Advances in smart grid technology benefit customers AMR pilot 1st generation AMR roll-out Outage information Smart home E-mobility 2nd generation AMR roll-out Energy Efficiency Network quality Small scale generation Mobile application for customer service 3rd generation of AMR meters
Service in power outages through information Network automation, customer information, telephone systems and online service integrated to produce customer-specific information Same up-to-date and transparent information available for customer service, network control centre, customers and media Real-time outage map service on Free power outage information to customers via text message and Possibility to check customer s situation during phone call in case of faults 4
Energy Reporting Service Hourly-level monitoring of consumption data Data in kilowatt hours and euros Outside temperature and comparison groups Values are shown in 1-2 days delay Transparency to customers energy consumption and billing More efficient use of energy Quick information 24/7 Fulfilling of regulatory demands (2014)
Hourly data of electricity consumption
Development of Smart Grid at Elenia Smart control Network automation - Overhead lines Field communication FLIR Smart substations 3 4 Centralized and standardized outage management Faster fault location and isolation, reduction of affected customers Outage information FieldCom project AMR-DMS Automatic fault location, isolation and power restoration in medium voltage networks Network automation - Cable network - Centralized protection - Self-healing network sections - Camera monitoring and fully automated access control Low voltage automation Real-time services to customers, media and society Utilization of AMR queries and alarms in outage management Task management Smart functionality and interfaces for partners Remotely controllable kiosk type secondary substations, disconnectors and breakers Secondary substation monitoring and controllable LV breakers
Utilising smart metering in network monitoring Smart electricity meters combined with grid IT systems enable monitoring of low-voltage network Possibility to verify that customer s electricity is on To identify zero and phase faults as well as faults in the customer s network To locate conductor breaks in mediumvoltage network Shorter power outages Efficient operations Improved customer service Less unnecessary customer visits Improved safety Electricity network monitored with automation using technology Network previously monitored with automation Medium-voltage Area network Substations Distribution network transformers Low-voltage network Customers
Smart Grid and weatherproof network 9
Energy losses in distribution network in Elenia AMR technology is used to measure network losses (hourly measures) Purchase of network losses has been based on hourly measures since April 2012 in Elenia Measured network losses increase transparency between DSOs and retailers and between DSOs and electricity market Information about network losses can be used in: Netowork planning Netowork operating Controlling of administrative losses DISTRIBUTION LOSSES All energy that is fed into distribution network (entry points) but is not delivered to customers Major share of loss energy is losses in wires and transformers Approx. 4 % of total energy (which is fed into the network) is lost 10
Elenia and Smart Grid today Customers have smart (AMR) meters and billing based on electricity consumption Customer-specific online reporting service Smart meters used to monitor low voltage network Automated outage information services in case of power outages Automated fault location, isolation and power restoration functionality to shorten outages 3D helicopter inspections in network maintenance Customer Elenia Customer service Partners 11
