1 NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY: MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS Thank you for your interest in the National Honor Society, one of the nation s most prestigious academic honors. To join, students must meet several criteria. While a student may satisfy some membership requirements, it is not a guarantee of selection into the organization. Please review the information below before submitting your application. 1. To be considered for membership in National Honor Society, a student must: o Be a junior or second semester sophomore when applying. o Have a commitment to the principles of scholarship, service, character, and leadership. o o o o A student s commitment to all of these principles is measured through academic and community service record, faculty character ratings, and personal writing samples. A student should not apply to the National Honor Society simply to reflect membership on a college application. Have a permanent record clear of disciplinary actions. Have accumulated 60 hours of documented community service since entering high school. Have attended Wake Early College of Health & Sciences for at least one semester. Have a minimum 3.10 cumulative un-weighted grade point average in high school. 2. Please either TYPE or neatly print your application in black ink. Neatness facilitates a speedier evaluation of your application. Paperclip the pages together, in order and DO NOT STAPLE! When the application is complete, you may remove the cover sheet. An incomplete application will be scored accordingly and could affect your future as a NHS member. 3. Upon notification of acceptance in the National Honor Society, a new member induction fee of $15.00 is due. All dues may be paid with cash or personal check made out to WECHS. This fee covers the cost of the certificate and the induction ceremony. 4. Please submit your membership application to Mrs. Yde in the main office by Friday, February 27 2:30pm. Any applications received after this date will NOT be considered. Keep in mind that some parts of the application require signatures, so allow plenty of time for completion. 5. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to Ms. Farrow at rfarrow@wcpss.net.
