6 What are some key trends?* The world of work is increasingly collaborative, driving the way that student projects are structured. 8 Some questions (longer term) To what extent will bricks and mortar buildings continue to be required? Governments, students and parents will see savings in on-line education. If part or most of a class happens on-line, schools will need fewer classrooms but require More connectivity Longer operating hours (24/7) Different arrangements with faculty Increase in course credit for prior learning. 9 How might the role of the teacher change? Guide on the side Create, organize and moderate courses Serve more as a resource person, mentor and coach Member of a PLN (personal learning network: the entire collection of people with whom you engage and exchange information, usually online) 9
