledge exchange to promote creativity and improve the connections of people, information and processes. myigloo is the personal space for members in the IGLOO network. This is where members can manage their profile, blog, library, community and more. Use this space to reflect on and manage your personal learning journey. Components of myigloo can be made private. Communities Collaborating Institute Online Community is the shared space where Institute participants will meet, interact, share and learn together. Most sections in this community are visible only to Institute participants, with sections that are visible only to your pod members. E.g. your pod forum.
4 How to log into myigloo Visit At the top right-hand corner of your screen, click the Sign In link. Enter your address and the temporary password: cci789 Click the Sign In button to log into myigloo.
5 myigloo Welcome to myigloo, your personal online space. On this page, you will find the following navigation links on the left-hand side of your screen. Home This link will return you to your main page when navigating within myigloo. Library Use this section to store your knowledge pieces. Citations Use this space to cite documents used throughout your profile. Bibliographies Use this space to create a simple or annotated bibliography to reference your documents. Communities This space lists the communities that you belong to. Communities Collaborating is the online community you will be using to learn with others. You can also access this community from your main page (Home) in myigloo. Blogs This space lists the blogs you have created and have access to. Eventually, you will see your personal blog, as well as the Communities Collaborating Blog (the Institute s community blog). Profile Settings Use this space to enter and manage your personal information. You may make components of your profile public or private.
6 myigloo Sharing Your Knowledge Pieces Use the library in myigloo to store and publish your knowledge pieces. As a Communities Collaborating Institute participant, you are required to share at least three knowledge pieces in this space. To organize your knowledge pieces in a folder, click Add Folder. Name your folder appropriately (e.g. John s Knowledge Pieces) and click Done. To add a knowledge piece to this folder, select the appropriate folder and click Add Document. Click the Browse button to search for the document on your computer or network. Once you have selected your document, click Done. To add a link to your library, click Add Link. Type in the name and web address (starting with Click Done. Your knowledge pieces are not visible until you make them public. To do this, click on the small arrow beside the document that you would like to make public. A drop down menu will appear. From the drop down menu, select Publish to Profile.
7 myigloo Communities The communities that you belong to are listed in this space. Click on a community name (i.e. Community Collaborating) to go directly to its homepage. You can also enter a community from the main page (Home) of myigloo.
8 myigloo Start Blogging! As a Communities Collaborating Institute participant, you are required to blog on a monthly basis. Use your personal blog to write about your personal learning journey. This space is viewable to members of the IGLOO community. Use the Communities Collaborating Blog to blog with other Institute participants about each other s learning journey. This space is also viewable to members of the IGLOO community. To create your personal blog, click on the Create Blog link. You will be prompted to enter your blog title (i.e. John s Learning Blog), a tagline and description, as well as a unique web address (i.e. jdoeblog). Once you have provided the required information, press the Done button. To post in your blog or the Communities Collaborating Blog, click the New Post link. Enter a title and short summary for your post in the appropriate fields, and enter the content of your post in the text editor. If you are satisfied with your post, click Publish. Otherwise, click Save as Draft to edit at a later time.
9 myigloo Updating Your Profile Use this space to enter and manage your personal information. As a Communities Collaborating Institute participant, we ask that you include your name, photo and address (at minimum) in order to help others connect with you. You may make other components of your profile public or private. Personal Information Fill in the fields with your personal information and then click the Done button. Password We encourage you to change your password from the temporary that has been provided. To do so, click on the Password link to the left-hand side of your screen. Enter and confirm your new password in the appropriate fields. Please note: Tamarack is unable to retrieve your new password if you have forgotten it. Photo We ask that you upload a photo of yourself in order to help other Institute participants connect with you. To do so, click on the Photo link to the left-hand side of your screen. Click Browse to locate the photo on your computer or network. Once you have selected your photo, click Done. Resume To upload your resume, click on the Resume link to the left-hand side of your screen. Click Browse to select the file on your computer or network. Once you have selected your resume, click Done. IMPORTANT Components of your profile will not be visible to others until you specify which sections can be public. To make your profile visible to the public, click on the Public Profile link to the left-hand side of your screen. Select the boxes beside the components you would like visible to the public (at least: name, picture, address). When you are finished, click Done.
10 Member Directory The Member Directory provides a complete listing of all members in the Communities Collaborating Institute's Online Community, including participants, Tamarack staff and the staff of our technical provider. Communities Collaborating Institute Online Community Return to the main page (Home) of myigloo by clicking the Home link to the left-hand side of your screen. Enter the Communities Collaborating Institute Online Community by selecting the Communities Collaborating link under Communities. In the future, you can reach this community directly by logging into Home When navigating within the Institute s online community, this link will return you to the main page. Community Blog This blog is a space for Institute participants to connect, share and learn together. You must still create your own blog to document your individual learning journey. Blogs are visible to all IGLOO members. To begin blogging in this space, click View All Posts. Events Calendar Use the Event Calendar to post events for other community members to view, such as your pod's learning sessions, and to find out more about upcoming events at Tamarack and elsewhere. Forums Use the Forums to facilitate collaboration between your pod and community members on specific issues. Your Pod Forum is a private space to collaborate with other members of your pod. The Community Forum is visible to all Institute participants. Gallery Use the Gallery to view, store and share images with other Institute participants. The images in this space are visible to Institute participants only. Key Documents Use the Key Documents space to store, organize and share your documents, folders and links with members of your pod and with other members of the community. Your pod folder is a private space to share documents with other membesr of your pod. Other folders are visible to all Institute participants. You will find helpful documents for using the online community in the FAQs folder.
11 The learning continues This online space is designed to advance the skills of collaborators and practitioners, and to help make the work of renewing communities easier and more effective. We acknowledge that this, along with everyone s understanding of the online technology, will be an evolving process. Tamarack staff is here to support you in this process. For additional technical support, please visit the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) folder in the Key Documents section of the Institute s online community. To help you get started, a training session can be organized within your pod. Pod liaisons can contact Louise (louise@tamarackcommunity.ca) at Tamarack to organize a training session with their pod.
