Agenda Introduction Integrated Monitoring Application INTEGRIS Communication Architecture Conclusion and outlook This information was prepared by A2A and it is not to be relied on by any 3rd party without A2A s prior written consent. 2
EE distributionscenario 1. Diffusion of DG from renewable sources. More difficult and costly to manage the distribution grid 2. Increasing targets of quality of service measured in terms of number and length of outages affecting final customers (both in MV and LV). Directly related to DSO remuneration Whatdo weneedtodo tocopewiththesetrends? This information was prepared by A2A and it is not to be relied on by any 3rd party without A2A s prior written consent. 3
Howtoimprovethe QoS Simple rules to improve the QoS and the efficiency of the distribution are: Identify the less reliable assets of the grid(lines, transformers, etc.) Real-time management standpoint: change the network configuration: toreducetheloadofthecriticalcomponents tomovetheloadwherethelossesarelower Planning standpoint: pinpoint investments where are really needed Detecting in real-time the presence and the location of a fault to restore the service as soon as possible, e.g.: reconfigure the grid to minimize the no. of disconnected customers sendaworkforcetofixtheproblem Keep under control each node of the grid (transformer stations, point of energy delivery at customers home, distributed generation) implementing what can be called a real-time integrated monitoring application. Areweabletodothatnowwiththepresenttechnology? This information was prepared by A2A and it is not to be relied on by any 3rd party without A2A s prior written consent. 4
Today s distributiongridmanagement Managed with a centralized model from the control center: SCADA: receives measures and alarms from HV/MV substation allow the sending of commands to circuit breakers and disconnectors to alter the topology of the MV grid,e.g.incaseoffault Automatic Meter Reading: used for commercial purposes only(crm, billing, etc.) Little information on MV-LV side of the grid because: get more info. => a widespread communication handle more info. => a less centralized approach The answer to the previous question in NO. Enhance the ICT level of the distribution grid This information was prepared by A2A and it is not to be relied on by any 3rd party without A2A s prior written consent. 5
Project Summary INTEGRIS: INTelligent Electrical GRId Sensor communications THEME: ICT-Energy Grant no The goal of the INTEGRIS project is the design and the test of an ICT architecture enabling the Smart Grids that is: 1. heterogeneous, i.e. integrating multiple communication technologies (BPL, wireless), 2. distributed, i.e. enabling the distribution of intelligence across the network, 3. open, i.e. underpinned by nonproprietary standards (e.g. IEC 61850, IEC 62056, SNMP ) This information was prepared by A2A and it is not to be relied on by any 3rd party without A2A s prior written consent. 6
Agenda Introduction Integrated Monitoring Application INTEGRIS Communication Architecture Conclusion and outlook This information was prepared by A2A and it is not to be relied on by any 3rd party without A2A s prior written consent. 7
IntegratedMonitoring The amount of data to handle will increase exponentially and some procedure to optimize the data flow should be considered Measures are stored in a DB distributed all along the grid nodes(ss,psandcc) Information is processed close to whereitisstored Only aggregated values and alarms are brought back to higher levelofthegrid This information was prepared by A2A and it is not to be relied on by any 3rd party without A2A s prior written consent. 8
IntegratedMonitoring The benefit of an integrated grid management will be exploited only if it makes reference to open standards beyond SAS all the electrical domain (DLMS/COSEM) metering application DLMS/COSEM converter is needed at SS level where data from different domains are merged This information was prepared by A2A and it is not to be relied on by any 3rd party without A2A s prior written consent. 9
Furtherremarks Measures have to be associated with the grid topology to take the right snapshotofitsstatusatacertaintime. Present networkisdescribedonlyinthecc(hv/mvonly) INTEGRIS DBsatPS/SSlevelcontaintheinfo.onapartofthetopology Issue! MV time-variant topology: the hierachical relation between PS-SS changes when the network is reconfigured, e.g. to restore the service This information was prepared by A2A and it is not to be relied on by any 3rd party without A2A s prior written consent. 10
Furtherremarks What real-time means in the network monitoring application? real-times = time step suited for a specific purpose Present MeasuresfromPSequipmentsaregoteach30s 60s SSandcustomersmeasuresarenotusedatall INTEGRIS This information was prepared by A2A and it is not to be relied on by any 3rd party without A2A s prior written consent. 11
