FNavidad: good afternoon fsuchat(fsustaff_catherine): Welocme FNavidad Message FNavidad: thx...major storming here. power keeps going on and off, so I hope to stay connected. fsuchat(fsustaff_catherine): Good luck witht he storm. If you do lose connection the chat transcript will be posted on family.fsu.edu fsuchat(fsustaff_catherine): Feel free to ask any questions you many have as they relate to student financial services & financial aid FNavidad: ok thanks. have never done a chat room but i am hoping to get some info as I am confused about some things. fsuchat(fsustaff_catherine): We encourage you to share those topics so we can best address them FNavidad: ok, one question I have: What happens to Bright Futures Money or my student has Florida Prepaid for tuition & dorm & fees? Does it get applied anywhere else and how? FNavidad: *if not or dsb13f: Where can I find information on applicable scholarships for an out of state student? fsuchat(fsustaff_catherine): Our folks from SFS can help answer that one fsuchat(fsustaff_catherine): Wheata: How do we get prepaid Welcome college all linked who have to FSU? just Also joined my us son is getting an AICE diploma so the bright future amount is incorrect, do I need to contact someone so they know he is receiving this? We were told by his high school counselor they do not get the AICE diploma to mid august Italy: fsuchat(fsu_sfs_denard): If my stufent has just received Greetings his again IB diploma and I am confimation here behalf is he of eligible Student for Financial any scholarships? Services. Great questionflorida Prepaid and Bright Futures both pay per credit hour. At the beginning of the semester, Student Financial Services bills your Florida Prepaid Account for the number of credit hours in which you are enrolled. At the same time, Financial Aid notifies Bright Futures of the number of credit hours in which you are enrolled. Both agencies make their payments according to the number of credit hours that Florida State University reports. The University receives the full amount of both payments, applies the funds to owed amounts and releases additional money to the s fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): There is nothing specific to out of state students however financial aid website has some links to to some and Google is always a good search help for those also lbyra: my son accepted the terms and conditions of the Stafford loan, will those monies be appearing in his Sun account? fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): With tthe Ib diploma eligibilty for merit based scholarships is determined by admissions fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): also when you apply for fafsa it automatically applies you for our scholarships fsuchat(fsu_sfs_denard): *we will release the additional money to the student FNavidad and after paying any additional expenses using the left over money like housing, dining, bookstore charges, or health insurance cjbos06: Does bright Futures transfer 2 times a year one for fall and 1 for spring because the students can take a different amount of credits? fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): Ibyra- Has the student their Loan entrance counceling and Master promissary note? lbyra: yes - he just completed those 2 days back fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): Next question is is the student enrolled now and in 6 or more credit hours Wheata: When is the last day you can accept loans? lbyra: yes - he is enrolled for the fall semester - 12 credits Italy: Would I already know if FASFA is going to offer any money? I think they think we make too much. Not sure how that works fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): you have until the end of the current semester to accept all loans.- Wheata dsb13f: Is there some type of advisor a sudent can be assigned to directly help find scholarship money?
fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): Ibyra- Aid will disburse the second week of classes FNavidad: Denard, thank you. Is my student then required to have a Suntrust account? She has a Bank of America account now which is much more convenient for her dad & I to transfer money into so I'd like to not have to add another bank. Italy: So if aid is dispersed the 2nd wk of classes, would we already know if fasfa is offering anything? lbyra: just in time for the fall payment? and will that be placed in his Sun account, check, or other? fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): Italy- once you apply to the Fafsa it lets us know what federal aid you are eligible for. That aid will post on the my.fsu.edu account fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): you can check your my.fsu.edu account or contact our office Italy: ok so if there is nothing there now, then he gets nothing. Correct? However, please remember that Bright Futures does not pay over the summer. Inregards to the Suntrust account question I am pleased to announce that as of , beginning this Summer, thatstudent Financial Services will issue refunds by direct deposit to the domestic bank of your choice. fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): Ibyra- if you do not accept the loans before the disbursement a tuition deferment can be offered. lbyra: we have accepted the loans fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): Italy- what is your student fsu id lbyra: i just want to be sure they show up in the Suntrust account and that we can make payments to the school from the Suntrust account Italy:****** vhackmann: I think our income is too high for any financial aid so haven't applied - is it too late? fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): Give me a minute to look his info up fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): vhackmann- No it is not to late without the fafsa federal aid is not available Wheata: How do you link prepaid to your fsu acct for payment fsuchat(fsu_sfs_denard): and if I may add what Natasha has previously Most students do not need deferments because financial aid is processed at the end of the drop/add week; this is before fees are due. If for some reason your aid has not paid your tuition, theoffice of Financial Aidwill attempt to put an automatic financial aid deferment on your account. Either way, students are recommended to check their status on their"account Statement" fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): He is being offered federal unsubsidized loan as his award. fsuchat(fsu_sfs_denard): FNavidad: Denard: yes, is there for awesome summer question... now. I am aware that it is only for fall & spring. I am not sure what you mean be "refunds". I just want to be clear...i am wondering what happens to the Bright Futures money? Does it get applied to things like meal plan and books? Or can it be? OR does it get dropped into my students bank account after the Italy: Prepaid I have has to paid tell the you tuition, I'm frustrated dorm & with fees? not getting any scholarships for *******. He does get quite a bit of classes bumped due to IB and AP, but I was hoping for some free money due to his academics. I know a lot of other people who's kids are getting money by just attending a college. Italy: Ok so this is still a loan that he must pay back? correct? fsuchat(fsu pampnina: My Staff_NaTasha): daughter's financial yes and monies interest from starts bright to accrue future 30 can days already after be student seen in starts the financial school portion of her FSU account. She also has a Florida Prepaid Account of which I can see a housing deposit was appliedfrom it (she has a local fee, one year dorm and four years tuition plans). She has registered for fall classes and I would have expected to see a posting as well of a credit from her Florida Prepaid Account but we have not. Can you tell me when we would expect to see some indication of that in her account being applied to housing, tuition, etc.? fsuchat(fsu_sfs_denard): after loan is you disbursed need to do is make sure that your social security number on your Florida Prepaid card matches the one you used to enroll at FSU and the rest is done automatically! There is no need to give anyone at the university your Florida Prepaid card. in order to link the account because we are automatically linked into the Florida Prepaid System at the university Italy: Is there any way to say to FSU, "Hey my kid has IB and great grades/gpa, can you offer him any free money?" Wheata: Does that show up in the student account
conceptually speaking the combination of Florida Prepaid and Bright Futures will cover 100% of tuition and fees leaving an excess of anywhere from that will be applied towards housing charges if they have not yet been paid. lbyra: Can tuition be paid directly from the SunTrust accounts? fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): you can contact admissions however your fafsa application was your application ALL federal aid. Admissions handles merit based awards Italy: ok. I'll check into that. Does ****** have to do anything further to accept the loans offered? might become eligible for a refund through any number of situations, including:when you receive financial aid in excess of your FSU bill ****** Florida will need Prepaid to complete billing will the be Loan reflected entrance on youraccount counseling and Statement Master Promissory fsuchat(fsu_sfs_denard): Note on by the end of the drop/add period during the first week of the term, so your outstanding balance after that time will only reflect the portion of fees not covered by Florida Prepaid if the student doesnot have financial aid or Bright Futures to cover the difference. Jillhats: Besides loans are you also offered scholarship or grant money through fafsa? Italy: ok thank you. When do I apply for loans? Is there a max offered or can I get it for the balance? Wheata: swartz.james@gmail.com: Thank you denard, Hello very everyone. helpful Just a quick question about payments. My daughter is an out of state student and other than the Stafford Loans, she does not qualify for any other programs. When it comes time for payment for the Fall semester can the payment be made over the course of a few months or is payment due in full when the account is billed? fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): According to FASFA you have already been offered the max per semester... Italy: only for ****** to accept loans or for me too? I thought I could get loans through fsu as well? Jillhats: fsuchat(fsu_sfs_denard): My son is out of too and yes he if you was are only self offered pay meaning a Stafford you Loan. are paying tuition out of pocket then yes you can pay using your Suntrust account online or if you have setup an account through the Suntrust branch linking your FSU card then that is the only card we accept within the office if you are avoiding the onlineconvenience fee.great question Ibyra and did this help to answer your question? fsuchat(fsu Yes. All federal grants and aid are processed through FASFA cjbos06: Self payers do you accept a check in the office? that is a beautiful question which I would love to address to everyone as a whole inregards to payment plans which we call an "installment contract" FNavidad: fsuchat(fsu Thank Staff_NaTasha): you.i am clear Yes for you now. have I think the Parent there Plus will be option. a learning Please curve refer as to the our monies webite apply. for terms and conditions... pampnina: My daughter's financial monies from bright future can already be seen in the financial portion of her FSU account. She also has a Florida Prepaid Account of which I can see a housing deposit was appliedfrom it (she has a local fee, one year dorm and four years tuition plans). She has registered for fall classes and I would have expected to see a posting as well of a credit from her Florida Prepaid Account but we have not. Can you tell me when we would expect to fsuchat(fsu_sfs_denard): see some indication of that FNavidad in her account agreed being and applied the great to thing housing, is the tuition, process etc.? is a mirror image of what happens in the Spring form the fall Italy: Sorry, I missed that...yes we are maxed or i can get loans through the parent plus option? fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): Additional money through parent plus- yes fsuchat(fsu_sfs_denard): and cjbos06 yes you can pay in the form of cash, check, FSU Card, or money order within our office Mon- Fri between the hours of 8:30am- 4:30pm swartz.james@gmail.com: Thanks FSU_SFS_Denard, that's the word I was trying to think of: installment contract. Italy: ok good. I will go to that website. Will you please tell me if there are any deadlines coming up immediately or do i have time? fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): No I do not see that ****** has been selected for any verification. otcarlene: My son has florida prepaid. However itis not notedin his FSU acct. I can seen the financial award for bright futures and grant and Stafford loan. denisleclair: Could I have the mailing address to send a check?
fsuchat(fsu_sfs_denard): The Installment Contract is the only payment plan for tuition. For a $10.00 fee this plan allows you to divide your tuition obligation into two equal payments (the $10 fee is due with the 2nd payment). Please note: The first half of your tuition must be paid for before we can set up the Installment Contract. This means that if you are going to rely on Financial Aid to pay for your first payment, you must wait until Financial Aid disburses before you can request the Installment Contract. Additionally, if Financial Aid only pays a portion of it, you must pay the rest of the first half out of pocket, or entirely out of pocket if you do not receive Financial Aid. All of this must be done by the Tuition Deadline Italy: fsuchat(fsu_sfs_denard): What does that mean The verification? Installment Contract is only available during the Fall and Spring terms. The first portion is due by the Tuition Deadline, and the second payment is going to be the 1st or 2nd Friday of the following month. To find out the exact dates, you may visit our website at sfs.fsu.edu, or you can view this in your Student Center (The deadline for your tuition will be deferred after the Installment Contract has been placed on the account). yes our mailing address isa1500 University CenterTallahassee, FL fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): If selected by the Federal Gov the student would have to submit additional information. You may refer to our website for additional information on being selected.. vhackmann: Can fees be paid online via credit card - assuming the normal convenience fee? fsuchat(fsu_sfs_denard): make the check payable to Florida State University and please include the students fsu id and what you are paying for on the memo line. May I suggest sending the check in a traceable manner as we cannot account for the mail time if the receipt of the payment is delayed due to mail time swartz.james@gmail.com: Thanks FSU_SFS_Denard, your explanation was very helpful. denisleclair: Thank you Denard. Is the isa1500 a typo? fsuchat(fsu_sfs_denard): Vhackmann and yes you pay fees online using a credit card and there will be assessed a onetime non refundable convenience fee otcarlene: If florida prepaid is not stated on the fsu acct do I need to followup with someone? no it is not a typo just seemingly typing a little too fast there and forgetting to hit the space bar thanks for catching that so here it is again (A1500 University Center, Tallahassee,Fl 32306) Italy: Ok I guess I should let you know that this is Chinese to me. I don't know what you're talking about. Will you please pampnina: explain this otcarlene to me like and I'ma I have kindergartener? a similar inquiry- In What does my case that the mean following "if selected is our by circumstances- My the fed gov't" for daughter's what??? financial monies from bright future can already be seen in the financial portion of her FSU account. She also has a Florida Prepaid Account of which I can see a housing deposit was appliedfrom it (she has a local fee, one year dorm and four years tuition plans). She has registered for fall classes and I would have expected to see a posting as well of a credit from her Florida Prepaid Account but we have not. Can you tell me when we would expect to see some indication of that in her account being applied to housing, tuition, etc.? cjbos06: Is there a separate fee for every transaction dorm, meal plan, tuition, books etc. fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): Please give our office a call at you guys are asking the best questions ever and now just to probe alittle more to make sure we give you the best answer to your question. May I ask is what semester will your student be attending? otcarlene: fall 2014 Italy: ok good idea. Thanks for all your help. I'll call in shortly. I the only place to apply for additional scholarships through FSU on the admissions page? because tuition for the upcoming academic year is not set as of yet you will not see the Florida Prepaid Billing in the account until the First week of classes. fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): yes i advise you to call them also! fsuchat(fsu_sfs_denard): We are hoping to have the tuition rates out and posted by the first week of August for you to view on your student's account as long as they have already enrolled for Fall classes otcarlene: Oh okay... Another question We are trying to set a budget for our expenses for coming year, the monies offered in the fsu acct are final and are effective Fall 2014and Spring Any chance for any changes? Italy: Ok I will. Thank you again. fsuchat(fsustaff_tameka): Awards are always subject to change.
I am pleased to announce that with our new and improved system you can select the charges that you would like to pay for but there is not a separate fee for each charge. The convenience fee is assessed simply for each online transaction so may I suggest that if you are paying for more than one fee/charge be sure to select them all at once so that you are only assessed one convenience for that transaction. fsuchat(fsustaff_tameka): Please contact the Office of Financial aid to specific review of your student's file. otcarlene: Thank you cjbos06: FSU_SFS_Denard thank you that is helpful pampnina: what awards are you referring to tameka? fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): No problem have a great day!! fsuchat(fsustaff_tameka): The answer was directed swartz.james@gmail.com, FNavidad and everyone is welcome you because this group is making our job so much easier by asking great questions that everyone will probably benefit from. pampnina: So in regards to my question then I will not see anything posted from Florida Prepaid at all until the first week of classes? FNavidad: thanks for all the help. how do i get a transcript of this? exactly and if you do not at the time then you can contact our office, Student Financial Services, via cjbos06: Does bright Futures transfer 2 times a year one for fall and 1 for spring because the students can take a different amount of credits? or do you get 1 total transmission for the year? pampnina: Thanks Denard! fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): are you asking if it pays during fall and soring or at one time? fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): *spring cjbos06: yes fsuchat(fsu_sfs_denard): yes Bright you futures are welcome pays during and the for fall further and then assistance during any the representative spring. when you call should be more than willing, ready, and able to assist with all your Florida Prepaid inquires and the awesome thing about our University is that we have a Florida Prepaid Specialist to assist with the more complex situations her name is Michelle Gaston and she can be reached via fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): according to how many hours you take cjbos06: ok thank you fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): and what level you have pampnina: Thanks for that additional information Denard. otcarlene: This was FANTASTIC... Kudos to all of you for setting this up Have a great day. swartz.james@gmail.com: THANKS everyone, Goodbye. fsuchat(fsu_sfs_denard): I failed to mention that our entire customer service staff contact information is available via our website sfs.fsu.edu and Goodbye everyone fsuchat(fsu Staff_NaTasha): Thanks for your time and we can be contacted between the hours of 8:30-5:00. in the stadium building A 4th floor or at fsuchat(fsustaff_catherine): We have 5 minutes remaining in today's chat, so if anyone has a last minute question please ask it at this time astoneci: Only one question: Would you say all that again? ;) a transcript can be retrieve from New Students and family website at the conclusion of the chat. fsuchat(fsustaff_catherine): Thank you everyone for a great chat!
