Masaryk University The Masaryk University (founded in 1919) is presently one of the most significant educating and scientific institutions in the Czech Republic, an acknowledged Central European University and the most sought after University in the Czech Republic in the last couple of years. Currently, it consists of 9 faculties and more than 200 departments, institutes and clinics and offers more than study programs with more than of enrolled students. Science and research are one of the basic priorities of the Masaryk University. That is why the University invests extraordinary funds for developing research and teaching capacities. At the level of Masaryk University, there have been 500 research projects executed so far, while its scientists publish hundreds of expert articles each year. The amount of more than EUR has been spent on research as the part of various programs. Masaryk University places a special emphasis on international cooperation with prestigious universities and scientific institutes from abroad. It advocates a constant exchange of knowledge, ideas and information with educating and scientific institutions worldwide. The scientists from the USA, Germany, the Great Britain, and France belong to the most frequent MU cooperates. Based on its scientific production and quality of its graduates, the Faculty belongs to the leading Central European academic workplaces. Education provided by the Faculty is the demonstration of a high European standard grounded on the long term cooperation with universities in England, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and the USA. The Faculty offers a friendly environment, modernly equipped laboratories, top professionals, and contacts with universities from the whole world. It is one of the most wanted faculties specialized in education and research of social studies in the Czech Republic. 3 Energy Security Studies Program The program reacts on the demand arriving from the public and private sector, aiming to provide highly qualified graduates capable to critically analyze the situation arising in the field of production, consumption or transport of energy with regard to the related economic and political issues. The curriculum of the Program is centered around the analysis of EU and Central Europe energy markets, impacts of the new trends in energy sector, new actors at energy markets and dynamics of relations arising between the leading world producers, consumers, and transit countries. In addition to these topics, the lectures also focus on environmental, technical, economic, and legal aspects of energetics. The attention is also turned to theoretical approaches to the problem and research methods. Program, therefore, sets a goal to provide students with complex education necessary for their engagement in the fields where energy policy is created and implemented. Most of the lecturers are are the leading experts for energy-related issues and for Czech and foreign energy security, well familiar with affairs taking place in the private and state sector. 4 Cooperation Research and lecturing are run by the leading experts from research institutions, universities, think-tanks, and energy companies from the Czech Republic, Central Europe, the USA, and other countries. The participating research institutes, universities and think-tanks: Brookings Institution (USA) Central European University (Hungary) Centre for Eastern Studies (Poland) Collegium Civitas (Poland) Energy Institute at University of Texas in Austin (USA) Oxford Institute for Energy Studies (Great Britain) Prague Security Studies Institute (Czech Republic/USA) Rice University (USA) and others. The participating energy companies and state agencies: 50Hertz (Germany) ČEZ (Czech Republic) MOL Group (Hungary) The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic RWE (Germany-Czech Republic) Power Exchange Central Europe (Czech Republic ) and others. The number of University students going abroad for a study visit is constantly increasing. Together with nearly 200 students of the Faculty it reaches students annually. Employment Graduates can find their employment at many different positions at various institutions: Energy companies, diplomatic services International organizations (particularly the eu and associated agencies) State administration Political parties Media Think-tanks Research institutions and universities etc. The successful graduates obtain a Europe-wide recognized title Mgr., prospectively also (upon request) an internationally recognized title M.A. Student mobility As the part of the Erasmus program, the University has more than 120 agreements signed across the entire Europe, while the further opportunities may be found in the form of intergovernmental scholarships, partner universities, ISEP programs, Erasmus Mundus Action II, CEEPUS, AKTION or University membership in international networks Utrecht Network and Compostela Group. The Faculty, furthermore, supports the participation of students and academic workers in international conferences, workshops and summer schools or international gatherings as the part of research projects. 5 Brno Brno, the capital of the Czech province of Moravia, is an ideal base for students wishing to study in Central Europe. The second largest city in the Czech Republic (pop ), it is large enough to possess all the benefits of a major European center, but small enough to retain its coziness and charm. The city s historical center echoes that of Vienna, complete with cobblestone pedestrian zones and fascinating architecture spanning the whole period from the Middle Ages to the present day. Brno is known for its rich cultural life, so there we can find a vast number of theatres, cinemas, and clubs as well as cafes and restaurants specialized in local and world dishes. The localities surrounding Brno are appropriate for winter and summer tourism and offer a lot of places where to go in the search for cultural or sport activities. A popular touristic attraction is a cave region of karst region lying at the north from Brno or large vineyards interwoven with plentiful cycling paths at the south. Brno is conveniently situated nearby several regional capitals. Prague, Vienna and Bratislava are less than 2 hours drive away, to Budapest or Berlin it is 5 or 8 hours respectively. tuition fees is euro per semester (3 000 euro per year or euro for the whole degree program). The fee covers tuition, student administration, course readers, e-learning, WWW access to electronic versions of study materials and other digital resources, access to the library, computers and other University facilities.
