GROWING THROUGH CONTRIBUTING HKU has played a big role in my personal development. Last summer, I participated in a service trip organized by Connecting Myanmar and taught basic journalism theory to around twenty Burmese migrant students in Thailand. I was so glad that I could share my experience and knowledge with young people from my home country. During this trip I developed a deeper sense of responsibility to my community. The professors and tutors in my classes have been passionate and enthusiastic about their work and the subject they teach, which makes me all the more motivated to get involved and participate in their classes. I am never hesitant to approach my teachers after classes because they are very friendly and willing to help out with any questions. Professors are genuinely on approach to learning also makes studying at HKU more enjoyable and enriching. For example, in a poverty class I was taking, we were asked to participate in the Live below the Line challenge, where we had to reflect on what it is like to sustain ourselves under a limit of 10 HKD per day! U.K. Bachelor of Arts EXCITING HALL LIFE During my first year at HKU I got to live in Lady Ho Tung Hall. Hall life here is definitely a whole new experience! I found the atmosphere and orientation activities very welcoming, especially for new international students. Our regular floor dessert and the floor meetings always resulted in great get-togethers. Over time, you develop a really strong connection and attachment to your hall. I participated in the Badminton Team and I absolutely loved every single part of it. I got to make many new friends and my favorite part was when we would go to have dinner or dessert after practice. The superpass practice with the superpass dinner was also wonderful. We all ate together and played with the graduates wishing each other luck! I spent a full academic year at Oxford, funded by a Dr. Serena Yang Scholarship. I participated in all the college activities and tutorial system at Oxford. I joined one of the cognitive neuroscience labs there, in which I was inspired not only by world leading researchers, admitted to Wadham College, my home at Oxford, the place where I spent most of my evenings with college mates, sipping tea and shooting the breeze.
